Reach out on Veterans Day

The posters here often don't log on every day. So I thought I would post this a little early so all veterans on here could see it.

This year if at all possible I would like the veterans in the community to reach out to their fellow veterans. I would also ask them reach out to the families of those that are currently serving, and to the families that have lost a loved one in the current conflict. Sometimes just letting them know that someone who has "been there-done that" and made it through will bolster their morale.

Once in uniform we considered each other brothers and sisters... Let us never lose that bond.

It was nice to see that AIM devoted a good bit of space in this morning's paper to Veterans with some good articles.

While I will agree that we should thank all our brave fighting men who both now, and in the past have stepped up and defended our country, I think we should ask ourselves this one question, since the Korean War do you think our loss of young lives, has been worth what our government has tried, and failed to accomplish. I for one do not, We lost in Vietnam,We quit in Desert Storm before the job was done, and we now have a President- Elect who says we should never have invaded Iraq, and he has plans to quit there and come home again. Has anyone ever given any thought to our troops staying home this time until we define just who our enemies are. If we did, I think we would probably end up fighting along our own borders.

The biker's group that was going to Richard Campbell Veteran's Home just went by.  It was really neat.  I could hear them at least a minute before they got to my house. I would say a least a hundred bikes.  Really great.  They were also really having a good time.  (Almost makes we want to get a bike-almost.)

I think Wyatt is rebuilding a small bike, maybe you could talk him into putting on a set of training wheels just for you. Then you could ride with Angel, and him.

People like you worry me almost as much as Obama. Do you ever have anything good to say about your country?

I love my country as much as you claim to, but I am also very concerned by what I see going on in Washington by our duly elected politicians. You would be too, if you weren`t so busy waving your flag, and trying to get people to believe all is well in America. You and others like you should look around we are on the verge of collapse, and you are part of the problem, with your street corner preaching. Get on the wagon that is carrying the people who want to really make a difference for our kids, and grandkids. The time for preaching is over, the time for work is about to begin. I plan on being part of the work force, do you?

I was wondering... Did you miss the question in that post? You have a way of not answering questions posed to you by going on a rant. So, do you have anything good to say about your country?

Thank you to my husband who served in Vietnam, my son who did and, my brother who still serves. Thank you for all  who have given their service or their lives. The sacrifices of our military both current and past, give us a land where we can all vote without fear of being killed.

Let's not forget that the traveling Vietnam memorial is coming to Clemson this week.

"We quit in Desert Storm before the job was done,"

Our "job" was to liberate Kuwait, what part of that job did we not complete?

The part Bush JR. has us involved in now, and for the last five years, or haven`t you noticed. The part his father didn`t have the stomach for, and the part that JR. underestimated, and lied to us about.

Yes, at one time in the history of America, we made goods that no other country could match, we were the land of opportunity, we were one of the most wealthy nations on Earth, our military was the strongest, and the best equippedin the world, we had more, and better paying jobs than any other nation, we had a population of millions who would rather fight than to hear anyone say anything agains`t our nation, or any that sided with us. we believed in one GOD, I could go on and on,but I think you get the general idea. That was once-- A long time ago.But then I was very proud

I noticed when I left, Kuwait was liberated, which is what I was told our job was before I boarded a plane in Cherry Point. We ended "the mother of all wars" in days and brought autonomy to a nation. For that I'm proud of the job our country completed. Semper Fi, and God Bless America.

You might have been told a lie too, because we still have young men dieing every day in the same country, who by the way had no weapons of mass destructions, or chemicals, and who had nothing to do with 9-11, we should have invaded Saudi Arabia, but wait, I know you were told they were our friends weren`t you. If you consider Kuwait, a job well done, I`m glad I didn`t have to depend on you for anything important, such as my life. From your post name I would guess that you were a military policeman, am I right former cop?

I didn't know anyone thought Kuwait had weapons of mass destruction. If so, your right, I was lied to. As far as invading Saudi Arabia...well we were there.

I can assure you however, if my job was to protect your life I'd lose mine before you'd lose yours.

Nope I was not a military police. I was infantry. I was a cop after the military.

I disagree on who would be protecting who, I wouldn`t need your protection then, or now, I am very capabable of handling anything that comes my way. And I learned a long time ago if you depend on anyone, you end up friends, and friends will get you killed.By the way nobody invaded Kuwait, they invaded Iraq, to liberate Kuwait for the American Oil Company Interest, and for the Bush cronies. Are you sure you were there, or did you just read about it somewhere?

I may be wrong here, but wasn't it Iraq that had the weapons of mass destruction? (The ones that were moved before we invaded) What does Kuwait have to do with that?

Nobody invaded Kuwait????????????? Well dang I sure though Iraq did. Who invaded Iraq during Desert Storm? If I wasn't there someone sure went to a lot of trouble to make me believe I was there. Anyway, I never said you needed your life protected, you brought that that up. I guess we'll just have to disagree on this one.

Two different, but related, situations, Clemsonfan. In 1990, Saddam Hussein's forces invaded Kuwait. After a few U.N. resolutions and a vote by Congress to allow the United States to put together a coalition of more than three dozen nations, we launched a massive military operation in January '91 to drive the Iraqis out of Kuwait.

The U.N. mandate for that action called for us only to liberate Kuwait from Iraqi forces. Neither the U.N. nor the U.S. Congress authorized us to go beyond that mission, although to this day some question why we didn't go all he way to Baghdad and elimiante Hussein at that time - with our without U.N. or Congressional approval.

It was widely hailed as one of the more successful military operations of modern times. Nowadays, some revisionist historians attempt to discredit that war in their continuing efforts to discredit all things Bush, but they're playing loose with the facts when they do so.

Clemsonfan, I'm speaking of Desert Storm, and Desert Storm only.
