It was brought to my attention that Tom Martin stated he did not write Cunningham's contract, it was dictated to him by Preston. (Ask him to repeat that before you refute that). Why would Preston want to shore up Cunningham as the Administrator? Why did Floyd present that as her idea without identifying this was Preston's contract for Cunningham and Preston driving that action? Why would Preston push for Cunningham to be Administrator? How does that give the new Council confidence in their ability to move beyond Preston as it seems Preston has orchestrated a continued implied hand in Anderson County?

1-Opinin,

Mr. Joey Preston’s foot-prints in Anderson County, regardless of how you view them, are a permanent part of our history. Although his methods of implementing his ideas were somewhat flashy and reflected his strong self-confidence, there is no doubt that Mr. Preston has guided Anderson County to higher levels of achievements and pride. And I do believe that Mr. Michael Cunningham will continue the journey, but his style of management will probably reflect his thoughtful personality and his willingness to give credit of good works to others.

It is not his past foot prints that concern me or those I have spoken to, it is the possibility of our continued path with Preston's foot prints we want to avoid.

Cunningham's appointment is questionable. After all , what he knows, he knew all along and never came forward. That would not reflect well on him on a going forward basis.

This is not Zen County Administration, this is small town politics at it's worst and high debt on our books. Great legacy.

Geeze, ONE, what debt are you talking about ?

Anderson is building toward the future, not retreating into the past. Sure, we float bonds (borrow) to finance projects. Yes, those bonds will be paid off by those who follow us.

But those who follow us will be the greatest beneficiaries of those projects. The libraries, civic centers, police stations, fire stations, and community buildings that we build today will set the stage for people and companies to move to Anderson County in the future, bringing their investments and jobs with them.

Not many want to move to a county inhabited by backward thinking folks who are content to suck down suds from the fridge on their front porch while their abandoned pick-up sits in their red mud front yard. "Gee Sammy Sue, it's too bad Billy Bob had to move so far away to find work, isn't it?" "Yup, Big Bobby, but they are really lucky to have all that industry over there in Greenville County."

I think Michael Cunningham will do a great job. Think about it, The council had no authority to direct the attorney to pen the employment contract. That is the job of the current administrator. And Joey did his job. What's yer beef ?

And taxes ? I can't believe we get so much for such low taxes. The only area that I think needs attention is education. We have to do something to move out of 50th place ! Better education will go a long way in attracting higher paying jobs.

My question was really about the comfort levle of Council given Cunningham brings a certain amount of baggage with him. Why was he rammed through the system bt Preston? Call me a skeptic (because I am) but I am not certain I trust the actions of anyone at this point. I know, I know, wait and see but what I have seen so far has not been pleasant to watch.

Some things I do not understand about Anderson. I hear what a great Administrator Preston was but I do not see proof of it. Our roads and bridges are in a state of disrepair. We have lost jobs not gained them and the growth I see is not planned with traffic studies  or as far as I can see any plans.

Joey did his job? I do not think he hires the Administrator at all, the Council does. In this case, Preston managed that order of business. There was a set process which was not followed.

I have not decided it is a beef yet. I am asking questions of people who think this is great. My question is why?

Glad to see you back, Buster.  The amount of credible rhetoric has been sadly lacking.

On Feb. 6 of this year Michael Cunningham and Taylor Jones did all they could to keep some citizens, including Stan Welch and Liz Carey, reporters, from viewing some public records. They blocked a hallway to keep citizens away from the stairs and elevator. Bob Waldrep and Cindy Wilson finally 'won' the priviledge to see a box of credit card receipts and a group was invited with them to view public records in our public court house that we own. It took about 15 minutes for Bob and Cindy to advise and convince Michael and Taylor that they cannot legally keep the citizens out of the courthouse.

Michael Cunningham did a great injustice to some taxpayers and should NOT be our next administrator. He may be an OK man but he, as Preston, think the public records and taxpayer money are only for them. Things are no longer going to be that way Joey and Michael and Taylor. If you want more of Joey Preston and Bill McAbee keep Cunningham. If you are sick of the embarrassment caused by Preston and McAbee, get Cunningham out now.

Regardless of who the administrator is, why is he/she not hired on a yearly basis?  With the current job market, why ever have the potential for another buyout.  How many workers have  guaranteed jobs? It was different when there were tons of high paying jobs to choose from and noone if irreplacable.  It just seems like we don't learn from past mistakes, just keep repeating them.

I hope the New counsil will take a look at this problem and rectify it ASAP. You are so right about it should only be one year at a time and no contracts to deal with again and surely no more BUY OUTS.

Aren't most jobs (city, county, state and for that matter most companies) usually filled from within before posting for outside applicants? What is the point of working hard and hoping for a promotion if an outsider is brought in? Or is it that you're just against Mr. Cunningham simply because he worked under Mr. Preston? Give the man a chance before you jump to conclusions. Or are you too busy looking for the villain behind every tree? "Paranoia will destroy ya."

Right on, sweet-p. Promoting from within is the best way to show existing employees that they to can make it up the professional ladder one day

I think Mr Cunningham will prove to be an able and fair Administrator. I think he deserves a chance. The fact he was loyal to his boss at the time should not be held against him.

When did this happen? What does that say for his interfering with the auditor(s)? If it's going to be more of the Preston ideology, questioning the "right" to see the books then he needs to go.

That exactly what I was refering to. Once a CLONE always a CLONE. This is not the first thing he has done to prevent people from seeing docments of interest.

The finger pointing hate-mongers are out in force.

ONE MORE TIME! Cindy got everything she asked for. She admitted that in court as part of her deposition.

Yes I can handle the truth when the truth is spoken. I was not refer to Cindy, I was refering to other whom have asked for certain docments and have been told that those docments are not for the public to see, so sinse you already know all the facts and answers then I guess there is no reason to go any further, is there know-it-all.
