Mr. Joey Preston's departure from Anderson County Administration has brought sadness among his supporters, while his opposition cheered. Some have felt that his severance pay was well deserved, while others thought it was excessive.

The question remains: What is next for Anderson County?

Most close observers of Anderson County believe that Mr. Joey Preston was a great administrator, but not a perfect one. His ideas and plans were brilliant, but his execution of these plans was controversial. However, by far, Mr. Preston’s greatest achievement was his ability to build a team of the best and brightest county officials. So, for the sake of Anderson County, I hope and pray that the New Council will maintain and support the present administration officials, as they continue to lead our community in these difficult and challenging times.

As I have watched the rusted &  bent wheels of progress plod along for the past decade, I will assure you readers that the appointment of Mr. Cunningham will undoubtedly result in the next layer of discord and animosity among the power players.   I can almost hear the accursed slights due to his race, or his allegience to Mr. Preston, or his lack of Administrator's skills. No matter what "change" this county realizes, there is always those who will not be satisfied that it wasn't THEM getting the job.

You are spot on Wyatt: Already this morning Rick threw out the first racial slur..... at Cunningham . Check the tape as Rick says, "what's he (Cunningham) going to do? Play the race card....? Driver and a few of his callers slur the black race jsut about everyday. They think they cover their slurs by saying stuff like, "I don't care what color a person is......"
But, it's clear to anyone with ears what they are really say'n. We all need to stand with Mr. Cunningham and give him a solid opportunity to do his job. He's a good and capable man. Of course, that didn't help Preston much. Let's hope we've learned our lesson. Kudos to Ms. Floyd for making the motion to hire Mr. Cunningham. And, let's not overlook the "NO" votes from C. Wilson and B. Waldrip. I wonder who they had in mind for the job?

Michael Cunningham is a fine person who should do well in this new position.  He is coming in under very difficult & stressful circumstances, but will do the job efficiently and honorably.  I hope some of the nay-sayers will give him a chance, and I believe the current and incoming coucil will.

I think the Gang of 5 plus 1 did Mr. Cunningham a real dis-service Tuesday. Mr. Cunningham is an honorable man and would make a great administrator. But because of Gracie and the gang blindsiding him, he will now be forever linked by many to the disgusting JP buyout. I'm afraid they have done him much more harm than good.

Than you don't know Cunningham. Watch him rise above all this and become a terrific public servant in his new role. There is/was no need for a national search when the right person is right on the staff. He is not the cause of change. But he and we will benefit from his leadership. I think the people (taxpayers) will get behind him. That should mean that Bob and Cindy will take a huge risk if they target huim like they did Preston.

You know, when you can't make a clear point you tell everyone they "miss the point of a post." Please write more clearly. Pray tell, what the heck is YOUR point? If it is that, Cunningham can't free himself from Preston. I say again YOU DON"T KNOW CUNNINGHAM ! How about you start supporting him be not being among the first to tie his future to Preston. He's his own man and he's a good man.

I surely hope your support for Cunningham turns out better that the support you gave McAbee in his bid for re-election. Because once again it seems you have no clue.

Yes they did. The way that was done was as 'in your face" as the entire Council meeting. Those five made him a bad choice simply by the way he was rammed down the next Councils throat. If Cunninham were smart he would tell the next Council he'll serve interim and allow them to make the decision. If he's as good as anyone says his action will gasin him the position permanently.

What Driver said was that IF the new Council void his contract Cunningham would say it was because he is black not because the old Council failed to observe their own hiring policies, (well or any protocol that night). With a half black President I hope we never hear that again but frankly Floyd makes statements about her being black and a woman as reasons she is less than revered by many.

I thought your point was clear and well presented.

Cunningham may be guilty by association. And by the way, joey Preston was a HORRIBLE administrator. That must have been a joke that someone said that he was good. Preston was a spendthrift and was WAY too arrogant. Cunningham has alot of baggage and may want to resign and start new somewhere else. We need a FRESH face in there!

By the way, the reason that I say that Cunningham may be guilty by association, is that he has been in there for 10 years under Preston and has to many just been a "Yes Man". He has just gone along with the flow!!!

No repblikin he was making an educated guess based on Floyd's habit of making comments like that when she didn't get her way. Might be unfair of him to guess. We will see

Ya know I don't know any of these people in the council or the Administration. I do not know Mr. Cunningham and feel he was put into untenable position. The man may be the most quailified administrator in the entire world, however for the forseeable future he will be an Administrator with a huge cloud over his head. Everything he wants to do will be held to a different standard then most administrators simply because the way he was put into office. I think we ought give the man the beneifit of the doubt, so something can get done for the county and the people of the county. Right now it looks like the people of the county are being screwd by the council and the outgoing administrator. They may not be however there is an old saying that goes something like

Perseption is everything. Right now Mr. cunningham ought to make some kind of statement as to how he plans to help the county and the present council work together.
