Anderson County Building Officials Failed

Folks,

I promised way back in August to advise the outcome of the SCLLR hearing on the house in Chestnut Springs owned by Bill and Deborah Chandler.  You'll remember Stan Welch's article about lack of performance by Anderson County Building officials?  I caught a ton of crap stating my position on the validity of Mr. Chandler's claims that the county Building Officials failed to do their job.  Everyone on this forum bashed Stan and called Mr. Chandler an 'unqualified' engineer.

The verdict is in.  The SC Commission of Labor Licensing and Regulation found FOR THE CHANDLERS ON ALL CLAIMS.  SCLLR stripped the builder of his license, awarded the Chandler's his posted bond, stopped the builder's work on all currnet projects and will not allow him to be licensed again in the state of SC.  The state agreed the county FAILED to do its job.  The Chandlers should handily win the civil suit currently against the builder but even better for all of us taxpayers....

Can anyone say LAWSUIT against the County????  And the Anderson County Building Official's did their job- my big ole ....well you know.  God I LOVE it when I'm right!!!!

We need REFORM and we need it NOW!

No surprise that the article was factually correct and the outcome was in favor of the owners. Thanks for the update.

Stan Welch does not print something without being certain it is correct. He is the best local reporter we have and that is why some people dislike him. I'm afraid Anderson County will be the target of numerous lawsuits coming from this one. Did Preston have a hand in this?

Yeah, Stan certainly nailed down the "facts" on the existence of the videotape of JP's activities at Cater's Lake that long-ago night and the "facts" about which recreation building those proposed bond funds would go to, didn't he? Stan is an excellent reporter, particularly when it comes to investigative journalism. But Stan ain't perfect. Stop fawning. Wink

As for the question about Joey hving a hand in this .... hmmmm, let me think here .... IT'S HIS CONTRACT THAT'S BEING BOUGHT OUT! OF COURSE HE WAS INVOLVED IN NEGOTIATIONS.

DOH!

That backs up what I said on another thread about partisans on both sides of the Preston issue having some sort of weird brain damage. It's one thing to tale a half-fact, repeat it often enough that everybody believes it, then use it as a political hammer. Using a dumb question to stir up political passions is another story altogether.

Oh, come on Stan is right about everything? Please ! Spare us the suck-ups.
As for Joey having a hand in it. Isn't he the guy with "absolute power?"

JD perhpas people are angry not that Joey had his hands in writing both the contract and the buy out contract but that the Council did not. If you do not see that we have all been taken that will be a revelation that disappoints many.

The item was not on the agenda. The Council did not want what they planned to be known to the public. They attempt to say it just came up. The contracts had been drawn up and two Council members did not have the opportunity to read them or ask the attorney any questions about what they were ramming down everyone's throats. Do we think the new Administrator accepted a new contract without having the benefit of reading it? Heck no. Thompson was so ill he had to go to Sullivan's. They still had business to conduct and ended the meeting because they knew they would not have public support and were too ashamed to face the public. They sold us snake oil and gave it to us as an enema.

1-opinion, good post. Amazing that some of these posters have so little knowledge about what Preston has done to this county. And to think, some of them actually are allowed to vote.

I know ... someone actually allows you to vote, Mister Wilson. Sad. What is worse is your ignorance of how WELL this County is doing. You look at things through a very narrow scope to determine success or failure. Thank goodness the rest of the world uses a much larger scope to determine success and/or failure.

You fail at understanding how the County Administrator form of government works. It seems to me it's time to hold yet ANOTHER Civics class. Since I know you won't attend, here are the cliff notes:

1.) You, the electorate do not get a say in determining who the County Administrator or Assistant County Administrator is.

2.) You, the electorate, do not get the right to evaluate, review, or make suggestions as to who is or is not hired.

3.) You, the electorate, do not determine who is qualified or not qualified to be the County Administrator or Assistant County Administrator.

4.) You, the electorate, can have a court of public opinion, but it matters not what you think or say in it.

5.) You, the electorate, DO elect individuals WHO DO determine, evaluate, review, qualify and eventually hire or fire the County Administrator.

Get a clue or move to Pickens. I hear its nice there this time of year.

... stupid ...

SSHM, please refer to other posters by their screen names, not what you think or know their real names are. You must have missed the general warning last week.

And, please don't encourage him to come to Pickens, nice though it is this time of year. We already have enough far right-wingers to last us well into the future. Wink

... then why have profile information enabled on the website? This is profile information that the registered user can willingly choose to enable. In fact, if memory serves me correctly, you have to TURN ON that information - it's not enabled by default within your profile.

Should we not globally limit this ability then?

I read that, SSHM. Nowhere did I see "Mr. Wilson." Maybe I should rephrase my warning: Please refer to other members by their screen names and do not attempt to guess or reveal any information beyond what is in their profiles.

I don't want to "globally" limit anything, but it's intimidating enough to some posters when you call everybody who disagrees with you "stupid" without them having to worry about having their anonymity or semi-anonymity shattered.

How's that, SSHM? It's just a courtesy. Humor me on this one, okay?

Thompson has a right to go where he wants. As for Preston "writing" the severance agreement, it could be as simple as "if you think a buyout is in order, put something on paper and let us take a look at it." It's done everyday.

If the shoe fits, wear it, I suppose. Then again, I hope most would know by now that the "... stupid ..." is used in the same vein as "Regards," or "Cordially," or any other form of concluding a post. If folks interpreted it as a direct insult ... well ... I suppose in that instance, the signature has a double meaning.

Oh the irony of it all ...

JDTippett, could you encourage some of those rightwing conservatives in Pickens to move to Anderson County? We have too many farleft liberals and a good conservative living on each side might get rid of the liberal. I've heard Joey is looking at a spread near Liberty. Ron Wilson wants to set him up as a farmer like he and his daughter are...big money they say. Anything to that?
