Wow, Palin's 17 year old is preggers. Poor kid, has an ideologue for a mom, so nipping this in the bud and moving on with your life is out of the question. You must be punished for your sin! And a another unwanted child is brought forth. I'm sure the anti-choice, you must do what we tell you to do (or, what OUR Bible tells YOU to do - or what we THINK our Bible tells you to do) are so pleased.I don't believe you know this family. Before you make yourself look stupid you might want to do a little homework in the future.
VEEP - a candidate with SUBSTANCE!
Again, can we have a bit of debate about "Abstinence Only Education?" That was kind of my point anyway.
ibvirginia, abstinence only is not always effective. But right now, I admire the woman even more for the love she and her family are showing their child. I also agree with you, BLogger. All of us who have teens (boys or girls) know that this is a worry we all face. I feel that attacking her is wrong. Spouses are off limits to a degree but they do also do campaigning so I understand discussing that. But the children of candidates - that is totally off limits.

You must be punished for your sin? oh thats righ tObama and his kind look as a child as punishment.
another unwanted child? how do you know that this child is unwanted. Got some news for you NYBOBBY, A child is a gift. a spechel gift. you don't leave them in the trash, use them a sheild to hid your boms when you walk into the bus station, and you sure as hell don't sever their spine seconds before they take their first breath.
NYBOBBY Mr. Obamas thoughts that we should just nip this in the bud so they are not punished just show what a pice of crap he is.
It does seem to be something of a stretch when Democrats want to lecture us about "unwanted babies" after they've managed to be complicit in sending some 35 million infants to incinerators all over the United States in the past 35 years, doesn't it?
I'm actually beginning to like you, Hankey. (Did I really say that?)
I agree that to attack children is absolutely wrong, yes. I'm not making any value judgements about the child herself, Gov. Palin, or Governor Palin's ability to lead. What I'm saying is can we not look at this situation and have a discussion about what works and what doesn't? I just think that this is a good time for us, as a country, to have this discussion again, especially if you have teenagers who see this on the news. It seems like a good point to open a dialogue, draw some conclusions. If the conclusion is that teenagers are going to do this regardless of the type of sex education, then ok, let's come to that conclusion. I also deal with a lot of teenagers, and I'm curious what everyone thinks the best approach might be. Personally, I think abstinence only education is entirely too "pollyanna" for today's world, but I, actually, was abstinent until well into adulthood.
JD, I'd be glad have a discussion about abortion with you later, but I'm more interested in discussing this now if anyone wants to, so far it's been a no go. ;)
Abstinent until well into adulthood? Proud of you, Virginia. I personally vowed when I was 13 years old that I would save myself for the one I loved - and I also succeeded until well into adulthood, despite the fact that my first wife stayed pretty upset about it for the entire three and a half years we were married.
I'm not a big fan of abstinence-only sex education, Virginia, but I'd be more than happy to debate you on the issue even if I have to play the role of Devil's Advocate. You're right. It needs to be debated and discussed. There's far more at stake than just ideology.
Thanks JD, I'd take you up on the Devil's Advocate, but we'd just be entertaining ourselves, like usual. ;) I was just on my mind today. I was thinking about when Britney's sister Jamie Lynn got pregnant and all of the teenage girls I know wanted to talk endlessly about it. In that case, that was a super-crazy family, so it was easy for everyone to write it off as the fault of bad parenting. I think this is the better example to discuss simply because from all accounts this is a fantastic family, ergo, it can happen to the best of us, so we all need to address it.
Anyway, the boy made some collards that have been cooking all day, and I'm going to go have some with some cornbread. They are so good you would think he was from the South, but he's from Arizona (which is why he likes John McCain, well that and this pesky Republican problem he's been having.)
Fact-no one ever got pregnent by not doing it. (excluding mary if your into that train of thought)
Blogger, unfortunately it doesn't seem to have settled down. The ny times had three stories that covered the daughter on the front page and above the fold. Seems that a very very double standard exists. Seems as though the gray lady has decided that when it comes to the children of republicans it is open season. I wonder why? I have heard that some democrat's family is in the same situation and nothing has been mentioned.
That's what I think blogger. It seems like if we just say don't do it, then they have little defense for a persistent partner or an individual reason to ignore those powerful hormones, and when the time comes that they give in, I'd rather mine use protection. A pregnancy is life altering, absolutely, but I'm even more worried about the disease that's potentially life ending. My boy is already in the process of welding chastity belts for our kids, but that's still a long way off, since we're not married yet (I think that's the 400th hint I've managed to insert into the Cocklebur for him to read). So, blogger, if you'd like to borrow them for your house...wait that's a lot of belts!
Please tell me your premarital counselor doesn't think that you and jwwii are saving yourselves? ;) I mean I ain't trying to call a sista out or anything, but those girls look just like you (Good genes I might add. I'd kill for both the hair and the skin tone.)
I DID NOT attack Palin's daughter. I didn't even bring it up! I was attacking the far right mentality that claims to have the right to tell others how to behave on matters that are none of their business. It is certainly ironic that Ms Palin is both anti-abortion, and anti-sex education in the schools (it would seem you shouldn't be both, given the likely outcome). I'm glad Palin's daughter will have all this "loving" support as she raises her new baby. (I hope she spends more than three days at home with him/her before going back to work). A lot of poor kids don't have this, and, if Palin gets her way - they won't have much hope of correcting their mistake. Even if they managed to get Roe v Wade overturned, the states will still have their say. Rich kids will always be able to fly out to California or NY to get their abortions. Poor kids will have to fend for themselves in those states that outlaw abortions.
Whether or not this poor 17 year old wants the baby or not, I doubt under the circumstances whether her opinion on her options had much weight. And, marrying the boy?! I sure hope this is her idea and not the political handlers'
Wyatt, parents do not "allow" their teenagers to "procreate." Short of confining them to their rooms until they're ready to move out of the house, parents really can't balance the delicate task of teaching them right from wrong AND giving the room to find their own identities and develop a sense of responsibility.
My youngest daughter got pregnant at 16. I didn't "allow" it. Needless to say, I wasn't overly happy about it, but apparently there were some deficiencies in my 24-hour lock-and-key surveillance plan you seem to think I should have had.
Mrs. Tippett, in fact, found herself unhappily pregnant when she was just 17 years old (that was before I met her, by the way.) The result of that is my son - the U.S. Marine, who is every bit as much my son as if I had been responsible on the night he was conceived.
Now, Wyatt, do you want to question my parenting skills, or Mrs. Tippett's parenting skills, because of those two unfortunate - but all to common - teen pregnancies? You can if you want to a**hole, but you'd be wrong. I really respect what you and your wife are doing for your community, Wyatt, but sometimes you're a f****** idiot. A lot of us are more than willing to help you (Mrs. Tippett and I have even talked about showing up for one of your cleanup days, even though we live in Pickens County), but people like us only help those who, at the very least, respect us. You obviously don't - either out of ignorance or out of pure foul-mouthed arrogance.)
You take on Sarah Palin through her daughter at your own risk, Wyatt. What she is going through - and handling with grace and dignity - hits really close to home for far more of us backwoods Southerners (as you like tho think of us as being) than the out-of-touch Democratic Party realizes.
I have always believed the Democratic Party is the party of racism and sexism. not the Republican Party. The fact that all those guys with firehoses and teargas in Selma, Birmingham and Little Rock 40 or 50 years ago were DEMOCRATS convinced me a long time ago of the former. People like you convince me more and more of the latter.
Now, can we clean up our language a bit, or do you want me to start questioning just what kind of role model YOU are for the children of our community?
(NICK, ban me if you want to. Ban Wyatt and me both. You established the rules when you banned a few temporarily a couple of weeks ago. Wyatt apparently missed the memo with his "frakkings" and "f*****s", and I'll play if he wants to. He has no sense of community standards, and I'm more than happy so smack him upside the head with the same lowlife attacks he uses, even if it means end of this screenname.)
Sorry bloggers, but I find little faith in any public official who touts responsibility and sound decision making skills, while she cannot maintain her household, children and "moral responsibilities" of abstinence and good parenting. I f she allows her teen to procreate, then what other f*cking around will she allow in government?-wyatt1sc
Please wynot.
sounds to me like she & her girl is taking responsobility for it.

So, what did you think of Bill "I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky" Clinton's performance in office? Your head must have exploded!
