Economic Development

I received a poll today from the York County area in reference to horses and Economic Development. The poll is to contact "various equestrian organizations to assess their interest in potentially hosting a state, regional and/or national show, training camp or other event type at the proposed center". That poll lead me to go fishing around for some other county Economic Development web sites. I found this web site and am impressed with the data available. (Myrtle Beach has the AHA annual beach ride each year that promotes the industry and brings in a lot of riders from all over.)

I believe Anderson County might benefit by adding some of the relevant information about the county to their web site to include vacant and available industrial buildings, demographic information, etc.

I posted on the Anderson Animal topic that Aiken County recently partnered with USC-Aiken to complete a survey of the equine industry in that county. Aiken's intent is to use their current assets to build on this industry and promote growth.

I hope everyone had a wonderful and harmonious holiday week.

Happy New Year,
Nicole

It is a lot more detailed than what Anderson has up on the www. Perhaps someone from Economic Development should look at this and get some ideas of helpful information to have instantly available for potential businesses looking to relocate or expand?

A committee to assist in Economic Development would bring in more ideas - the more diverse the members, the more ideas for types of development. The committee could be further segregated into fields, such as equine, golf or sports, etc.

Exactly what Anderson needs: another committee to decide how to spend far too few tax dollars for the elitists' use.  Any idea how many committees exist already for anderson's "development"?  Over a dozen and some are paid positions! Want ideas, read the blogs, they're FREE.

Hmm, I suggest a special meeting to convene current members of the committee to select a new committee to investigate the current committees' progress on previous meetings of these committees.

I move to put Wyatt's suggestion into committee for further study before it goes to the committee for committee action by the appropriate committee. Do I hear a second?

Can I second my own suggestion?  Maybe the appointment of members for the position of associate investigator of investigating past investigations of committee actions be made first.  THEN we can forward that action to the community action committee chairman for selection of possible approval or denial to forward further. Lets meet in special session before the next meeting is held.

Gawd, we sound like Council!

I don't know about that, Wyatt. If we get it too complicated, we'll have to form an Ad Hoc committee to coordinate with the Department of Redundancy Department before we move forward with actually not doing anything. Otherwise, somebody may think we're making progress, and that just wouldn't do given the current political climate in Anderson County.

PLUS, we'd actually have to announce the PURPOSE of any special meetings we call, as required by law ... or not, considering that nobody seems to have seen any agenda for the one that's been called for Friday. Hey, it's only the law. No reason to let that stand in the way of County Council's Sherman-esque "March through the South." Laughing

Laughing  As long as we don't get more than four of us in the same room, we be KEWL !!!Wink

By now, everyone knows there is no real "progress", just the illusion of such a pipe dream.

Well I have made some calls and found out that this meeting on Friday is suppose to be a council meeting , but some really think its a KKK meeting, seeing as Michael Cunningham & Gracie Floyd are the topics for the special meeting.. As far as this new council is concerned they are only in office to settle grudges...

More of a play on words, Republikin. An insult, perhaps. An attack, no. I've met Angel. She'll fire back when she quits laughing. Wink

The simple suggestion would be for the New Council to hire the old Council to teach them Roberts Rule and how to properly carry on a meeting. It could be the Silvin learning center for new council members.

Never mind. give then a couple of years they will figgure it out!

They may well figure it out in a couple of years A-v but what will happen to Anderson County in the interim.  I am constantly amazed at the three newly elected council members and the two left overs who constitute the new Gang of Five.  I've never seen any other politician break as many campaign promises in as short a time as these five have.  As they meet behind close doors, in secret, carrying out Cindy Wilson's personal vendetta  and all the while crying for open honest government.  We can only hope some of them are fast learners.

Does anyone know if the new three attended any training sessions offered by the Association of Counties?

Forget Robert's Rules A-v;  let's hope they come to understand the law and will carry it out.

Besides meeting in "executive session" which is needed to discuss contracts and personnel matters, what other campaign promises were broken?

These guys have only been sworn in office for 12 days! Don't you think they may need to discuss sensitive items out of the public eye? They last council concocted a buyout, and new contract without discussion.

I really would like to know what other campaign promises were broken.

So all of the candidates only campaigned on one issue?

I can't see where they haven't been open and honest. Can you give specifics? I would like to know specifics.

As for open and honest. I know some of the council members have been on the radio answering questions. I don't remember Bill, Larry or Michael doing that.

How much open can you be?
