All I can say is Joey needs to make sure he gets the check before December 31. If he waits until after Jan. 1, and Obama's tax increase on the rich kicks in retroactive to the first of the year, it'll cost him 'bout another $50,000 in taxes to that bottomless pit we call the Federal government.
I have spoken in favor of the county buying out Joey's contract in a reasonable compromise to avoid a protracted legal battle. There is nothing reasonable about $1.1 million dollars. What you have here is several current Councilmen gouging the people of Anderson County in the eyes on their way out the door.
It's an outrage - and, again, that's from somebody who favored a reasonable buyout.
But, as SSHM said a few weeks ago, "...CHECKMATE in (less than) three months." (At least two of us here soooo saw this coming.)
Or, if you prefer poker terms to chess terms, Joey called his critics' bluff and walked away with a $1.1 million pot after he revealed a couple of Aces and three Jokers that shouldn't even have been in the deck. Nice hand.
And a bit of advice to all you rabid Preston critics who were blabbing about putting people on administrative leave without pay and cleaning house with a slash-and-burn approach in January: Next time you play poker, make sure there aren't any wildcards in the deck - and, for cryin' out loud, try playing with a full deck next time, okay?
