Confused, I don't believe I pointed a finger at you or anybody in particular, did I? But over the years, I have engaged in some lively debates over religion, most recently during the battle over the Blue Laws. For cryin' out loud, I don't even read most of what you write, let alone remember it, but your screen name certainly isn't one of the ones I had in mind when I made that statement.

JD, for someone who made such a strong statement you didn't do a very good job of supporting yourself.  Also, if you don't read what I write, it's strange that you always seem to have a comment.  Seems like you always have an excuse for every opinion you have, while often belittling others.  But that's just my opinion.  And like you I love sarcasm.

First, Confused, I didn't say I don't read what you write. I said, "I don't read MOST of what you write."

Second, I could take a couple of hours to go back to posts over the past couple of years and defend myself quite nicely with excerpts from debates over separation of church and state, Blue Laws, prayer in public meetings, and religion on politic. But I really have better things to do at the moment.

And, third, I hope I haven't "belittled" anybody who wasn't "belittling" others. That's called "fighting fire with fire." And, yes, I'm guilty of that. Otherwise, I do have a tendency to be condescending at times (and I have a lot of company on ATZ in that regard), but Mrs. Tippett is working on that problem. She'll fix it eventually, or I'll die from her trying. Wink

I would urge a bit of caution there, Wyatt. If you define "hate" or "hate speech" too far downward, you'll wrap yourself up in your own definition.

I've attended a couple of hundred County Council and Council committee meetings over the years - Pickens County, Greenville County, Oconee County - and I've been there a number of times when they natives were restless, occasionally even as a target or their ire. They were rude. They were juvenile. They were often profane and threatening. But was it hate? I didn't see that, even when I was one of those in their sights.

I'll agree with you that critics of Joey Preston have often gone way too far in Anderson County and turned it into a personal war as much as a political war, Wyatt, but only if you'll agree that critics of Cindy Wilson have done likewise.

Welp JD, once more you determine what you know  about us.  Maybe you HAVE sat in a" few hundred" other meetings, but do you listen?  I ask YOU again, have you sat in on any of the last 4-5 council meetings what-so-ever?  Not sitting in your barkalounger hacking away at the keys, watching it on Access channel.  But actually sat your butt in those nice, cushy and comfortable seats for several hours?  Have you?   Then you'd KNOW what real hatred is.  Or what these freaks who supposedly represent "all of us"  speak in muted tones about short ropes and tall trees, about how Manse Jolly would handle these Lib'rals and "neee-grows" & Yankees.  Then again, maybe you're comfortable with someone sitting across from the room from you, making the "shooting gesture" at you ( or your family).  Maybe you're all good with disruption of a legislative body by hooligans and thugs.

I describe the crowds we've heard for ourselves. I relate the oh-so-watered down version of the racist crap uttered against a council person.   While I also heard similar derrogatory comments about Cindy Wilson, nobody threatened to hang her or "shoot" at her in council or call her a N--ger. I heard similar stuff about "Waterboy" Thompson; about JRP and his wife/kids, about 'turn-coat' Ron Wilson; about others who served the county Administrator ( mostly in a sexual connotation, but.....)  It is just a slew of haters which sit in these meetings and look for reasons to vent their venom.  And you say WYATT has issues. Boy are you off base! WE usually end up leaving, because I don't need to say anything to them which would result in a fist-fight.

Guess your definition of "HATE"  is much different than us Yankees' version.

Quoted for THE TRUTH.

Wyatt - If there is any comfort that can be gleaned from this crowd, it is this: They are OLD. In some instances VERY OLD. I take comfort in knowing that in the human race, most if not ALL of that crowd will finish ahead of us. You can only postpone change for so long.

As much as JD would like to paint a balanced scale between both sides, I'd ask that he looks toward his own group of moderators to correctly gauge the amount of hate and venom that crowd spews. Window dress it all you like, but I'll take the safe bet that Cindy Dribble Inc have the edge in the hate category.

I've been to a bunch of county council meetings and I don't hear much hatred. All I hear is desperation with a county government that refuses to follow the law or listen to the will of the people.

If there is any hatred, the Fab Five and Preston have brought it on themselves.

Lee,

Are you sure you were at an Anderson Country Council Meeting? I have attended two meetings (first and last) and if memory serves me right you were there, At that meeting I was shocked to hear a preacher stand up and speak in a hateful manner and an old guy removed by the Park police. I have not been back but may consider it now that the metal detector is up and running. It may not detect some objects (small knives and lighters) but definitely will detect guns.

No one deserves hatred, especially from supposed Christians. Disagreements can be settled in a civil manner.

I'm not going to "get over it." Why couldn't they just follow proper procedures and the law? They knew they had five votes to do whatever they wanted, so why did everything have to be a big secret. That's the reason so many people resent the county government so much, everything's always kept secret from us ignorant masses lest we try to have a say in anything.

I believe I could prove by the minutes of the Nov. 18th Council Meeting that at least four of the members of council met at least through technological means to come up with the Preston buyout/Cunningham hiring agreement. Also, the code sections that I am alleging they violated were not in regards to the Nov. 18th meeting. Obviously, that was an official meeting, but those members of council violated the law when they had a secret "meeting" before the Nov. 18th meeting.

If the agenda had been posted stating there was a buy out there would have been many people there who would want to voice their opinion and the fab five would have been even more uncomfortable. We might still be there listening. Sealed  Collusion and collaboration may be an ethics violation as well as state charges but having SLED investigate will reap the same findings as the Cater Lake - a long time for nothing.

I wanted to avoid the ageism of the crowd, but basically you are correct with that analysis.  I'd venture to say at least 75% of the mad-crowd is on the "retired" side of life.  Don't know if it is because the elderly are easily swayed or brain-washed, looking for someone to blame for life's bad deals, or just looking for some "savior" to lead them ( to where....that has yet to be seen) and follow the likes of Driver or MCW with the conspiracy theories. But it's not like you can card entrants to the council and disallow old folks to the club.

Don't misunderstand, I aint "hating on the elderly". It  just seems they need some other diversion to occupy their days.  I have a spare set of nice graphite golf clubs they could borrow. Y'know, take out that anger on some gophers or greens....
