What happened to .. McCain's 'FLAG PIN' ?
I think Mr. McCain felt that the Obama campaign has become so unhinged over their inability to understand or deal with Sarah Palin that he would stop wearing a flag pin so they could focus on SOMETHING and get back to discussing real issu....oh, look, a rabbit!

I guess that response was meant as 'a joke' since I see no other hope for it.
By removing his flag pin he is atrracting attention to himself only and not redirecting it to his VP pick who, in fact, does wear a flag pin.
Any other suggestions ..?

It was clear that the Obama campaign was humiliated by having the Republicans do what the Democrats were unable to do (put a woman on the ticket), so McCain tossed them a softball to see if they can hit anything.
Conversation in Obama's campaign headquarters:
strategist 1: What are we gonna do? She's a woman, married, religious, a mother of 5, governor of an energy state, articulate, clever, and a moose hunter. She's making a fool of us just by existing.
strategist 2: I know, lets make a collage.
A flag pin is completely divorced from any formal protocol or flag code designed to assure the proper respect for the flag. It is a piece of jewelry, just like a Rotarian's pin.
John MCCain has clearly honored his flag with nearly a half century of service.By doing so, he has earned the right to wear a flag pin or not wear one, as he sees fit.

Fussing over not having on jewelry? Get real! John McCain spent years in a POW camp, when he could have had a get out of jail free card by just saying I want it!!!! I would rather have a candidate with decency, honor, and guts than the gutless wonder the Democrats are running.
John McCain was NOT my first choice. But he is infinitely superior to the opposition.

Seems as though poor ole 'John the POW Hero' was wearing a pin and critisizing Obama for not wearing one in the beginning of this presidential race but now poor ole 'John the POW Hero and Underdog' isn't wearing one.
BTW: Other former POW's wear the flag pin proudly .. That must be because they were not heroes .. Right?
Are any of the reasons given above in the responses 'written in a code of flag pins' anywhere or is this all just more Republican hypebole?

No, I think it's insulting to call POWs "not heroes" because they "wear the flag pin proudly", but I wasn't going to belabor the point. I'm not aware of any "official links" that say that you are right.
But, if you believe that POWs are not heros just because they wear flag pins....that's certainly your right here in the US. I'm sure every one of those POWs would defend to the death your right to ridicule them.

Obviously you didn't serve in the armed services or you wouldn't be so flippant on this subject.

As for me, I enlisted out of high school in '45. You must be ashamed of your service to write that way about POWs.

And then I said: (this is what is known as 'Reverse Logic') ; "That must be because they were not heroes .. Right?"
Now I'll put it in simple terms ...
Since McCain is also a war hero (as are ALL pow's) then where does McCain get 'a free pass not to wear one' since 'all pow's are war heroes' and prefer to wear flag pins ?
The question was/is: Is there something written in military code, or any other official US code that states that McCain doesn't have to wear one. Or for that matter does anyone even have to wear one?
It seems hypocritical, to me, that McCain first wears one and critisizes Obama for not wearing one and then when Obama starts wearing a flag pin McCain stops wearing his.
Now, can y'all understand that or are y'all going to go ballistic on me again.
