The Anderson County Council Agenda for the meeting of November 18, 2008, includes three presentations by Mr. Bob Waldrep. Apparently these presentations will contain Mr. Waldrep’s response to a meeting by the Council Personnel Committee on November 04, 2008. Prior to this meeting, Mr. Bob Waldrep and Ms. Cindy Wilson requested to attend, but their request was denied based on the explanation that only committee members, with voting rights, are allowed to attend.

Mr. Waldrep’s three presentations can be summarized as follows:

•Based on Section 2-362 of the Anderson County Code, any member of the council is expressly invited to attend any committee meeting and to express his or her opinion on any issue before that committee, provided that this does not enable such member to vote on any issue before that committee.
•Based on Section 2-366 of the Anderson County Code, all committee recommendations requiring formal action by council shall be furnished to all members of council prior to consideration and adoption by council.
•A general discussion of the Authority of County Council to Employ the Administrator.

Thanks for the information Art!

You go Bob! Show them they can't ignore the law. It is about open government! Why do I think he did not get the information from the County Attorney? Oh that is right. The County attorney is not the county's attorney. He assists and advises Mr. Preston!

Oh how fun can this be? Standing room only.

I just went to the county website to download the entire agenda packet for the 18th. It was not there. The only one there was the one for the third. How did you get Art?

But while I was on the website I was looking at the county's organizational chart. Below is what is currently listed as the county attorney's mission statement on that section of the chart. Do you think many in the county can understand it?

As nearly as I can cipher, Ron, it says: "If you can't convince 'em, confuse 'em." Laughing

Why would anybody put LATIN on an Anderson County website? Check here. Anderson County apparently has somebody on the payroll who hasn't done the job yet. It's just a placeholder in a computer program, apparently - better known as "gibberish." Pigeon Latin, so to speak.

That is standard dummy text when you are printing, typesetting, or designing webpages. It's always the lorem ipsum text. I don't know how it started, but it's from Cicero. It just holds a space.

Thanks, Virginia. I was getting around to the Cicero bit, but you beat me to it. I'm a slow researcher sometimes. Wink

My highschool Latin teacher made us translate it on our final exam in Latin III. I'll never forget it because it was so hard.

Thanks Virginia! I thought for a moment I had celebrated the Maryland victory over North Carolina with a few too many adult beverages. JD, latin or not it had me confused!

Looks like Ralph is going to be around for awhile at Maryland, Ron. Drink one for me while you're at it. He's a good coach, although if he doesn't drop a pound or two he's going to blow a gasket on the sidelines someday. I'd bet he hasn't seen his own feet since he was in high school. Smile

You know, my two favorite ACC football coaches are whoever's coaching at Clemson and whichever coach beats North Carolina on any given Saturday.

Virginia, I just fed that entire "lorem ipsum" text into an online Latin-English translator, and it didn't have that much trouble. The translation came back in about two seconds and said: "Bite me!" Surprised

(Just kidding, Virginia.)

I hope so JD. The word was before the season started was that he was in his 8th year and this year he had to be bowl eligible (and I mean better than 6 and 6 like last year), and win the bowl game. I am an alumnus of Maryland so I support them as much as I can. But I must confess this year's team has me completely confused. How do you beat Cal and other ranked teams and lose to Middle Tenn.State? They beat the ranked teams that are favored to beat themand lose when they are favored. I don't understand that dynamic.

Who knows why that is, Ron? Last time I covered a football game at Maryland, Jerry Claiborne was still the head coach - and nobody ever doubted what HIS mindset was on any given day. And even if we did doubt it, most of us weren't brave enough to ask him. Laughing

We've strayed way off topic now. Back to that upcoming County Council meeting.

Art, do you have any thoughts on how this soap opera is going to play out?

Claiborne was good for Maryland football. I think he can be credited with moving the football program into the modern era.

How about basketball? Did you cover Lefty Drissell (sp?)?

You are right about Ralph's health. His size worries a lot of folks.

Same as it always does..Bob tries to get info, only to have time called on him and nothing gets resolved.

Yep, covered Lefty many times, including in the "Greatest Game Ever Played" - the 103-100 overtime win by N.C. State in the finals of the 1974 ACC Tournament. Two of the best ACC teams ever in my book.

Maryland had Tom McMillen, Owen Brown, Mo Howard, John Lucas, Len Elmore in the starting five (Tom Roy, who still sucks, also played and scored one point); N.C. State had David Thompson (the greatest ACC player I ever saw), Tom Burleson, Monte Towe, Tim Stoddard and Mo Rivers, along with Phil Spence and Mark Moeller.

I remember the night clearly, though, not because it was a great game, but because the game ran late and it's the only time I ever "almost" missed a deadline. Danged overtime nailbiters!

JD there is a lot I'd like to ask. But I need to not Highjack Art's thread. I think I may attend the meeting on the 18th. This one may be interesting.

I still am curious as to where Art got his info from?

Nomadron,

You are free to hijack my threads anytime. I am enjoying the conversation, although I know nothing about football.

Concerning the Council agenda, I requested and received a hardcopy from the Council Clerk’s office.

JDTippett,

The situation with Mr. Joey Preston is very hard to read. It appears that all sides have mixed feelings, contradicting thoughts, and many voices. In addition, the council meeting agenda of November 18 does not reveal any clues.

Off topic, and more interesting than Joey "Bowden" Preston: The best coach in the ACC is Georgia Tech's Paul Johnson. In the SEC, its Vandy's Bobby Johnson. Clemson gets that guy, and I will worry more than liberal Republican on Primary Day.

Go here and read what it is used for

Art probably has access to a press package or a Councilman's package. They are delivered the Friday before the meeting. It should be up on the web site. Call Angie Stringer and ask her where the information is on the web. That's part of her job. She is not trained in web page building by her own admission.
