An idea...
Certain detractors say that ATZ is simply a forum for whiners. I know many of you personally, and I know about the good work that you do for your community. I had a couple of other ideas though. I thought we could skip a blog lunch and all meet for a day to do something at Meals on Wheels or Haven of Rest or Anderson County Humane Society or Richard Campbell Vets Home or something else non-partisan. If no one wants to risk exposing their identities, then another option is that we could use Donorschoose.org or something like Heifer Internal.org to do a joint donation a couple of times a year. We could each pledge 5 bucks and probably buy something cool for a local public school classroom or some chickens for a starving family. There is probably something like that for our men and women overseas that sends them care packages or something.
I was thinking about how we've formed a little community here, and I think we could use that to someone elses advantage.
What do ya think?
I think it sounds like a good idea, and very thoughtful.
As I've said before, procrastination is my middle name. I have said for months I need to volunteer and still haven't. What I would like to do is meals on wheels, but find some elderly that could care for a cat or dog (if the senior citizen is mobile). When food is delivered the animal could be bathed or litter box cleaned. I would initially pay for the animal to be spayed or neutered. Like you IBV I am always thinking of ways to relieve some of the current problems, but implimentation isn't always as easy as it seems like it should be. But I would like the aid to be local and know exactly how the money is being spent.
Ok why is this printing big?(Now it's normal sized - go figure.)

IB, my mom and dad deliver for meals on wheels, I help them as often as I can. If others out there have never experienced the joy that comes from helping with this program I highly suggest that you TRY IT YOU"LL LIKE IT!

This sounds like a good idea!
I'd love to volunteer at the Animal Shelter.. Volunteering at the nursing home or meals on wheels wouldnt be a bad idea either. Id love to do something to help the schools in our area that are suffering as well.
Haven of Rest, Anderson Interfaith Ministries and the Salvation Army can use volunteers.
I helped at those when I lived in Anderson. Kids can often use help with school work in the afternoons at the Boy & Girls Club when School is in session. AIM damned near killed an old fellow hauling a washer and dryer from one house into a trailer some years back. I was the little old guy. The washer was huge, the porch was small -- the need was great! Satisfaction from doing it was worth every grunt and pain. I'd try it again, though. I recommend it.
