There is no need to have at you. You are your own worst enemy.

Actually, I am among my worst enemies. ;-) What is it that is said about this ???? The enemy of my enemy is my friend ? Oh, no, I don't even like myself.....!

Non-sequitur, I don't believe my post was directed at you, but since you jumped in:
1. You can thumbs down anybody you want to, but if the moderators started hiding or deleting posts simply because we disagree with them, you'd be one of the first ones to gripe about "censorship" wouldn't you? I noticed above that one of Art Kaldas' posts drew two quick thumbs downs also. Art is never offensive. Aggravatingly stubborn, sometimes, but never offensive, and never of "low quality" as the message says when a post draws three or more thumbs downs.
2. Yes, I've chastised SSHM for calling everybody "stupid." I've asked others to knock it off with the personal insults, too. But, to my knowledge, none of the moderators has ever officially warned anybody for that. Yet.
3. Merrymac's personal life, whether it has any bearing on her opinion or not, is off-limits. Really. I mean, I'm not even related to Bill McAbee, and I think he's gotten something of a bum rap here in recent months.

Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer
JD the reason I "jumped in" was the second paragraph in your post because I gave that post a thumb down.
By the way, here is Republikin's opinion that drew three "thumbs downs" almost immediately. Anybody see any reason for it to be hidden, other than not agreeing with all or part of it?-jdtippett
I did not mean to bring up merrymacsc's personal life. But I do believe the question was a valid one. I say this because I believe there are posts on the cocklebur where she talked about who her husband is and things he has done or not done.
In fact she names him on a post she just posted under "Animal Shelter" here tonight.merrymacsc you chose to make who you were public! You chose to make public your husband's identity. Do you think there is any politician in this world that has not been spoken ill of? Please! But you can rest assured I will give your opinions of my posts all the attention they deserve!
Several things don't add up. How was the number $1.14 million arrived at? It is much more than what his contract called for. Can anyone explain where that number came from based on the contract? Second Mr. Hopkins campaigned long and hard for the one cent capital projects tax, yet when a large chunk of his budget was taken for the buy out of Mr. Preston he commented in the paper that it was no beg deal! Apparently he doesn't need the money for road repair. Also when Michael Thompson and Ron Wilson ran four years ago they made comments to the effect that they would give Mr. Preston very bad grades on job performance and would even fire him. There was no yelling about anticipatory breach of contract and a buy out. The new council members have said nothing negative about Mr. Preston so why is this breach of contract now such a big deal?

More good advice
Merrymac said "All five of them are honorable men who have tried to do what is right .."
Are you saying that what the Gang of Shame did last Tuesday night was an honorable thing and in the best interest of Anderson County taxpayers? Were you there to witness what they did, or did you see the replay on tv?

You are late to dinner.
All this has been hashed and re-hashed. Re-read all the scoop on this in various blog postings and responses.
Advice: believe only about 10% of it. The thing to remember most is it's isn't costing taxpayers anymore money. The buyout has been coverd in the current budget.
The amount of the buyout per household doesn't amount to lunch for two at McDonalds. Again, it's already paid, so take your money and have lunch.
I heard on the Voice of Anderson, WAIM, this morning that Preston had a few thousand dollars worth of work done on his high-priced SUV a couple of days before the meeting since he knew he was getting the title. It was reported that he also got his check the very next day and is set to enjoy over $100,000 year retirement and untold hundreds of thousands of dollars in the bank. ALL AT THE TAXPAYERS EXPENSE AND BLESSED BY HIS GANG OF SHAME. He will laugh at us and at his Gang when he skips out with the loot. Honorable?

Eat your heart out ! The SUV was due for a tune-up, etc. I hope it left with a full tank of gas too. Believe about 1% of what you hear on WAIM.
Rep---Yep, guess I am late to dinner. If however we (the county) have that $1.14 million available, wouldn't it be better spent on infrastructure repair? After all that was the big push behind the capital projects tax. All I heard was how desperately we need road and bridge repair. Looks to me like if roads and bridges are that bad then the money should go there. Apparently roads and bridges are not that bad. Even Mr. Hopkins said he didn't mind losing a big chunk out of his budget for the buy out. Too many conflicting statements coming from the county. Do we need road repair or not? It looks as though we sure didn't need the capital projects tax to pass since we seem to have all of this loose money just floating around!

You are way too smart to feign stupidity. Or are you ? I do appreciate the creativity. To be more clear, the money isn't floating around, it's in Preston's account. The leadership of Cindy Wilson and Bob Waldrip has paved us roads to no where.

JDTippett,
Thank you for the compliment. I can use all the encouragement I can receive. However, my being aggravatingly stubborn is incurable.
