Ed and Queen,
I think we ought to make a wager on that now. Best dinner in town to the winner in four years. Anyone else want to join us?
We will have to put up with your guy for FOUR years, Petunia! We shall see about the other 4 in 2012! [image]

Mitt Romney in 2012! I am saving my signs!
Count me in on dinner!
Worked for the guy. Liked him. Mc Cain would have given us a run for the money with that choice.
I don't know Queen. I'm hearing some very interesting stuff about Welch's possible future in journalism. An unconfirmed rumor is that with AIM's continuing demise, a bi-weekly or tri-weekly paper might be in the offing. If it is, rumor has it that Welch's name would be high up on the masthead. I also know for a fact that he was asked by someone at the Independent (name withheld) to consider the managing editor's job.So, maybe the Williamston Journal will be rid of him. They won't like it, but it could happen.

Stan started all these rumors. Could it be that the WJ has tired of him, as other publications have in the past?

We missed on this choice. He's an expert debater and quality man and candidate. However, it seems to me that it was setup for a democrat to win for lots of reason, war, economy, world view, Bush haters.
I know how unsettling it might be to hear Obama is getting security briefings but the job is his and he better start understanding what he got into. Thank God for Colin Powell. With no Rumsfeld to hinder his skills we can possibly have a better outcome. At least there won't be that quick withdrawal Obama first suggested. Powell's influence was heard earlier than I realized. That should have been obvious when he began to make sense about the war and foreign policy. It's nice to have Powell back where he can safeguard our country. He is a cautious wise man.
I agree, Queen. It's a shame to see thelocal daily struggling so, even though newspapers everywhere are feeling the impact of the web and its electronic offspring. But in all honesty, AIM has brought this on themselves by toadying up to the county administration in exchange for all that advertising revenue. Same with AnMed.
Well, the region continues to evolve and time will tell what happens! The better half has been quite disgusted with the Anderson Indep-Mail for its increasing decrease in size. We have noticed that the Anderson Journal seems bigger than the AIM at times. I hate to see the local paper not be a daily edition. I have gotten rather accustomed to it after 50+ years of the Anderson newspaper each morning.-the-queen
On top of that, one of their own employees has reportedly filed a lawsuit against them for fudging their circulation numbers, which are the basis for advertising rates, by the way. Those numbers are audited (what a concept!) each yearby the appropriate professional organization, and certified. Lying about them is damn serious business in the newspaper world.
Another employee has filed suit against Butch for kidnapping because he allegedly wouldn't release her from his office when she demanded to leave. Don't take my word for it folks. Go to the courthouse and check for yourselves.
And the tri-weekly wouldn't be AIM, Queen. The talk I'm hearing is about a whole new player.
Amy, you are just like your hero, Joey ray. you'd rather climb a tree and tell a lie than stand on the ground and tell the truth. I must admit, I do feel sorry for the tree.Stan started all these rumors. Could it be that the WJ has tired of him, as other publications have in the past?

Yeah, too bad he's so hen pecked his wife wouldn't let him run for president. I would have voted for him.
Say what you want about Obama but he is smart. He knows to have that second term he will have to stay in the middle ground of politics. So he will be a semi-conservative liberal.<g> That is pretty much where the rest of the voters are. The fringe, ultra-liberal and extreme right wingers just don't get they are too far out there for the mainstream population. If in two years Obama has gone too far, the elections will slide toward the right to slow the "liberal" activiy. Petunia, he'll have to earn any break he gets. I say this as plainly and honestly as I can. For the first time in my life, I truly doubt whether a president or president elect has the best interests of this nation at heart. And I will take considerable convincing otherwise. I think anyelective process that require the expenditure of a billion dollars to seek office is screwed beyond repair, and I think the media was complicit in their desire to see Obama elected. When I hear people who still believe that anyone can be president in this country, or that our elections can't be bought,it makes milk shoot out of my nose.
Give the guy a break Dune! I even gave GWB a break. He certainly proved my point that he wasn't up to the job. Still can't believe he won the second four years. Guess you will have to put up with our choice for the next eight. [image]-petunia1
I think Obama is a deeply flawed person and a deeply flawed candidate,so excuse me if I keep my guard up for a while. We would all do well to do so.Having said that, I hope I'm wrong. I can easily live with the normal swings of the political pendulum and I can certainly understand the urge to distance this country from the poor performance of the Bush administration. Those aren't the concerns I speak of.I had many policy issues with McCain as well, but I never doubted his intentions and his loyalty to this nation.
I truly doubt Obama's heart, and that doubt will be hard to remove.
I think that if Mr. Obama governs from the middle we will have him for two terms. If on the other hand he governs with the left wingers like Pelosi he will be in for only one term. BO has a choice where he will either follow his promise to govern all the people fairly and from the middle, or he will prove himself to be another carter.
Just a thought now that Mr. Obama has been elected can we now get rid of hypenated American labels. Can we all just be Americans now?

Mitt Romney never had a chance. I worked hard for Fred Thompson (probably harder than he did). Unfortunately, he will probably be to old in 2012. I have a few Thompson signs for nostalgia.
Noeline,it would be nice if such labels could be dropped, but there is still money to be made from divisiveness, and those still eager to make it.

P.S. Noeline,
If Obama had given any sign that he even knows where the political middle is, much less an ability to govern from it, he would have lost the election because the Dems would have left him twisting in the wind. They are not interested in moderation.

Dunebuggy, I think we have to give him a chance, we cannot turn into the same kind of crazies that the Bush Bashers became. I mean since day one those people tried to undermine Bush and it devided this country, and did a tremendous amount of damage to America's image across the world. So lets give the guy a break and see what happens. I mean we get to vote in 4 years and give our thumbs up of down. If it gets to bad we have other options.
Merrymac,
I wasn't rushing to prove you wrong, but your comment made me look like I didn't know what I was talking about, so I wanted to clear it up. My understanding of that section of the SC Code is that municipalities chan choose from a few options including those requiring a plurality or a majority.
I agree with you that there are no run-offs in general elections in this state except for some municipalities. Also, I am sure that Williamston has run-offs in general elections because I have been involved in several. We had 2 run-offs in 2002, 1 run-off in 2004, and 1 run-off in 2006.
Yes, I am still a junior lawyer in training as I think SSHM referred to me awhile back. They haven't kicked me out yet, but they don't take too kindly to Republicans so they might get rid of me before its over.
Well, we really don't have any choice but to give him a chance, noeline. But I remain wary of this guy and the free pass he was given by the mainstream media. I go by instincts a good bit and my instincts about this guy and the concerted effort to coronate him make the hair stand up on the back of my neck.I think he's going to be exactly the radical he appears to be.

Might be possible but I have to check with my betting consultant (I learned after I made a couple of bets & lost both of them).
