An interesting question! Who will be the new Ringmaster of the Circus come January? Will it be Bob Waldrep or Cindy Wilson??? I don`t think that one of the newbees would be chosen. Any ideas????? I still want a cash bar down there for the Circus!!!
Who will be the new Ringmaster/Chairman of The Anderson County Council/Circus in January???????
Anderson Retro,
My choice for County Council Chairman would be District 4 Councilman Elect Tom Allen. Although he lacks Council experience, he is a remarkably honest and honorable man. In addition, he is not blinded by any ideology, left or right. He seems objective, fair, and pragmatic. He clearly wants to move Anderson County forward, while making government more open and transparent.
My choice would be the noted philosopher Schlomo Gerkenstein. His turn ons are: Puppies, long walks on the beach, and happy times.
His turn offs are: Mean people, war, and body odor.Schlomo thinks everyone should be friends, and get along!! Go Schlomo!!
Of the new folks, I know Tom Allen & Eddie Moore. Either of them would be honorable choices. This is not to in any way diminish respect for Mr. Dunn- I just don't know him personally.
Art, I think that Tom Allen would be a great choice. Somebody said Eddie Moore. I don`t know him, he may be a very good man. However, I do know that Eddie Moore was hanging around WAIM-AM 1230 alot on the air. Nothing against the law about that, but one may question him hanging around such a cartoonish operation. I wonder what Eddie Moore, Tom Allen and the other new guy has to say about the embarassing acts of the WAIM-AM Magical Mystery Bus Group??? They may question why Rick Driver took all of these poor older folks down to Columbia in a broken down old bus without even having an appointment with the govenor. I digress, once again I agree with Art`s choice in Tom Allen. We need a good man like this as Ringmaster of the Circus!!!!!!!!!!
Queen, I agree. I have met both of them at council meetings and they seem to be concerned about moving forward with an open government and eliminating the bickering that has been so pervasive during a lot of meetings. Lets face it they will need all the time they can get to try to get this county back into a degree of equilibrium and wipe out its title of "laughing stock" throughout the rest of the state. They will need at least two years of hard work to try and get this done. They are walking into a real mess.
. I also have to always support a fellow buckeye(plus he likes plants). The pressure is on Bob Waldrep and Cindy Wilson to act alot more professional than they have been. They and the others have come off as Cartoon characters and yes, the state of S.C. is looking at Anderson as a laughing stock. Between all of this silly garbage that has been going on and WAIM-AM 1230 driving a broken down 1962 Greyhound Bus to see the Governor with a prior appointment, Anderson has been looking very much like Hooterville from "Green Acres".
He will be infinately better than Michael Thompson or Gracie Floyd. I am having a difficult time trying to figure out who was the worst chairman. Since Thompson is so recent, I will go with him, but Gracie has to be a very, very close second.
He should have asked me how to handle this political mess. Instead, he must have asked SSHM.

One thing about the "Driver Crowd" is they were angry over the way the Nov. 18th meeting was conducted, they were angry about what was done and they have done their best to see that if any of it was illegal or improper, it was brought to the attention of the people who could do something about it. They stand behind their beliefs. That, whether you agree with them or not is admirable. Most everyone else just gripes.

Reminds me of a dog that keeps digging at the base of an electric fence. The dumb dog get shocked, yet goes back to digging again, only to - SUPRISE - get shocked AGAIN.
Admirable? No - that's just a dumb dog.

Does anyone else find it ironic that a group of individuals that are anti-government and anti-growth are reveling in the fact that they will RUN government in January of 2009? In charge of something you oppose ... isn't it ironic?
As for Eddie Snore getting the chairmanship, know this: Mr. "I've yet to take my seat on Council, but have more soundbites and quotes in the paper than SITTING members of Council" does not impress - AT ALL. In fact, having him as your chairman is akin to forcing all of the members of Council to wear albatrosses around their necks.
Alba-what? Go read Coleridge's poem and understand the significance of that metaphor. That is, unless you are too busy being "admirable" and "digging at electric fences."

Must be a lab.
These folk are not neither anti-government or anti-growth. That's foolish. They feel government should represent the people it is supposed to serve (a novel idea for Anderson and apparently you) and that growth should be planned.

Funny, I don't ever remember being anti-government or anti-growth. My belief's are quite the contrary. I do beleive in limited government, lower taxes and controlled growth. Government should work for the people, not the people work for the government. It certainly isn't that way in anderson County.
Maybe there is a reason that most of the outgoing council members are not getting the "sound-bites". They are has beens. McAbee, Thompson and Greer, are finished, done, kaput. Who cares who got second place? Who wants to be around a loser? Not me.
So, SSHM who do you think will be the next chairman? That was the questioned poised. You just didn't answer.
Oh yeah, trivia question for everyone. Who ran for county council chairman the first night they sat in the seat and got beat by the "ONLY" democrat on the council?
Answer below:
Willie Horton McABee! Lost every time he ran for Chairman. And got beat by Gracie Floyd during the first meeting of Council in January 2006. The electorate of District 4 finally figured him out in 2008 and removed him from office after 4 disappointing years. I believe the vote count was 61-39%.

Actually, SSHM, I've owned a lot of dogs during my lifetime, some of them quite smart and some of them dumber'n a rock. In my experience, I've found that the ones that try to dig UNDER the electric fence are the smart ones. The dumb ones are the ones that keep trying to pee on it.
The most entertaining Chair of the Council would be Queen Gracie Floyd!!!!!! She would be far from the best, but her comments towards other councilmen are always a laugh riot!!!!!!! She always tries to one up on Bob Waldrep, but he has some funny one-liners right back at her!!!!!!

Actually ... the government in Anderson County is quite limited and underfunded when compared to the other 45 counties in the state. For those that continue to whine and complain about "high" taxes in Anderson County, I'd ask that you get both a CLUE and a greater understanding of who pays what and in what amounts.
It's time, as JD would say, to introduce FACTS into a discussion of SUPPOSITION (how dare I, right?).
All of the following has been taken from The SC Association of Counties 2008 County Profiles Report.
Largest General Fund Budgets
Anderson does not even crack the top 10 in this catetorgy. In fact, we sit 14th at $39,564,995. Your top 5 counties are:
Charleston - $140,800,000
Richland - $126,631,519
Horry - $124,622,134
Greenville - $120,232,737
Beaufort - $91,000,000
So one would (or should) logically ask: How does this compare to population?
SC Counties - Largest Populations
Anderson is in the top 10 here; 7th actually.
Greenville - 379,616
Richland - 320,677
Charleston - 309,969
Spartanburg - 253,791
Lexington - 216,014
Horry - 196,629
Anderson - 165,740
So, if you are keeping score at home folks, we rank SEVENTH in general population in the state and come in FOURTEENTH in size of the General Fund (i.e., the money that makes the county go). Let me drive this point home . . .
Per Captia General Fund Budget
This number is derived by figuring the total budget in relation to the county's population - thus determining the dollar amount that each individual represents.
Care to guess where Anderson sits? How about 44th out of 46?
Anderson's Per Capita General Fund Budget .... $239. That's less than the cost of an Xbox 360.
For reference, here are the top 5:
Jasper - $1,102
Fairfield - $784
Beaufort - $752
McCormick - $692
Oconee - $649
Oh ... almost left this gem out ... unlike a lot of other counties, Anderson meets these numbers WITHOUT THE NEED OF A LOCAL OPTION SALES TAX.
All of you have it so good, yet many just seem content to bury their heads in the sand and whine. Look around and get a REAL PICTURE for how things are. Anderson does what she does with 824 full time employees (2005 figure) and with a payroll of $27,341,150. Compare that to our neighbor, Greenville with 1,637 full time employees (2005 figure) and with a payroll of $72,676,691. How about Spartanburg with 1,233 full time employees (2005 figure) and $44,620,609 tied up in payroll.
Government in ANDERSON COUNTY is LIMITED, both in EMPLOYMENT and in FUNDING. That is a FACT.
Now, as for County Council Chairman, I would LOVE to see M. Cindy Wilson, aka the Political Neophyte, aka "If we only had more information," named Chairman for BOTH 2009 AND 2010. Why? People need to see, first-hand, in the spotlight, how she is. The county needs to see who District 7 keeps sending back to council.
You know as well as I do that she will NEVER be Chairman ... EVER. Why is that? Why give the reins over to a rookie when you have a veteran that has never chaired CC sitting there? Answer that . . .
Don't worry ... I won't hold my breath waiting on answers to those questions.

Really? According to this AIM article from June 3:
Anderson County Council unanimously approved the proposed $149 million budget Tuesday night with two amendments.Where would that put us in your lists?

Aren't you the same guy that trotted out one of their other reports to claim that Mr. Preston only made $79,000 a year? Oh, yah, right here, post #10 in this thread: Topic: Raymond MacKay
