In the school board elections, when a person is elected in early November, the new member takes office that month at the next meeting.
Why if the election for County Council is in November, must we wait until January for the change?

Are you proposing a universal day/date for beginning all elected terms in this country Queen? Interesting idea maybe. Anyone else have any thoughts on such.-merrymacsc
Because the terms for county council are set by statute or the constitution and that's what it says. Same as why the President of the US takes office on January 20 after the election in November and the Congress takes office on January 3.The county auditor and treasurer do not take office until July 1(the beginning of the fiscal year). No, I was not proposing universal dates. I was just curious as to why. If it is law or statute, that answers the question. Thanks! It just seems that the school board method takes the wait out and lets the newly elected person take over the reins of the position immediately, and might be helpful in many ways.
