I am unaware of any character assassinations of Kevin Bryant's character. While I don't agree with many of Bryant's choices, as far as I know he is a honest caring young man. I was very impressed with the knowledge he shared with us at the last debate about the way things work in the Legislature in Columbia.

I am a fiscally Conservative Democrat and I believe that the best way to win elections is by not going negative. I do not have to defend my support of Marshall Meadors and Tom Dobbins. They are both well respected members of community and have given a lifetime of service to us all.

I believe that Barack Obama should be referred to by that name only. The misleading fact that he is now practicing the Muslim faith should be left out of political disagreements here.

The truth, dearest Suzie Creamcheese is this:
1.) You are attempting to blur NATIONAL PARTY PLANKS with LOCAL PARTY PLANKS AND ISSUES.
2.) Locally, Dr. Meadors seeks to raise South Carolina's cigarette tax by 50 cents. Currently, South Carolina sits FIFTY-FIRST (51st) in tax rates on cigarettes. That's DEAD LAST in the nation folks. His proposal to raise that tax brings us in line with other states. Hell, the home to Tobacco Road charges 45 cents on their smokes. (Source: [url])
3.) It's not a matter of "gay marrage," as it is more an issue to ending DISCRIMINATION. The Republican Party, by taking a stand opposing same-sex unions, is active in practicing DISCRIMINATION. By having Kevin Bryant push a constitutional amendment to define marriage as one man and one woman, he is attempting to permanently ensconce the 21st Century equilivant to Jim Crow. The difference: It's not African-Americans this time, but people of a different sexual orientation. Don't even get me started into how this crosses the line between church and state. Are you, Suzie Creamcheese, for DISCRIMINATION? Do you run around with a sheet over your head, hmmm?
4.) Locally, Dr. Meadors seeks to create a safety net when it pertains to health care. If you actually take the time to read his campaign planks, you'll see where the tax money obtained from raising rates on smokes will be used to obtain matching federal dollars (if I recall ... $3 back for every $1 provided). This is something that is smart. How can you argue with a return-on-investment like that?
5.) As I recall, locally, abortion was not a campaign plank of either the doc or the pill pusher. However, can you or are you authorized to speak for every woman? Who the HELL gave you the right to make medical decisions for someone other than yourself? Because if you have the right to deny someone a medical procedure because of how you "feel," well, what can of worms have you opened up now?
The post card is in error. The post card highlights NATIONAL issues and NATIONAL party planks; not LOCAL issues and LOCAL party planks. Before you fire off and discuss loyalty to party and "having to pledge support because of "x" party," you'd better take a long hard look at who helped Reagan so many years ago AND who continue to help GWB today.

1. National party planks start at the local level. Look up how party planks are formed.

2. I agree the cigarette tax should be raised. Senator Bryant felt he could not vote for this, because he would benefit from the passage of the bill. He's right Meadors is ethically wrong on this issue. He would have to abstain as well, or come under ethics violations. Speaking of which, I heard a ethic complaint was just filed for not paying market rent on his headquarters which is not even in his district. What a bonehead!

By the way, this isn't the only tax increase the democrats are proposing. Meadors supports Jim Rex's statewide property tax inititive. What a major major mistake. In these tough economic times, we don't need another tax increase.

3. Kevin Bryant and 82% of those in Anderson County supported the marriage amendment. Go ahead pin it all on him. 82% is 82%. I would take it if I were running. It's not discrimination, it's constitutional law in South Carolina. If Meadors wants to err to the 18%, then so be it.

4. Medicaid is a great deal. You take $1.00 from me for medicaid and then you take another $3.00 from me and give it to medicaid. Remember, the gov't doesn't produce anything. That 3 to 1 ratio is my money.

5. Abortions are not medical decision. The decision to have an abortion is murder. Life begins at conception. And that fact is not above my paygrade. It is BHO's but not mine. Your choice ends when you jump into the sack and do your thing. The resulting life that is formed is not to be taken.

Meadors and the democrats support abortion on demand and that is wrong.

I agree with you on that, Wyatt. I mean, if we had to deal with real numbers, Obama would have to explain how he's going to cut taxes for 95 percent of all wage-earners even though 45 percent of all wage-earners don't pay any income taxes at all. All I know is that here in October, 2008 we Americans and South Carolinians find ourselves in a kind economic and diplomatic hell. We're in an unpopular war that has much of the world not liking us. We're in a historic economic downturn that has us not even liking each other. The question we all have to ask ourselves before we vote is this: Do we continue to dance with the morons who brought us to this party, or do we ease on to better times and find another way home? I believe that four years ago the Republicans convinced the majority of Americans that they were the best equipped to deal with the war and the economy. November 4th is our opportunity to give them a little feedback on how they're doing.

"1. Funny. The local Republican Party (ACRP) doen't match up or lock-in with the national party. I've seen first-hand how the ACRP crucifies individuals for not marching lock-step with THEIR views, not the views of the party. Folks like Crowe, Wilson, et al call Pragmatic Republicans (folks from out west - CA, UT, NV, etc) liberal democrats. I keep telling you to learn your political history and you keep shrugging it off. Here, take note of this: Every time the Republican Party has been successful at winning the White House, in the post WWII era, it happened with a Pragmatic Republican on the ticket. The exceptions: 1960 - Lost with Nixon (California) and 1988 - Won with Bush (Texas). What is a Pragmatic Republican? Look west, past Texas, and find out for yourself.
2. The TRUTH Suzie Creamcheese, the TRUTH PLEASE. Bryant, by taking a pass on voting for that legislation (cig tax), was able, in good faith, to take a sizable campaign contribution from RJR Reynolds (yes - the company that makes cigs). Now if THAT isn't a clear-cut case of politics as usualy and/or the good 'ole boy system at play, I don't know what is.
3. You know Suzie - you wind the hands of time back far enough and I'd wager you'd find 82% of those in Anderson County supporting Jim Crow laws. Just because an overwhelming majority of people support something does not make it RIGHT.
4. Stop glossing over issues, Suzie. If I didn't provide that $1.00 from me, that $3.00 that was taken away in the form of FEDERAL taxation would go somewhere else. Might as well get BACK MY money so I can use it here in MY state.
5. Abortions ARE a medical decision. When a woman's life is placed in harms way (e.g., birth would equate to death of the mother), it is VERY MUCH a medical decision. I ask again: Who has deemed you THE authority to speak to every possible instance of abortion? As much as you and your ilk advocate keeping goverment out of our lives, you don't hesitate to deploy the army to the bedrooms and homes of consenting adults (this is the part where you go "oh wow - we are hypocrites are we not?"
Meadors DOES NOT support abortion on demand. Stop perpetuating LIES. If you can't speak to the ISSUES, why speak at all?

The forum is "liberal politics". I think that could mean all "liberal politics" on all levels of the nation. Ya think?

I think they should tax the h**l out of cigarettes. Make them 8.00 a pack and stop the industry. When people make a decision about smoking and feeding their families hopefully fewer people will smoke; that would mean in the long run - - fewer smokers which would mean - - less taxes.

I didn't say anything about abortion SSHM - stupid really should hurt more so that whole tirade is a waste of your finger exercise. I asked about who healthcare would encompass. Of course we all ready pay for healthcare for illegal’s, it's called the emergency room and write offs. Those in turn are passed on to the insured by higher costs.

The thing I love about screaming “liberals” is if you ask a question they don’t really want to answer - - you get rants that have nothing to do with the question. Dr. Meadors can discuss these issues intelligently otherwise he would sound like you and not have gotten as far as he has with his campaign. <gasp> I think it’s called intellectual discussion but that is lost on you and a few others who simply resort to dumb personal attacks when challenged.
