Let's see ... debate Obama, or go to Washington to look out for $700 billion in taxpayer money ...

Hmmmm .... POLITICS ... or doing the job as United States Senator .... What to do, what to do?

We'll have to see which one Oh Great Obama decides is more important.

Hey, Obama speech over my shoulder here. "There's a time for politics, and a time to rise above politics and do what's right for the country."

BUT ... the debate is "more important than ever ... so we can tell the American people where we want to take them ... "

Hmmmm. POLITICS ... or doing what's right for the country. POLITICS ...or doing what's right for the country.

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE: Obama just said he's told Congressional leadership that he will be there anytime he can be useful. Sooooooo ... if he's NOT there, does that mean he's USELESS? Wink

This is big. Can't imagine why Mc Cain didn't make a private appeal to Obama to suspend the campaign and the debate and leak it to the press. He left him self wide open for criticism and "wimping out" attacks. If they will just cancel each others vote if present for the vote, what is the big deal. They will receive the information about the situation and make their own points on the best legislation. (the world is listening) If they go back to being just a Senator their voice may not be heard. Their hands then with be tied by the legislation enacted for the next four years.

True, Petunia, but they've both talked about how they can forge bipartisanship on very tough issues that confront our nation. This is our chance to see if they really mean it or if it's all campaign rhetoric.

Citizen do you really believe the things you post? I would hate to see the world through your eyes.

So what's the big deal about either of them not attending the bail-out discussions between now and three days (Sat) from now?

They only have one vote each to cast,  along with many others casting their votes, and that will be done at the conclusion of the bail-out discussions which won't happen between now and three days from now.

America wants to, finally, see an 'Eyeball to Eyeball Debate' between these two presidential candidates.

Of course this would be a perfect opportunity for Palin to 'show her stuff' as a Vice President should the debate continue without McCain.

Laughing That's what Vice Presidents are expected to do when a President is unavailable isn't it?

But Palin is too busy 'hiding from the press' and trying to get her own Vice Presidential Debate softened up so as not to look like a fool in Biden's presence. (see news reports)

Cool  Now I'm waiting for dubya to declare a national emergency and order the debate to be cancelled for friday!

Both McCain and Palin have been slipping in the polls lately and they  both now have 'something to maintain' (not gain) by not going to any one-on-one debates against Obama and Biden.

Just my, usually correct, Opinion folks.

Stay Tuned ...

Maybe McCain's paying him back for nixing the idea of those joing townhall debates he floated a couple of months ago.

Citizen,

If John McCain walks across the Potomac, I guess you'll fly into a rant about how awful it is that the man can't swim.  Really.
Most analyists agree that debates don't really change voters minds.  Most of us already know for whom we're voting.  I think McCain's actions reinforces the theme of his campaign:  COUNTRY FIRST.  Remember "I'd rather lose an election than lose a war." sounds like he still feels that way--duty, honor, country.  IMHO,  McCain has done the right thing in the face of adversity.  He does his job, he fulfills his duty, he performs with honor and dignity.  Shame on you for even suggesting otherwise.

Citizen, are you that partian, that you can not see that McCain asked Obama to go with him to DC so they both could help hammer out a fair deal for the country. It's called bi-partianship. It seems to be what Obama and McCain are calling for, and right now a debate can be postponed without any one being hurt by it and it could help settle this thing much faster and better for all of us because they will be in DC working and the entire press will be there watching. Are you getting any of this?

By the way Petunia it was not released by the McCain camp until after Obama turned McCain down.

Smile Maybe you should vote for an anal-yist then.

Cool Like Obama said today:  A real President can deal with more than one crisis at a time.

News reports (not Faux News) say that Obama called McCain first and then while Obama was waiting for a reply McCain jumped the gun and made his 'seemingly patriotic' and unexpected announcement.

Time to wave your flags and beat your chests now.

It's  'Praise The Lord and Pass the Ammunition'  time now for all you McLame-ites.

I'm always happy to praise the Lord and pass the ammunition, Citizen, but I thought you Obamacans didn't like it when we cling to our guns and our religion.

Of COURSE a President of the United States needs to be prepared to handle more than one crisis at a time. But a U.S. Senator - that's another story. I mean, the Senate is still trying to pass legislation during the tenure of Franklin D. Roosevelt (1933-1945.) These things take time and a concentrated effort. Even if Obama shows up to vote "present" it'll be a welcome improvement to his recent record.

There's been talk that since the hearings are already underway that should either McCain and/or Obama show up now it will only hinder what progress has been made to date.

Past voting records have nothing at all to do with this current matter!

Why do republitards always want to obscure the topic when they are on the losing end?

BTW: I was hunting and trapping at the age of 14 and doing it on my own, thank you.

Being the GOP's nominee, Sen. John McCain is now the party leader. His leadership is critcally need. So many Republicans are against government interference in business that they may vote against it unless the party leader calls them together and rallies support.

Obama should be working just as hard on the economy as he is on being Prez.
