Hi Stanton . . .Bitter over the fact that Liz's story received national play and your rag wasn't even a blip on the radar screen? I thought so. Have you bothered to take those journalism classes like I suggested you should during the election? Well, if you had, you would have a much better understanding at RESEARCH and INVESTIGATION rather than outright . . . well . . . read for yourself.Let me quote myself. Why? Because it's so easy to quote greatness:"Allow me to quote from the article to make my point:

“By closing the road you basically trap the residents if an accident occurs on either end of Sherrard Road,” Steven Chapman, a Lewis Drive resident, said at the council meeting. “We don’t know what to do or where to go if there is an ethanol spill, a train derailment or other industrial accident.”

With this said, let's look into these claims more closely, since the focus here is CLEARLY safety.

1.) The tank farm, from historic aerial photography, has existed since AT LEAST 1948. That is SIXTY (60) years that this "risk" has existed in the community.

2.) From those same historic photographs, you can see something missing ... HOMES. The crowd that argues that this is a case of NIMBY (Not In My Back Yard) need to re-evaluate their stand. The farm, and associated inherent risk was a pre-existing condition.

Spelled out ... people, of their own free will, built homes and chose to live in close proximity AFTER the tank farm, etc. was built.

3.) Sex Offenders. Yes - a divided road can and will promote additional protection from sex offenders.

Anderson County Sheriff's Office[url]

Search for yourself if you are concerned about safety. After all, thats what theses concerns are really about ... safety.

You know what is so sad, Stanton? That information there, in italics, took all of thirty (30) minutes to assemble. It's all public information easily accessible online. So . . . it SEEMS TO ME either you're a horrible journalist or you have a bias against the individuals involved in this story.

Your track record would indicate that BOTH are applicable.

non-sequitur,sounds to me like you have been listening to a lot of Cindy, bob,And the rest of the Rick is Wrong Gang from WAIM.I`ll bet they have cost the taxpayers a lot more than 22,000 dollars this year, with all their muckraking, and outright lie`s,and they don`t generate a profit,or entertainment.

another post lost to the thought police.

a fine example of a post shot down due to the idea and the point of view and not due to personal attacks and foul talk.

There is definitely large amounts of tax money spent on the baloon fest. If there wasn't, there would be no baloon fest, and no reason for the county to maintain the civic center complex. This year over $1 million of state taxpayer money went to the festival made possible by the guy who convinced Ron Wilson that Joey Preston was the best county administrator in the state.

and so who was that?????

I guess even junior lawyers in training make mistakes. The post was supposed to say $100,000. I got in a hurry and didn't re-read the full post, so I apologize for causing any confusion. I still definitely consider $100,000 to be a large amount of taxpayer money, and the competitive grants program is one of the most flagrant examples of wasteful, pork barrel spending in our state.

-lee-cole

Id buy that if you had typed 1,000,000 and not over 1 million!

sucks to be cought in a big exageration.

Wow, lee, no reason to maintain the Civic Center/sports complex? Tell that to the hundreds of kids who play soccer/baseball/tennis there every day. Perhaps you should visit the facility yourself before throwing out such a ridiculous idea. And, I could buy your "typo" explanation on the funds if you had not spelled out MILLION. That's no typo, that's an attempt to mislead.

Re:Amy, you know as well as anyone that a county employee in this county is at constant and significant risk of losing their job if they get caught crossing the party line.

I am a county employee and I have never felt that my job is at "constant and significant risk". Nothing could be farther from the truth. I have always remained neutral politically at any job I have ever had while on their payroll but, I say what I want on my own time. I can do that because I do my research before shooting my mouth off.

My bet is Dan Cooper, who is so entangled with Joey Preston that they look like twin sons of different mothers. When Joey needs some money, hejustnames something else after Dan's daddy, Dolly Cooper. That's why the locals now call Powdersville Coopersville.

I'm glad you are comfortable at your job. But there are many who are not, and not just in the Preston administration. If retaliation wasn't a common weapon among management, there would be no whistle blower laws. But there are county employees starting to talk now, because they see the handwriting on the wall. You'd be surprised how far up the food chain some of them are.In the menatime, you might want to freshen up your resume'. there are going to be some openings soon.

I know some of you will not believe this and continue to use my error to gloss over the real issue. That's fair, especially in Anderson County politics, but I assure you all that I did not intentionally post false information. It would be stupid to post a lie that could be so easily verified.

A lot of people are spreading the lie that no tax money or only a small amount has been spent on this festival the last two years. Taxpayer money is taxpayer money regardless of which pocket it comes out of.

The person I referred to in my original post was Rep. Dan Cooper. In the Republican Party debate at the civic center earlier this year, Ron Wilson said that the main reason he changed his opinion of the county administration was Dan Cooper telling him that Joey Preston was the best administrator in the state. I can see why the three would like each other. They all have records of wasting taxpayer money on pork barrel projects and growing government.

Word is there are "openings" coming to the WJ and to WAIM. Bob is already off-the-air. Who could be next? You might want to "freshen up" your already inflated resume.

What a great way to start the morning! A good hard laugh chases the cobwebs away, and hearing you using the word inflated certainly provided that! I think the reason you like the BalloonFest so much is that's where you learned about ground tethers.
Thanks, Amy.Have a good day.

-mr-hankey-the-d

Hankey, Lee may agree with this or he may not, but the Dolly Cooper POark in Powdersville comes to mind. for starters, Marshall carithers, Joey's pet realtor, received a $60,000 "consulting fee" on that deal. For what? To tell Joeythat it was actually dirt he was standing on? For another thing, as many people from Greenville county as from Anderson will use those facilities, while not paying a penny in county taxes.
While we're in Powdersville, let's be sure to go by and see the wonderful new library and government center. You know, the one that was incredibly overbuilt, but so poorly budgted that none fo the government offices nor the library can afford to keep full schedules of business hours. Nice furniture, though.
But Powdersville has a lot more going for it, like the EMS building that fellow Joey Pal Forrest Thomas used for his ambulance service for at least four years after supposedly buying it from the county. somehow, the deal never actually closed,so the county kept paying the utilities for the building.Yessir, it's no wonder that P'ville, or Cooperstown as the locals call it, has such a business friendly reputation.
Just a few thoughts, Hankey. And Republikin, before you run in and start peeing on bushes and marking Joey's territory, all that information is documented and available to you too. BTW, did the deal ever close on the land for the ethanol facility or is it copntingent on that rail crossing coming true?
Maybe I'll take some time off from resume' polishing to run that down today.BTW, just so you'll know, you pronounce that resumay.

Lil' Mater Me thinks your off about the library. so "incredibly overbuilt" that they can't keep hours? More to it then that son, maybe they should build our goverment buildings like fireworks stands. Then they can be open 24/7 and sit on egg crates.
and as for that $60,000 "consulting fee" you know darn well that he did alot more then tell about the dirt.
but that don't make a good story do it? And we all know thats what lil' you are about pritty boy.

Hankey, what else did Carithers do? What do you know about that transaction? Check back and see how many real estate transactions involving the county HAVEN'T involved Marshall Carithers in the last ten years. Hehas become rich doing real estate deals for the county. Whose money do you think bought that place in Cashiers,NC where he and his pal hang out? Or the beach house in Charleston, where they take Council members to wine and dine them?
What could he have possibly done that was worth $60K on the Dolly Cooper deal? I'm listening.
As to the library, what possible use is there for a two story building that has only one story? And the fact is that the library and the government services there do not keep a full business schedule. The library was open about 30 hours a week last time I was there, and much like Dolly Cooper park, it is used heavily by Greenville county residents. I have no problem with that, except that they are getting something for free that you andI are paying for. Do you think anyone in Williamston, which by the way has a forty year old one story library building, are using that library in Cooperstown? You asked for some projects. there they are. If you prefer denial, that's your choice.
Try this one on for size. Maybe you'd like it more. The beautiful but infamous road tonowhere that was built into Larry Greer's district, along with a sewer line that was supposed to serve a large poultry processor. But the county didn't get the deal signed before they hiked their skirts and gave away the goods. so now folks in Iva are paying grossly inflated( double or triple) sewer rates for a project that also included a huge cost overrun by BP Barber, which built the system. More Joey pals. Look into that deal, Hankey. There;s enough pork there to gag a million Muslims.

republican

You give more free advertising to the WJ and WAIM here than anything else. Your so into trashing them, your helping them. I could care less one way or the other, I don't get either of them, but sometimes your rants make me want to get in my car and drive, pick up a paper and tune my radio to AM.

Negative publicity is sometimes the best. When someone pokes you with a stick they sometimes may be wanting you to call their name outloud. It's working with you.
