Geez, I am a Republican, and I cannot believe how they are giving Obama so much flack about a dog!!!  He wants shelter dog - great, I have one myself!  He said he is a "mongrel" - what American is not??? We are ALL descended from a polyglot of ancestors!!!!  He has a kid with medical complications, and that means a dog who is hypo-allergenic.  He will do his dead level best  to find the dog to fit the bill.

Any parent with a child with medical needs understands.  GET OFF THE MAN'S CASE ABOUT THE DOG, FOLKS!

Let those two little girls have a puppy that they can live with without making a major issue.   If you want to hit Obama about his views of economy, military, etc., fine.  But the man truly does seem to adore those two little girls and want them to be able to have a puppy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Come on folks, get off the guy's back regarding this one issue, please!

When you become the President-elect of the United States of America, you give up the right to expect anyone to take it easy on you,or your family. Just ask Carter, or Clintons daughters. I think the worst is yet to come.

I noted his caring and honesty about adopting a dog from a shelter, and with that small gesture my mind was made up that Obama is more than just a figurehead, but has a heart.

Mr O may have already explained this.  Why is he just rescuing an animal now?    Does every family make a show of rescuing an animal as they enter the White House?  Guess I must have missed it in the past.  It just seems like there is a lot of theatrics surrounding this man.

You are confused.

I would guess the kids have been asking for a dog for some time and in a weak moment he made that promise. It is quite a responsibility to own any pet and in a busy household nearly impossible to meet the pet's needs. With the move to the White House the girls will have limitations that are not imposed on all children their age. Having a pet will give them much joy and companionship as well as teaching them responsibility.

They may not be able to find a shelter dog as one child has allergies. It does show that they are aware of the over population of dogs and cats caused by irresponsible pet owners and wish to do their part.

All the theatrics seem to be coming from your blog.

Pet, you must be confused.  Since when are my statements a blog.  Since you don't mind criticism, let me say you're a fool, if you think the timing of trying to rescue a dog is a mere coincidence. And I guess they suddenly found a  solution to the daughter's allergy, right. And please justify calling what I said theatrics. Seems to me you don't know who or what you're talking about.

Right on confused, you go get them girl, let the whole world know you an`t buying this malarky about a doggy from the pound, for anything other than a political ploy.

Actually, having a dog in the White House can be quite dangerous.

Just last week, one of President Bush's dogs bit a reporter from the Reuters News Agency, and there was some fear that it could lead to some sort of nasty infection. Fortunately, the White House veterinarian has reported that, so far, the dog seems to be okay - although he is undergoing a series of shots as a precautionary measure. Laughing

Lets all hope he doesn`t bite the President,I don`t think shots would make any difference. The dog would be terminal. But on the bright side it might take everyone`s mind off the economy.

Ladies & Gentleman and the one are neither:  It has always been a fact that whom lived in the White House had to own a DOG. It has been that way for the last 12 President's or so. It's a WHITE HOUSE thing.

Remember this topic, want to remind me about my theatrics again.  When does it end? Next the toilets will become an issue.  Sorry, but it's getting ridiculous.
