C'mon, JD,

You can, have and will do a lot better than this.  You seem to think my topic had to do with Palin. I didn't knock her, I even complimented her for selling that jet.

My topic was about the lack of vetting of his running mate. Full vetting would have disclosed the true story about the sale and saved McCain's embarressment of not knowing the true story.

Also, vetting has nothing to do with swiftboating. Vetting seeks the truth about a candidate's backround while swiftboating seeks to distort that truth.

-pappy

Well, PAPPY, it just seems to me that "swiftboating" as done by shadowy Republican groups to Democrats looks exactly the same as the "vetting" being done by shadowy Democratic groups (like the N.Y. Times, MSNBC, etc.) to Republicans. Just depends on which side you're on. Smile

Of course, if Bill Clinton had selected someone like Sarah Palin for any job in the White House, I'm sure he would have had a totally different take on what "fully vetted" means. Laughing

Thanks Pappy,  I was trying to think of a way to explain the difference to JD.  You did it beautifully.

UP: McCain-Palin

DOWN: Obama-Biden

UP: The future of the United States

DOWN: The future of al-Qaeda

UP: The stock market

DOWN: Obama's stock

UP: The concept of rewarding productivitiy

DOWN: The concept of rewarding irresponsibility

UP: The idea that you LOWER taxes in a slow economy

DOWN: The idea that you RAISE taxes regardless of the condition of the economy

UP: The idea that a woman with children is capable of having a job

DOWN: The idea that a woman with children should stay home, barefoot and pregnant, for an unknown number of years before having a shot at that "glass ceiling"

UP: Old Glory as a symbol of national symbol

DOWN: Old Glory as an item for the landfill

I could go on, Hankey, but I think they get the idea. Wink

C'mon JD you are smarter than this. I am wondering what will happen to the votes of "Angry Old Men" that stated they would not vote for a Afro American man or a woman. (present company excepted. of course)

We have "Attack Dogs" and you have "Swift Boats". I would rather have a snarling biting beast that hangs on till the damage is done than a landing with spewing of lies and deceit that leaves many questions unanswered as they speed away. Hang on those boats are sinking with no life jackets on board.

Still say "swiftboating" and "vetting" sound a lot alike in the hands of partisans. Innocent

By the way, I was doing some research last night. Did you know that during his campaign in the spring of 1968, Bobby Kennedy announced that his wife, Ethel, was pregnant with their ELEVENTH child? Yep, Kerry was both six months after RFK's tragic assassination in Los Angeles.

How in the world did he think he could have found time to be President of the United States? My, goodness! Poor Ethel.

(And, PAPPY, Petunia, that's not a post about RFK's death. That stunned all of us, as did the death of MLK earlier in 1968. It's about parenting and parental responsibilities. You know, good for the goose ... good for the gander.)

I agree with you, Petunia. I'm particularly thrilled that OUR snarling, biting beast wears lipstick, and your "swiftboaters" don't. (Well, I'm not sure about Barney Frank, but otherwise ... ) Kiss

Just a bi-partisan comment:

Hasn’t it been nice that the two currently top topics have handled sharp disagreements without personal  gross vulgarities, coarse invectives or instructions about what to do with one’s bodily parts ?

Maybe civility, with a little humor thrown in, hasn't completely died in the Cockelbur.

Pappy/Petunia

Isn't it all in the interpretation? You see it your way, others see it theirs. Depends if you are buying or selling ? Obama was selling and voters were buying. Palin was selling and voters were mislead by MSMBC, CBS, CNN, ABC, NYT, and lots of large daily newspaper accross the USA.

Obama won despite a washed up sour puss as a running mate.

republikin,

Or, perhaps McCain was selling and voters weren’t buying an old worn-out product..

As for what Palin was selling, it was inferior goods that even Fox reported some  Republicans weren’t buying.

As you wrote, it is all in the interpretation.

Why is it so difficult for a conservative Republican to recognize Hank's put-ons ?

On second thought, I guess they have little to laugh at.

I predict that Obama is going to win in November...
and the Phillies in the World Series.

Very good, G-Pap. Now, let me go out on a limb with a few bold predictions, too.

I predict that Tommy Bowden will NOT make it through the season at head football coach at Clemson.

I predict that Circuit City will file for bankruptcy protection before Thanksgiving.

I predict that the stock market will take a major hit in the last quarter of 2008 and that sometime during the year the Federal government will have to step in and provide hundreds of billions of dollars in assistance to the struggling banking industry.

I predict that Ford, General Motors and Chrysler will continue to lose money throughout the year.

Whew, I'm getting a headache. That's enough predictin' for now. Check back with me in March and I'll have my prediction on who's going to win the SuperBowl. Smile
