Nice article on Ms. Palin.

A quote from the article:

“We may be seeing the first woman president. As a Democrat, I am reeling,” said Camille Paglia, the cultural critic. “That was the best political speech I have ever seen delivered by an American woman politician. Palin is as tough as nails.”

I have never seen such a grand=standing ploy as Palin "stepping up" to be VEEP  when Billary wasn't signed up?Can't the GOP come up with something origional?   Glass ceiling statement, Shooting the M4 assault rifle with the Guard, her beauty-queen background, the disabled kids......priceless!  Surprised they didn't have her wearing a blue dress with a Cuban cigar in her hand.

Hmm, so If McPain wins (yeah right!) And America finally admits women ARE smart enuf to have control of the suitcase and the pursestrings of this country, do you actually believe they'd let her LIVE to realize such aspirations? Even if he's only a hundred-ninety in dog years, no way McPain would die then! Just hire Jeff Dunham to do his ventrilouquist act using McPain if he strokes out.

At least with Obummer, you know the CIA assassins are already lining the streets of Dallas( or wherever...), planning the route and escape paths so Joe White-bread Biden can do the Dem's bidding.

Wyatt, I'm assuming you consider that post to be non-hateful - the kind of post that will make Nick and Art proud of the political discussion on The Cocklebur?

I don't know, bud. I have my doubts on that. Assassination references are generally outside of the mainstream of American politics, you know.

Uh, Wyatt, the GOP did come up with something original.  And as for you questioning women's intelligence:  Well, sir, with all due resoect, you are smarter than your wife.  After all you married her, and she married you....  (jokeLaughingLaughingLaughing

Wyatt, don't take anything I say today personally. I'm in a foul mood. Mrs. Tippett and I had words last night, and she didn't even give me a chance to use any of mine. Frown

I can't believe that John McCain finally made a decision that I respect and consider one of the most billiant he has ever made.
Andrew by the way she could have been the mayor of a town of 200 and she would still have more excutive experience than anyone else on the tickets.
But she was not she was the mayor and then city council, then the energy commision then the governership and she has given money back to her constitutents. Real money not a non-existent tax credit, Real live money. My girlfriend in AK says even though she doesn't agree with her on abortion, she voted for her for a lot of other reasons. She says she is sorry that Sarah will not be gov of AK after Nov, because she was just getting started for the people of AK. But Deb feels that the country will be better off with Sarah in DC helping to clean that city up.

Noeline, I think your girlfriend in AK won't have to worry about getting a new governor come November. By this VP choice, McCain has given away the election.

nybob...

Time will tell, but I think you are so wrong! I had intended to vote for a third party candidate this election even though I have been a life-long Republican. I think McCain is more liberal on many points than what I would like. However, his wonderful choice in a VP has caused me too give him another look. He may yet get my vote.

Boy McCain is smarter than I gave him credit for. His VP selection really does cover all the bases.
1- Woman...gets the womens votes
2- NRA Member..gets the hunters votes
3- Unknown....gets all the unknown peoples votes
4- No experience....gets the inexperienced vote
5- Has a military son....gets the military vote
6- Played basketball...gets the basketball players vote
7- Married to a "blue collar worker"..gets the blue collar vote
8- Has five children... gets the "go forth and replenish the earth" vote
9- Has a special needs baby...gets the special needs parents vote
10-Has a new born... gets the new born parents vote
11-Has a pregnant teenage daughter...gets the unwed & pregnant vote
12-Husband arrested for DWI...gets the DWI's vote
13-Is a fisherwoman.....gets the fishermen & fisherwomen vote
14-To be a grandparent soon...gets the grandparents vote

Man she has it all. It is a slam dunk now. McCain & Palin all the way.

The new VP also is pro-family.  She believes a man/woman constitute a marriage.  She is also pro-life.  She believes abortion is wrong.  These two alone are worth millions of votes, including mine. Laughing

Agree totally, Prevail, but Johnb2 has pointed out a significant advantage the Obama camp has in this campaign.

See, Obama supporters like Johnb can get by with calling the Republican candidate "Boy McCain" and get by with it. The first time you or I used the words "Boy Obama" the race-baiters would be all over us. Sealed

I agree with Obama and McCain that families should stay out of the race, and I'm not saying this to sully her family's good name. I really am posing this question for an answer to the underlying issue. Part of Sarah Palin's platform when she ran for govenor was state mandated "Abstinence Only Sex Education," and yet, she has a pregnant 17 year old. When are we as a country going to realize that abstinence only sex education does not work??

Mr Tippett,
You are normally right-on with your post, but you are wrong this time. I can not and will not vote for Obama. However as I have stated brfore, McCain is making it very hard for me to continue to support him.

I just think that his choice for VP was and is a mistake. McCain had the "experience" angle that was working, he had pulled even with Obama in the polls. His selection of his VP to me questions his decision making ability.

McCain/Romney or McCain/Hutchinson or McCain/Huckabee would have been winners.
I am not sure that Ms Palin knows what she has opened up.The media will crucify her. This could turn out to be a McGovern type mistake.

I would imagine that the religious right types will have a problem with Ms Palin.I can't imagine James Dobson liking the fact that Ms Palin, herself with a new born (that needs her attention) and now a daughter pregnant,(that will need her before and after the baby is born) being the VP candidate. How is a new mother and a new grandmother going to balance all that plus do the duties of VP?

Has nothing to do with anit-women...has to do with family first.

Wow, Palin's 17 year old is preggers. Poor kid, has an ideologue for a mom, so nipping this in the bud and moving on with your life is out of the question. You must be punished for your sin! And a another unwanted child is brought forth. I'm sure the anti-choice, you must do what we tell you to do (or, what OUR Bible tells YOU to do - or what we THINK our Bible tells you to do) are so pleased.

Wow, did you see Obama's two kids interrupting him on the second night of the convention when he was speaking from Kansas City? Looks to me like those two little brats need a good spanking. What kind of parent would raise such rude little girls?

Yeah, that's it. Lets drag the kids into the campaign so we can all fall two letters short of showing our CLASS. Wink

NYbob, at least Palin's daughter can rely on the support and love of her own family instead of having to throw herself to the mercy of Uncle Sam's nanny state, which liberals think is the answer to all problems.

Of course, if we were all perfect like you, we wouldn't need Jesus Christ, now would we? (Good luck with that philosophy, by the way.)

NYbob--How do you know this will be an unwanted child???  I am sure you probably think Gov. Palin's 5th child is unwanted.  I suspect the Governor is more than willing to accept her daughter and to deal with her condition as best she can.  I have no idea what the outcome will be but I don't think it will result in an unwanted child.
