Happy 50th Birthday

Mr. Hankey's applied for and received his membership credentials once again. If it makes this thread any less vexing (which it doesn't) I'm willing to just admit that his banning was misguided. It was intended to send a message that bombthrowing isn't very productive conversationally. And that we'd all like to see a slightly more kind, gentle environment here. (That doesn't mean wussy. Just respectful.)

Hank just happens to be (was?) a hilarious bombthrower that I like(d) having around. (P.S. Zn706 started out that way too and look what happened there ... He did more to poison this forum in the last six months than Prevail and Rino's peeing contests combined.)

Prevail, there's a post by Nick from August 25, 2008, under the topic "Time For Community Moderation To Begin" when Hankey's posting rights were restored. There was a second one noting that you and RINO had agreed to behave and you were being put back on active status, whlie Zn had refused to agree and was permanently banned. I'll keep looking for that post, although with all the unproven bull**** and wild allegations flying around here between the right-wingers and the left-wingers, I really don't see why I should have to pull up an old post from six weeks that everybody saw just to confirm something I said on this thread last night...

Hankey, usually it works, but sometimes it doesn't. I'm online at the moment, and not only does it NOT show a green dot on my avatar, it doesn't even show my avatar. Bugs. Go figure.

(EDIT: Wait! There it is. As soon as I hit "Submit" on this post, there was JDTippett with the green dot on the avatar. Maybe it only shows you're actively online if you actually DO something, like use a "thumbs up" or a "thumbs down" or post something.)

Yeah, Hankey,I see your name online now, complete with green dot. All I can do is assure you that feature works most of the time, but it has been kinda erratic lately. I didn't design the platform. A lot of the time, I don't even understand the platform.

If you're playin' with the feature because you want to see Mr. Hankey's name in lights, keep trying - it'll show up for you. If you're playin' with it to enforce RINO's lame threat that Nick, Lefora or the AIM has given me any "inside" information on who posts what here, give it up. They didn't.

That "Recently Online" feature is what has helped me figure out which screen names are using the "thumbs" option to deliberately undermine community moderation. There are some benefits to being an insomniac.

As for who you'll talk to for tech problems after Nick severs ties, I have no idea. Right now, he still has the keys to the car. Maybe he can get some tech-savvy non-moderator to help out with that task.

I think Nick tried to get that started in the AIM print edition, Hankey, but three of their editors threatened to jump off a tall building if they had to edit your stuff, so they dropped the idea.

Just kiddin' with you, Hankey. My guess is this IS your forum to tell everybody what you think.
