Are we on the way to becoming a Banana Republic?

Just saw on Fox News that a county in Alabama has more registered voters than they have people 18+ years old.  I think I saw where several counties voter records have been seized by the State attorney general.  To prevent us becoming a banana republic, lets chop the thumb off all voters as they vote. (Joke, people).  So if you want to vote twice, leave two thumbs.  That's for folks wanting to give their candidate two thumbs up (^ (^

It would really be funny if it wasn't so serious -- and sad.  My guess is the winner of the election will not be determined unti 09.

Vote early, and vote often!

Ed,  If you think there will be voter fraud in SC I suggest that you call and volunteer to be a poll manager and take the on line course.

I have been working on it for days.  I believe that the polls could be open until nine PM to get everyone voted that is in line. Expect long lines. There will be many challeges and this will slow down the process.  If at all possible go to the Ellections Office and vote early.  On of the best reasons for voting early is being over 65. Being out of town or unable to vote due to your job requirements and quite a few other reasons. If you are disabled or cannot stand in line for a lengthy period you can get curbside voting.

Oh, and please everyone make up you mind on the Referendum before entering the voting booth.  You can not read all that information in the alloted 3 minutes

Thanks, Flower.  I worked a poll two years back.  Enlightening, to say the least.  I'm not sure we'll have the problems in SC as they're anticipating in Ohio.  Still, I shudder to think elections in this country can possibly become so corrupted.  But, if it can happen locally, we know it can happen on a national level, too.

Ed,

The good side of this problem and that of registration fraud in the Acorn mess is that they were discovered before voter fraud could occur. I can understand cynics saying that this is the tip of an iceberg, but perhaps not.

If other states are like SC, a voter must produce proof of residence ( either voter registration card or driver license.

Ann and I have been poll managers for 20 years and never had a problem.

Hank,

I know that is not in SC. I missed that story for other states. If true, that is wrong.

Can you provide a link ?

Hankey say:

"But Pappy its your party that would like to make it so you don't have to show any, ANY id to vote."

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Would that also be the party that wants to allow illegal aliens to vote?

Hank,

I just happened to be reading an article about this and thought I would post some of that article and a link, being that you asked Hankey for it...

...Supporters of the law, most of them Republicans, say requiring a state photo I.D. card is a prudent step toward curbing voter fraud. They say the requirement helps restore confidence in the voting process by removing the potential for fraud.

Opponents of the law, mostly Democrats, view voter I.D. requirements as a deterrent that disproportionately affects poor, minority, and elderly voters, who more often lack the required forms of I.D.--and who also tend to be Democrats...

tech support,

Thanks for the info. I believe ID must be  shown at the time one votes, as is done in SC.

SC issues a voter registration card when the voter registers. This is not a photo ID but does have an address and name that is compared with the voter list and a signature that is compared to the voter's signature when he signs the voter roll. It is free.

I wonder why all states don't issue a free voter registration card. This would counter charges that some states charge for a picture ID if the voter does not have a driver liscence.

I am not worried. I am sure both sides are working as hard as they can to steal this election.
