I suppose most of you have now heard what Michael Cunningham has done and it appears to be at the direction of his 'mentor' Joey Ray Preston, former King of the County.
Michael has filed a motion pertaining to the lawsuit perpetrated by Preston several months ago against Bob Waldrep and Cindy Wilson. Preston was crying that they interferred with his job and wants them to quit asking questions that he did not want to answer and asking also to see the books.
Well....Cunningham wants Preston's name dropped in the papers and wants his name inserted as the perpetrator. Now, if you support Cunningham to be Administrator, ask "WHY" Cunningham decided to do that. He has not been on the firing line by Council at all, has he? REASON: CUNNINGHAM IS, AS SOME HAVE SAID, JUST A MOUTHPIECE FOR THE FORMER KING OF THE COUNTY WHO STILL INSISTS ON CALLING THE SHOTS. Preston and his Gang of Shame are trying one more way to keep the books of Anderson County CLOSED to intense scrutiny. Preston has spent millions of our tax dollars on that purpose and we keep asking: Why is it so important to keep the books hidden from the public?
If anyone wants the same old same old way of doing County business and keeping everything hidden, then Michael Cunningham is the man to do it.
Expect more criminal actions at next week's meeting by the Shame Gang of McAbee, Thompson, Greer, Floyd and Ron Wilson and now joined by Michael Cunningham. They are all DESPERATE to keep the books closed.
dude... WTF? the 'books' are open.

have been for years. Scrutinized by a third party... checks and balances?
I am saddened and appalled that Ms. Wilson and her crones have wasted HOW MUCH money suing the county in her personal "I'll-get-even-with-joey-preston-for-putting-sewer-lines-on-my-property" vendetta.
That is NOT representation.

Amazing how the Prestonites can find no wrong in what Cunningham did. But they were the same with King Joe, who never did any wrong. I'm betting a 12-pack that Cunningham will be leaving very soon. Maybe he and his mentor can find work in Chicago.
I was hoping somebody else would jump in and comment on your misguided allegations, Prevail, since I seem to be about as popular as jock itch the last couple of days. But since nobody did, other than Danny0's brief post, I will.
I think there are two clear purposes for Michael Cunningham to request that his name be put on that lawsuit, and neither one of them has to do with "opening the books." For cryin' out loud, Prevail, if you're going to have a 5-2 majority on County Council come January, they can even vote to release those precious "legal narratives" that Joey claimed attorney-client privilege on (he waived his right to sole control of that privilege when he asked the current Council for a vote on whether to release them or not.) The new majority has access to everything. Really.
The first purpose for replacing "Joey R. Preston" with "Michael Cunningham" in that lawsuit is that, as the new administrator, it is now his job to protect county staff from intimidation by Council. Civil servants should never have to fear for their jobs because of a change in leadership, but all this bragging about putting people on leave and getting rid of people has instilled that fear in many of them. I suspect it's not Cunningham who's trying to circumvent the open records laws, but rather the new Council that wants to circumvent Section 4-9-660 requiring Council to deal with employees through the Administrator.
Second, Preston's lawsuit against C.Wilson and Waldrep technically became moot once Preston agreed to the buyout with the "hold blameless" clause, but he can't just ask that it be dropped. That takes a court order, which means a hearing. Cunningham can serve as the surrogate for that hearing, which will a) allow the lawsuit to be dismissed, and b) clear up the lines of responbibility for legal fees that have already been accrued in filing and defending this case.
You delight in assigning sinister motives to anything Preston did, and now you're taking the same approach against Cunningham. Your leaps of logic are wearing thin, even for some of us who actually supported the efforts to get Preston to move on to new endeavors.
Give Cunningham a chance. Right now, you're trying to demonize him without a shred of evidence that he will be Joey Preston II, and that's just wrong. It isn't necessary to destroy anybody to change the direction of Anderson County, and attempting to do so is petty, ruthless and misguided. If it continues, I strongly suspect the next loud noise you hear coming from the Administrative offices will be the sound of Cindy and Bob Waldrep shooting themselves in the foot ... again.
JDTippett threw this at me: "Your leaps of logic are wearing thin, even for some of us who actually supported the efforts to get Preston to move on to new endeavors."
You are right on one thing JD. Your popularity is about 4 points lower than the Governor of Illinois is today. But about Cunningham. You may remember that I was one of the citizens that accompanied Bob Waldrep, Cindy Wilson and others to the old Court House in February of this year to view some credit card receipts. Without dragging on, I was one of the citizens that Michael Cunningham and Taylor Jones blocked from using the hall to get to the stairs to go to the upstairs room. When I say blocked, I mean that Cunningham and Jones stood shoulder to shoulder with elbows outstretched in the small hallway to block us. One citizen was pushed by Cunningham, with his shoulder, when the citizen tried to walk past them. (This could surface later.) After a few minutes Cindy and Bob convinced them they were breaking the law and they finally
allowed us passage. I don't have to be told that Cunningham is good for Anderson and would be a good Administrator because I know first hand for a fact that he did and will do anything to protect Preston and the famous 'books'. We would be jumping into an even bigger mess if Cunningham is kept on as Administrator since Joey Ray would still be around to direct him. No Preston...No Cunningham in 2009...For the good of Anderson.
Prevail, my post was made as a member of this forum who happens to have a different opinion than yours. As for my popularity here, you and I may be about tied, but frankly, I don't care. As far as Blogojevich, I have better hair.
You are not always right. I am not always right. The only difference between us is that I'm willing to admit it when I'm wrong. In this case, it's not a totally black & white issue as you paint it. There is a middle ground between the position of the Preston worshippers and the positions of those like you for whom nothing short of total destruction of all things Preston is acceptable.
The sooner Anderson County accepts compromise, the sooner the county can move forward.
JDTippett mentioned that "nothing short of total destruction of all things Preston is acceptable."
Agreed. That's exactly how I feel and I believe it's the opinion of a majority of citizens. Take no prisoners.
JD, I appreciate your reply and agree with it for the most part. It has been painful to read the discussions on moderation. I am grateful that those discussions will be taken to e-mail in the future. I thought that you removed one of my posts that identified a menber that would like to remain anonymous. I may have been mistaken as I am once again "across the pond" and the interenet is sometimes to blame. I will try to obey the "New Rules".
Prevail, Once again you took out of context what JD stated. I believe that I can state for many here that your position of speaking "for the majority of citizens" is not based on statistics.
Guess everyone noticed in AIM this morning that the Preston clone, Michael Cunningham, used Preston's attorney in Charleston, Ms. Bloodthirsty, to redo the suit against Cindy and Bob. Will cost us at least another $25,000 for that stupid action Michael. But, as Cunningham's mentor believed, 'money is no object if you are county administrator'.
I, and associates, talk to many people every day and we are yet to find the first person that believes Cunningham should be the new administrator. And, from the last election, I feel comfortable in using the word 'majority'.
The finger pointing hate-mongers are out in force.
ONE MORE TIME! Cindy got everything she asked for. She admitted that in court as part of her deposition.
"You can't handle the truth."
[/quotte/]
Not yet, but she will. The Courts ruling had nothing to do with her getting "everything she asked for". Matter of fact republikin because she was not getting what she asked for, she and Waldrep are being sued for going to the employees directly; something Greer, R Wilson, Floyd have all done.
BTW, I understand Cunningham made a motion to be the new Plaintiff on Preston's law suit. That should be the kiss of death for him. That is insubordination and he has shown he plans on continuing the contentious relationship, not begin with a clean slate. His New Years present should be a pink slip.
Taxi Dude can most likely handle the truth the problem is you do not know what it is.
The article is here: http://www.independentmail.com/news/2008/dec/12/cunningham-files-replace-preston-legal-action/
I think a lot of people would be less suspicious of Cunningham if the circumstances around his hiring wouldn't have been so blatantly illegal and unethical. I tend to agree with some who have said the honorable thing to do would've been for him not to accept the job that night.

I agree with lee-cole who said "the honorable thing to do would've been for him not to accept the job that night."
I'm afraid Cunningham has been in Preston's lap for too many years and now may not be able to distinguish between honor and shame. Should he have talked to Bob and Cindy and told them what he had been advised to do and why he believes he must 'protect himself and his employees'? This man, Cunningham, that prays about his county business seems to also be seeking council with Preston's attornies that, so far, have been able to keep Preston out of jail. Too much smoke coming out of Cunningham's office to think he is the right man.
angelsc, why are you always so negative and say such things to the people that only want open and honest government? We only want the best for our county including the best use for our high taxes, yet, some as you always oppose us. Why?
Prevail, "negative" depends on your perception of an issue. You think you unrelenting attacks on Joey Preston, Michael Cunningham, and county employees who worked for them are POSITIVES; therefore, anything anybody says in opposition to you, you consider a NEGATIVE.
There are many, including me, who think YOU are the one being chronically negative. That would make anything Angel or anybody says against your cynical viewpoint a POSITIVE.
Get it? I hope so, my friend, I hope so.
Well for one I am not negative. I guess you have not read any of your posts. I am so tired of hearing about an open & honest goverment. The radio crowd will never be happy with anything. All of them are the negative ones who look for trouble around every corner. You say you want what is best for this county, well is the negative, racist comments that are always coming out of the radios crowd good for this county ? That group is nothing but a bunch of crabby old men who think that they can say and do what they want. Just like at the council meeting when I was in the hallway speaking with a news station and one of your group members comes out and starts swearing at me in front of my 12 year old daughter,. Then the jerk tries to start a fight when asked to stop. By the way he was walked out of the building. This is why everybody with a brain takes what comes out of the radio crowds mouth with a grain of salt. When you get REAL proof then maybe I will discuss this with ya, until then please feel free to continue making idiots of yourselvesangelsc, why are you always so negative and say such things to the people that only want open and honest government? We only want the best for our county including the best use for our high taxes, yet, some as you always oppose us. Why?
