I know there are not many homegrown Yankee fans here and I'm talking baseball here. Today is a day that, I'm not sure should be happening. Today the last game in yankee stadium will be played. This is a sad day, considering howmany firsts were done there.
OK I get it no one likes the yankee's here in Anderson SC. That's ok, but even if you hate the yanks you have to admit they have had the most incredible teams in the history of the game and some of the most fantastic players in the history of the game and a lot of that history took place in the house that Ruth built. So if you don't like the yank's fine but you don't hve to thumbs down on this, I wasn't raving about the yanks but their stadium.
Some of you guys are just plain nasty.
No thumbs down from me,Noline I remember the Yankees were the team that beat my team, the Dodgers, every year and that made them memorable to me. It is always sad when a baseball field with so much history plays the last game there. I certainly remember the great players and teams. What is going to happen to the field? Will there be a marker with some of the players and championships on it?
I'm watching the last game tonight.

Noeline,
If you go to the luncheon, ask me and I can give you a few Yankee stories. Of course it would be about the '40s/50s teams.
Noeline, this might surprise a few folks, but I grew up as a Yankee fan. Back then, before two hundred sports cable shows, we got the game of the week on Saturdays, and we waited for it all week. Like the Redskins in football, the Yankess were the team we saw most often down here. The Mick, Yogi, Bobby Richardson, a good old SC boy BTW, Whitey Ford, all those guys! Reggie Jackson, Ron Guidry, Catfish Hunter, a NC boy BTW, Goose Gossage, man the list goes on. Boy, they were great. I too hate to see the old park torn down. A Lot of ghosts in that building, and the greatest sports enterprise in history. No one even comes close to the history and the glory of the Yankees. The pregame show was fantastic last night. Of course, once tghe Braves moved to Atlanta, I began to root for them too, but I still love the pinstripes.

I Met Roger Maris, Yogi Berra, and Whitey Ford in the early 60's when LaFrance industries had them drop by while on one of their tours.
It was a great moment for a little guy who played baseball every time the weather permitted.
Also we have locals who played for Clemson and then on to play for the Yankees, coming back to our area to settle in business right here in Anderson.
Yes Noline, not only visited the Stadium, but played in it.
I think the reason I am not a big baseball fan is there is too much of it to choose from. Sports much like NEWS can be found 24/7 on TV if one so desires.
