Coverage of Palin's religious beliefs by the media has been unbelievable
Nick,
I think you are missing a couple of points.
1- In the Rev. Wright situation it was he who was talking, not Obama. The Rev Wright was not speaking for Obama he was speaking for himself. In the Palin situation she was doing the speaking, not her minister. She chose her own words.
2- Not everyone is Christian. The non-christian may not want a person in office that relies on a "God" to win wars and allow pipelines to be built.
Alot of the media (both main stream and second tier) are not Christian, or at least to the point that Southern Baptist are, and don't feel comfortable believing what some of us do.
I don't have a problem with the news media asking questions about Palin's beliefs (both relegious and political) and her background. McCain is the one that has put her out front and running interference for him. It was obvious the other night when she was interviewed by Charlie Gibson that she had been coached just enough to be a name dropper and enough to not say the wrong thing. But as long as McCain puts her in the dunking booth people are going to try to put her in the water.
I get such a hoot out of all you folks who expect your president to be a saintly leader for those unable to set their own moral standards, while also being enough of a sonuvabitch to keep us safe in this nasty world we inhabit. Make u your minds. Jimmy Carter was the most openly religious and pious president in fifty years, and by the time he lost the second term, most people wante dto hang him.
As for me, give me a steely eyed SOB who will look the enemy in the eye and stick the shiv between their third and fourth ribs. My mama and daddy and others taught me morality. I don't need it from anyone who would tell the lies that it takes to get elected president.
