Naaah - thisn one is good enough. It seemed to tickle you.

Hey, have you noticed we are the only two blogging today? Must be a big retail sale at some local store ? Or is there a blog lunch we are missing?

Seems the problem was an issue with a non-cooperative scanner.   But the agenda is now on the web.

JDTippett,

The situation with Mr. Joey Preston is very hard to read. It appears that all sides have mixed feelings, contradicting thoughts, and many voices. In addition, the council meeting agenda of November 18 does not reveal any clues.

Art your numbers were way off. ROTFLMAO. Now that is just too funny. What a lovely send off present. Anna Mitchell was correct.

Art,

Did you go to the County Council meeting tonight? Is what I heard correct? Is JRP really leaving?

Is it true they have already hired someone to take his place?

Petunia,

Mr. Joey Preston has officially been removed from the Administration. The County Council has bought his contract for $1.1 million. In addition, they have already hired Mr. Michael Cunningham, with a salary of $125,000 a year, and a car allowance of $700 a month.

I was there, too, Petunia.  Cindy Wilson verbally referenced a severance price of one and a half million.  And yes, Michael Cunningham was voted in as administrator.  I was shocked at the speed of the process and the incredible process.  But it was legal.  And it is a reality.

Like with the Obama election, it would not have been my choice.   But - it is done.  Let's give Mr. Cuenningham and the incoming council time to get their act together and work for the county.

I am NOT leaving the USA because Obama was elected.  Ditto with the anderson council and their actions.

Thank you Art and Queen,

I was not sure what I had heard was correct.

We can only hope for more peaceful coexistence and pulling together for the best for Anderson County.

All I can say is Joey needs to make sure he gets the check before December 31. If he waits until after Jan. 1, and Obama's tax increase on the rich kicks in retroactive to the first of the year, it'll cost him 'bout another $50,000 in taxes to that bottomless pit we call the Federal government.

I have spoken in favor of the county buying out Joey's contract in a reasonable compromise to avoid a protracted legal battle. There is nothing reasonable about $1.1 million dollars. What you have here is several current Councilmen gouging the people of Anderson County in the eyes on their way out the door.

It's an outrage - and, again, that's from somebody who favored a reasonable buyout.

But, as SSHM said a few weeks ago, "...CHECKMATE in (less than) three months." (At least two of us here soooo saw this coming.) Innocent

Or, if you prefer poker terms to chess terms, Joey called his critics' bluff and walked away with a $1.1 million pot after he revealed a couple of Aces and three Jokers that shouldn't even have been in the deck. Nice hand. Frown

And a bit of advice to all you rabid Preston critics who were blabbing about putting people on administrative leave without pay and cleaning house with a slash-and-burn approach in January: Next time you play poker, make sure there aren't any wildcards in the deck - and, for cryin' out loud, try playing with a full deck next time, okay?

OMG, I'm agreeng with JD - except, I think the payout is fair because it is contractual. Mainly though, Mr. Preston out played them at their game. Or, maybe he let them think it was their game? Isn't that what a good poker player does?

Michael Cunningham is a good man. I'll be supporting him al I can. We all should. We may sulk or gloat for a day or two, but WE must move the County forward in a more positive way.

I'm with JD on this one, although if people wanted a buyout, they should not be mad that he got one this big. I say good for him.
I hear now the land for the tri countuy landfill is being sold again...maybe Joey will poke his head back into that one, eh JD? :)

Hey Everyone
In Jan when the New Administrator is driving a new Escalade or STS don't complain .. It's in the budget or the package.

Seemed lots of JP's critics focused on the Vehicle choice, just remember it's not the choice but is it within budget?

Hold on Folks;  It's not over until the FAT LADY sings and the FAT LADY sure hasn't sung here yet.

I've heard that there is going to be a Audit done by the SC State Attorney General Office starting in Janusry, 2009. If this is soo then everything that just happened may turn out to nothing more than a row of peanuts.  This problely is the reason for such a quick PAY-OFF.

Also, If I am correctly understanding the Bi-Laws of Anderson County, that all JOBS with a Administrated Title have to be posted 30 days before the Job can be filled. They can appoint someone to finish out Preston term and then the Job would be up for bids with resume's.

So don't count you chickens before they hatch.

Why write that Preston has participated in probable wrong doing by trying to grant him immunity in the buyout contract? The Council do not have the power to say which laws anyone he can be charged for violating or any wrong doing. They can however justify what C Wilson has been saying she suspected has been going on and that is exactly what the five managed to disclose to the public in a back handed manner; "immunity" from possible prosecution. The audit will apparently reveal misappropriation and abuse. Bless their little black hearts.

Taxi-Dude
who told you what the attorney general's office plans to do?  I doubt seriously that Henry McMaster called you up to tell you that tidbit.  Did you get that news from Rick Driver?  IMHO Henry McMaster want waste another nickle on CW and BW and their attempts to destroy certain people in Anderson County.
