I voted for Cynthia McKinney, but only because if we voted today it wouldn't count. Smile

That's a lot of "if's" G-P. Are all of those odd-party candidates even on the ballot in South Carolina?

John McCain and Sarah Palin.

I take my responsibility seriously and vote for those who mean the difference in safety and security in my future, that of my child, and my future grandchildren.  I am serious about this.

Oh and JD, you've proved what I've been saying for a while now.  A vote for any other candidate besides McCain will elect Obama.

You're absolutely right, Merrymac. HOWEVER, keep in mind that nobody in his or her right mind Embarassed would really vote for Cynthia McKinney for President, regardless of party label. (I was kidding - don't do that when the future of the country is really on the line.)

As for the others, I suspect the Constitution canidate and the Libertarian (Barr) will strip votes away from the civil libertarian extremists from the left over the Patriot Act and other issues, while Ralph Nader will get his usual handful of votes from his Earth in the Balance gang of radicals.

It comes down to McCain versus Obama. If that's the case, I just LOVE The Queen's scenario.

Having said all that, Obama will win The Cocklebur's unofficial Presidential preference poll. There's little doubt in my mind about that.

This poll only establishes the political leanings of those on these forums.

Obviously there are more Republicans than Democrats.

That probably explains why certain posters receive 'thumbs down' every time they post something that reflects their political stance be it worthy or not.

Citizen, posters from both the left and the right have been getting their posts hidden for no reason lately, and it has little or nothing to do with WHAT is being said. It's all about WHO is saying it. I would hope our loyal webdaddy is going to find a way to put a stop to that foolishness.

OPINIONS, no matter how right-wing or left-wing they are, should not be offensive to the point that they are squelched. People who don't want to hear opinions that are counter to their own probably shouldn't venture out or read internet postings.

Of course, HOW you state an opinion may have some bearing on whether it gets a thumbs up or a thumbs down sometimes.

The example I've always given involved how to talk to a lady who is not, uh, appealing to the eyes.

You can say, "My dear, when I look into your eyes, time stands still" and she probably won't censor you with a slap. She may even be flattered.

On the other hand, if you look at he and say, "Lady, you're face is ugly enough to stop a clock" - you WILL pay a price.

You've said exactly the same thing, but you get two different outcomes - one thumbs up, and one thumb in the eye.. Laughing

You seem to be the one here that makes more objective posts than anyone else JD.

And I commend you for that ...

To me the bottom line is, if on February 2, 2009 we had another Sept 11 event, who of the 2 candidates would you want to be President?  All of the other issues get a lot of useless lip service that gets little follow through.  That one question is the only one that counts for me.  I can control most of the other things myself , one way or the other.  That's why I voted for John McCain in the primary.  He's not perfect, but it's been slim pickin's.

There are those on here that I do not like what they say, and even more I don't like how they say it.

Bur rather than posting "I agree or I disagree" it seems the thumbs up or thumbs down is an easy way to show approval or disapproval. I thought that was what is was for, in addition to covering some of the more disgusting comments.

You are exactly right.  All of these promises being made on both sides will most likely never see the light of day.  But if we do get attacked again, there's no doubt that we have to take action.  When I say action, I don't mean that we need to sit down and talk to them about it, which would be the Democratic/Obama way.

I gotta agree with that. While all the other items hold different degrees of importance to me, defense of our country is what matters to me most. All the talk and treaties, and sanctions mean nothing to folks who WANT to die for a cause. I hear over and over how "Bush made the world hate us." I'll take hated by the world, but safe, than loved by the world, and blown up, any day. The ONLY way they will not hate us is for us to become a muslim nation. I'm afraid there are becoming more and more who would rather do that than stand fast. Covering your eyes does not make the wolf go away either.
