When I voted in the primaries there was a really old woman logging us in.  It took the gentleman in front of me several minutes to clarify that he was the jr and not the sr version of the same name.  Looking at him there was no way he could be the sr and have a son old enough to vote.  Then when I went up to vote she went to log me in as a man close to my name.  I may not be ultra feminine, but I've never been mistaken for a man.  So part of the problem may be that some of the old timers at the voting polls may need to be given another job.  So some of the problems may not be intentional, but still a problem.  Plus if you aren't enthusiastic about voting, it might stop you from going to the trouble again.

If you look deeply into election commission you will find the (Republican) operatives must be held responsible for such activities. WAIM, Wilderness OTA, and their Radical Hard Right Republican Executive Committeemen are all to blame.

ACORN? Anyone who participates in this is responsible and are making a mockery of the system. How is it our troops can't cast ballots from the war zone. They have a bigger stake in the outcome than most.

WAIM is involved in ballot fraud, do tell. How are they responsible? Sheesh

ACORN must be active here getting the dead to rise up and vote for Hussein Obama, who has poured nearly a million bucks into that socialist group. If Obama wins it will be with the millions of voters they have created from the dust.
TO HIS FOLLOWERS...VOTE SOCIALISM...VOTE OBAMA.

prevail,
I guess if one tells a lie often enough they hope it will stick. I refer to the Socialist tag on Obama in your comment.

One can make that label stick on McCain much easier.

Consider:McCain said," I consider myself as a conservative Republican, yet I view it to a large degree in the Theodore Roosevelt mold".

Teddy said;"The really big fortune, the swollen fortune, by the mere fact of its size, acquires qualities which differentiate it in kind as well as in degree from what is possessed by men of relatively small means. Therefore, I believe in a graduated income tax on big fortunes, and in another tax which is far more easily collected and far more effective, a graduated inheritance tax on big fortunes, properly safeguarded against evasion, and increasing rapidly in amount with the size of the estate".

Or consider the Earned Income Tax Credit ( EITC ). This 'redistribution of income' was signed into law by Republican President Gerald Ford. It was expanded by McCain's other favorite President, Ronald Reagan.

President Reagan said that it was; "the best anti-poverty, the best pro-family, the best job creation measure to come out of Congress."

So, whatever criteria you use to make baseless accusations against Obama could be applied to T. Roosevelt, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan and the man himself, Senator McCain.

Do you consider them Socialists ?

Confused,

You are absolutely right to complain and you should have taken your observations to the poll  clerk. The clerk runs the show at each precinct,

You are also correct that there are too many old timers working as poll managers. I know, I have worked as one for almost 20 years.

The problem is that few younger people volunteer. The pay is great, $60 for a day that starts at 6 AM and concludes around 8PM. Probably later this year.

As the ‘greatest’ generation slowly fades, the ‘gimme’ generation has failed to take their place.

If you offered to be a poll manager, confused, the election board would jump at your offer. How about it ?

You are not Stanley that is for certain. LOL Stan would have  managed a much more eloquent argument against Obama but no less effective.
$700,000.00 for Berlin in lighting  and sound. Where did all that money come from that cannot be traced. Still he manages to figure what his aunt who is an illegal alien paid and return that amount to her. He is amazing. I have no doubt my lines will be tapped and my income held above "middle class" as that dollar  amount is set and reset for tax increases.

The penny tax will at least be spent here.

Pappy: "As the ‘greatest’ generation slowly fades, the ‘gimme’ generation has failed to take their place."

Actually, Pappy, my generation has been repeatedly called the "Volunteer Generation" for the record number of volunteering hours. But really, you can't judge an entire generation of people as anything. For example, I know "greatest generation" folks who are real jerks who still hate black people, are homophobic, and so it's difficult to apply anything to a group as large as a generation. I think the reason that poll work has largely been done by older folks is that the training and election happen during the hours that people who aren't retired have to work.

ibvirginia,

Well said !

I broke my own rule of ' never generalize'.

You do mention a factor in getting new volunteers to work the polls. However, it has been my observation that the same people work year after year. Certainly there must be new retirees in the last 20 years. ( this is not to disparage those few newcomers, but there are just not enough of them. )

Pappy, I would be happy to be a poll manager.  Unfortunately, I usually am out of town the first two weeks in November or leave right after I vote. ( This year delayed til Dec)  In my case I must be from the "procrastination" generation because that seems to be my main problem.

Well, I noticed that there were new poll workers (volunteers) and many of them (the newer ones) were young people.

Apparently, from what I was told, some teacher was handing out 20-25 points of extra credit for working the polls today. Interesting, I must say ... interesting.

Rep, see you once again had to flap those lips without really having anything to say.  Seems to be a nasty habit of yours.

My little old lady was just passing out info today and she seemed to enjoy it- which is what counts.
