Can I share todays thought=provolking moment? Thanks, I will anyway.
During an event honoring Vets this morning, we met Ret. Air Force Capt. Leonard Ranch, whom shared some stories about his time in the service of this country. Joining the military on the anniversary of Japanese attacks ( 12/7/42) he wasn't old enough to be a soldier yet, and his father paid off a Opthamologist to "fail him" so he didn't get shipped off to foreign theatres of combat. Unfettered, he still went in as a cadet to learn to fly fighters. Having made it in, he fought directly against the Luffwaffe over Germany, performed protective missions over England and helped train others. Eventually he also fought in the Korean conflict where he earned ACE status as a fighter pilot. During one of his numerous missions near the 38th parrallel, he was shot down during a straffing mission in a valley enclave by cross fire. His F-86 hit the ground at nearly 300 MPH and hit straight in. By grace of God he did not die, but was badly injured. An ARMY helecoptor rescued him before Korean infantry could capture him. Brought to an actual MASH hospital, he endured three head surguries ( all without needed anesthesia as it was used by field medics) and demanded return to service. Awarded the Purple Heart for his valor and service, Capt. Ranch was tearful describing his comrades and missions. He urged the youth to honor this nation with their patriotic duty to serve and protect.
It was a pleasure and honor to speak and meet Capt. Ranch today.
