EXCLUSIVE: Sanford Petitioned President To Prevent Off-Shore Drilling
http://www.palmettoscoop.com/2008/10/13/sanford-petitioned-president-to-prevent-offshore-drilling/

Gee Governor,

It sure is nice to know you have the state's best economic interests in mind by making sure your view from you home on Sullivans Island ISN'T blocked by an OIL RIG.

Stupid libertarian parading about as a Republican . . .

He seems to have a case of NIMBY disease.

I think you're right, and there's a lot of that going around, Virginia. This one's almost as funny as when Ted Kennedy, after pushing for renewable energy sources for decades, balked at a windmill array that was to be put just offshore near Hyannis Port.

Nothing new here. People say we need more prisons, but let somebody suggest one in their area and suddenly the tune changes. We humans are an interesting and selfish bunch, aren't we?

Yep, NIMBY disease is definitely a non-partisan affliction.  Whatever keeps the oil rigs off the coast is alright with me though.  I do love those windmills.  I looked at literally putting one in my backyard, but on the wind chart you had to be a 4.0  to have enough wind to regularly generate energy and Anderson was a 0.5.  So, we went with solar.

And I realized that human beings were an interesting bunch when, as a small child, I first saw a mullet.

I'm older than you, Virginia. I realized it when I saw my first beehive. Smile

You might have regretted the wind turbine in your back yard: Wind Turbine Syndrome

1) Sleep problems: noise or physical sensations of pulsation or pressure make it hard to go to sleep and cause frequent awakening.
2) Headaches which are increased in frequency or severity.
3) Dizziness, unsteadiness, and nausea.
4) Exhaustion, anxiety, anger, irritability, and depression.
5) Problems with concentration and learning.
6) Tinnitus (ringing in the ears)

I think I have Wind Turbine Syndrome now!!  Laughing  Could be that drinking problem I've developed though.

Seriously, thanks for the article.  I'd never heard of that.

You forgot my favorite, Virginia: The pitiful squawks of hapless birds as they're chopped to pieces by those blades, which is enough to keep anybody awake nights. Cry

Peregrine falcon sandwich, anybody? It's not half bad. Tastes kinda like a spotted owl sandwich, and not nearly as gamey as bald eagle. Smile

I know its terrible! I love birds! Don't you have a pet bird? I seem to remember you saying that. Here is my baby...

Yes, I do have a pet bird, Virginia, but she only has one leg and one wing. Cry

A bird like that, you just don't eat all at once. Smile

Stop screaming, Virginia. I'm just joking around with you. Beautiful bird you have there, by the way. Mine's a conure (really, with both legs and both wings intact), which would only make, like, one small sandwich anyway. But in a survival situation, at least the tiny little omelets would help out ...

You know that noise that Marge Simpson always makes when Homer says something or does something inappropriate. I just made that noise, JD. Wink

JD I saw you mentioned building more prison. Being a leatherneck, I know you've spent some time on ships. I've always thought they should float those mothballed ships out to sea and make floating prisons out of them. Not in a neighborhood, just try to escape, and if there is an uprising, just kill the power and wait it out. Nothing like general quarters on ship to make you appreciate fresh air and lose the attitude.
