Some days, the news just simply falls into your lap.
Let's take a closer look at this need for salary reductions among the rank and file inside of Anderson County. If you care to read the headlines or dig into the local political blogs, you will see where the belief is that we are in dire times and that drastic measures must be taken to address what is or is not happening.
On other consistent theme is "tightening the belt." We must all learn to do with less in order to survive. Ok - sure, I get that. I understand the concept of Rugged Individualism and agree with it. Where I have my issue is this:
HYPOCRISY
Let's walk through this and ask some reasonable questions:
1.) Why is Anderson County STILL advertising job openings (as of January 25th) if we are truly in a dire state? Would we not do as is done in the private sector: Close the open job requisitions and defund those un-hired/non-filled positions? It appears that the right hand knows not what the left hand is doing.
2.) It would appear that "congrats" are in order for one Mr. Dan Harvell. Becoming the Marketing & Promotions Director for the Anderson Civic Center certainly has to be one of the biggest ironies of his adult life. From Mr. Harvell's position as the former head of the now defunct Anderson County Taxpayer's Association, Mr. Harvell championed smaller government, more responsible government, and questioned the need of the Civic Center on more than one occasion.
Now he is the Duke of Duplicity? The Maven of Marketing? The Prince of Promotions? Makes me wonder about the existing staff with existing duties . . .
. . . oh . . . and it makes me wonder when Sally Struthers started offered a "marketing and promotions certificate."
Keeping all of that in mind, as though these actions were not galling enough, you have local individuals that take to the airways and call ... wait for it ... a sitting judge ... "a weenie."
Really? Are you 5 or 75? No, don't bother answering that as I know the answer all ready.

As the crowd of UFO abductees is so keen on nonsensical nicknames and kindergarten tactics, I want to play along. I'll gladly add my own list of new monikers for this (unsolicited) position:
1) A better working title for him may be the His Honor of Hypocrisy. I see he's definitely taking lessons from his fake-"ACTA" playbook ( whats with these characters abducting respectable organizations' names anyways?)
2) Or, maybe the Duke of Deceit, for getting county-paid training for this (unadvertised) job and not declaring so.
3) How about the Courtesan of Incorrigibility?
4) The Purveyor of Pompousness?
5) The Mayor of Meaninglessness?
The "list" is endless...
Anyways, as for those whom have taken a few potshots at JUDGES on their radio show as of late, I really wonder how well those little barbs will play when those same judges hear those infamous (yet totally ludacris) cases coming before them "soon"?
While we're discussion the "possible" creation of another NEW and totally unadvertised job ( during such dire and financially hand-wrenching times) in the vein of Webmaster, ADMINISTRATOR OF THE MONTH, former ( unlicensed) investigators and unjustifiable Auditors doing Audits:
Would this position be in addition to the already TWO heads running the Civic Center? Does three stooges make a better comedic opera than two?
How much does this new slot (machine) pay anyways?
Is this funded by Accommodations monies, or out of the general fund? Either way, we were told there was no moolah!
Is this a position which the only job prerequisite is being a paparazzi? Dont recall the educational or employment credentials being listed ( OH, thats right, there were no advertised employment conditions announced!).
Does one have to be an exclusive member of "ACTA" to get these juicy appointments nowadays?
Would this effectively silence the Duke from his daily diatribe on the radio, and the bi-weekly spiels about saving taxpayer money while taking a taxpayer funded tough-job?
Inquiring minds wanna know.....
What has happened to the Anderson County Taxpayers Association now that Dan Harvell is "supping at the though."

Now, given the "scrutiny" the SC Employment Security Commission is currently under, what w/ the announcement of that audit report today that blasted them for incorrectly paying benefits to those that were terminated, if Moore-on left Fluor, "involuntarily", that $10,000/year Councilman pay might be his only gig. Bet he won't be volunteering to pay his own expenses to the beach for the boondoggle this year, huh?
Did moore even pay? I heard he had made a big public deal about paying is own expenses...then welshed on the deal and never wrote a check...
Assuming that this is true.....Mark...shouldn't Harvell be the first county employee fired? Last hired..first hired? Yo do still advocate for mass firings, right?

Now in this reply (and I realize, SSHM made the comment about Harvell being hired, not P-N, so don't get your panties all wadded up your crotch about that again, or the bra strap caught in hairs on your back).....after the word hired, you wouldn't have happened to have left out the word "yet"? Or, would a more accurate reply have been, as a result of public outcry, Dan Harvell has not been hired yet, or will not be hired as a result of it? BTW, next time you see Moore-on, tell we send along our "heartfelt" congratulations, if it was his choice to retire and quit driving to Greenville from Starr every day?
