This is to all of the mods. I support moderation on the forum. But I think things are starting to get a little carried away.  

If you ban someone for saying "Bite me", what would you do if someone used the lyrics from the very popular country song "Kiss this"? I read the postings several times. I know you will disagree but I thought yankeefan's and prevail's post to ibvirginia was a joke. I did not see any malice in it at all. I mean look at his/her wording. It was a play on words from a previous post. Besides most of the exchange was with prevail. So how do you ban yankeefan and not prevail. (I don't think either should be banned.)

I also think this banning someone until they grovel to the moderators is overkill. If you collectively think someone has crossed the line a bit, give them a warning and then give them a 3 day timeout with an automatic re-instatement. Then if they continue to transgress ban them and make them appy to come back.

Just my opinion.

One more thing I would like to say as long as I'm climbing out on this limb. The detailed explanation of how the moderators were picked pointed out the fairness of two liberal, two conservative, and one neutral made up the group in charge. I would point out that every one of those chosen are at most pro-Preston and at the least neutral-Preston. Most of the posts on this forum now involve the pros and cons of JP. Don't you think in fairness someone who does not agree with the five of you on JP should be included?

ibvirginia I do not doubt your sincerity. I did not understand his/her banning was due to the revealing of names. I was pointing out that in my opinion "Bite me" was not a good reason to ban someone. Because it sure seemed that his banning occured just after that post. T

Nomadron, go back and read this entire thread from the start. In fact, go back and read Yankeefan's blog, including all posts over the past few weeks. The "Bite me" to two different moderators may have been the catalyst, but it wasn't the reason. It was originally said after a polite request from a moderator to stop playing games with the identities of members.

Let's sum it up: All posters are asked to refer to other members by their screen names and to refrain from guessing what their real identities are. THAT APPLIES TO EVERYBODY.

No ban is permanent until and unless the person behind that screen name absolutely refuses to abide by the rules. That's why there is an appeals process.

As for being pro-Preston, if anybody wants to go back to the archives (can we still do that?), you'll notice that JDTippett was questioning Preston's actions within two months after joining this forum back in June of 2006. I have questioned his honesty regarding the old Tri-Counties Landfill project, the openness and honesty of Anderson County administration under him, expenditures of taxpayer funds for family and employee meals in Myrtle Beach, oversight of credit expenditures, and JP's attitude toward those he works for and those he serves.

I've defended him against intrusions into his personal life, and I've blasted those who would draw his family and other non-public figures into their war against him. I've also said it makes sense to buy him out of his contract for a sum of one year's salary and benefits if he'll agree to that, rather than put the county and the taxpayers through a long, protracted legal battle that may wind up costing far more.

I guess you could say I'm neither pro- nor anti-Preston. My issues are openness, honesty and common-sense government, not vinidictiveness and the complete personal destruction of political opponents.

In any event, IBVirginia says she isn't pro-Preston, and she actually hasn't had a lot to say here about the issues. JDTippett is far from pro-Preston, but he isn't going to join any lynch mobs because that's really not the way we should do things in America. Art Kaldas, I believe, has said he thinks it would be for the bests if a way could be found for Preston to move on and allow the current open wounds to heal. So that's at least three of the five who wouldn't shed a tear if Anderson County has a new administrator six months or a year from now.

I would hardly call that a "pro-Preston" panel of moderators. Seems fairly balanced to me.

Prevail, IBVirginia didn't say that here, and unless she said it in a private message, you've misread something. Besides, the fact that you're still posting today indicates to me that nobody took anything you said as a serious threat. PAPPY's admonishment about threats to forum members, I think, was intended to be just a general warning.

You need to know that at least two of the forum administrators actually have been physically threatened or subjected to efforts at intimidation by other forum members, including one in a previous incanration here under another screen name. One other administrator was forced to endure a series of vile personal attacks of the type that have no place in public debate.

We are serious about this. Verbal warnings in cyberspace, bans from a particular forum because of bad behavior - those things don't physically harm anybody. Revealing personal infomation about posters who choose to remain anonymous can cause harm because, believe it or not, we have had (and probably still have) some members who cannot differentiate between cyberspace and real life and who do represent a real threat.

You, of all people here - having been targeted yourself several months ago - should understand this.
