"you Democrats..." Hey, there's no reason to stoop to name-calling JD. I'm actually, I guess, a "disgruntled" Republican, having to hold my nose these last eight years and vote Libertarian, cause I just couldn't stomach voting for Dubya.
I voted for McCain in the SC primary, but, have lost my taste for him, too.
Whoever gets in will have a hell of a mess to clean up, and I don't envy him.
Barack's got the "rock-star" thing going for him now, but, I doubt it will last. But, I bet he ends up winning.

This choice kicks ASS!

Biden is a joke and exactly what is wrong with Washington.  McCain is not a lot better, but this VP pick knocks it out of the park.

McCain/Palin.  I'm in.

Sorry, NYBob. Disgruntled Republicans and gruntled Democrats sound a lot alike nowadays. I'm a disgruntled Republican myself, you know. In fact, I said several times if the Presidential race boiled down to a choice between Hillary Clinton and John McCain, I'd have to give Hillary a serious look.

Didn't work out that way. As soon as Barack Obama won the Democratic nomination, my voted was cast in stone. Left of center, I can live with. Lunatic left, no way.

And whether or not the selection was "pandering" is always an open question. An argument could be made that EVERY vice presidential pick represents some form of pandering, either to help the presidential nominee with a state or a region or to fill in resume gaps. Actually, throughout the years, I can think of very few exceptions.

In any event, McCain's selection certainly knocked Obama's "Temple of Hype" speech off the top of today's news cycle, didn't it? Laughing

The Republicans are not going to touch Barack Hussein Obama. Sarah Plain and Tall may ad some youth and vigor the Father Time's campaign, but I suspect the Republicans have just punted the ball in hopes of getting it back with better field position in 2012.

This has to be the absolulely worst set of candidates ever assembled for a run for the White House...on both sides!!!

On one side you have a guy with no experience that has a questionable background...talking about change...and he picks a 30+ year professional Washington politician as his running mate.

On the other hand you have a 30+ year professional politician, older than dirt (if you played the odds will not be of sound mind for 4 more years) who picks a less experienced "hocky mom" for his running mate.

Two questions that I am having a hard time answering.
1- Do I want Obama, with very little experience, making decisions for me in Washington?
2- Do I want McCain, with a VP with less experience than Obama who would be only a heartbeat away from making decisions for me in the Whitehouse, in office?

Help!!! Who is on the Libertarian ticket?

I disagree, White Plains Drifter. This actually serves to level the playing field.

Up until now, anybody who has attacked Barack Obama for whatever reason has had to face those insidious charges of "racism." Now, anybody who criticizes Sarah Palin could possibly be subjected to charges of "sexism." And, I hope they are, to make an example of some of them.

This is the ultimate test for that totally overboard war for "political correctness" we've faced in the past three decades. Regardless of who wins in November, I think this race may well serve to point out just how STUPID the concept of PC really is.

I'll fire the first shot, WPD. Calling her "Sarah Plain and Tall" is indicative of your tendency to judge women by their appearance, not by their ability. I do hope that was a typo and not an intentional post. If not, you, sir, are a sexist PIG.

Let the games begin! Laughing

You bring up a good point JD. As thrilled as I am that there is a female VP candidate on any ticket, even though we both know I'll be voting for the other, I wonder about McCain's motivation in picking her. I have my 20 month old grand-daughter today and am enjoying her too much to give the matter too much thought and I need to give her most of my attention not this issue. But I can't help but wonder did he chose her soley because she was a woman and he wanted to take some of the wind out of the sails of people saying a McCain ticket would be more of the republican party doing more of the same? I certainly hope not, because I believe a woman can be in that position, but at the same time I don't want it done to prove how PC the party can be. And from all I have read today many of the same complaints that are made about Obama can be made about her. She is young and has limited experience being a first term governor. And not to dispage Alaska but I have concerns about how in touch with the needs of the United States can be by someone who resides so far away from mainstream America. Now back to that baby Smile

Yeah, like Obama has a lifetime of experience with mainstream America. Arugula? What the hell is arugula? Is that anything like TOFU? Laughing

Blogger, the honorable Mr. Obama grew up in Hawaii. Is that any closer to mainstream America than Alaska is?

Straight from the horse's mouth:

"I've looked for the best to help me shake up Washington," McCain said in announcing that he had chosen Palin, a mother of five, to be his running mate.

Good enough for me!

Grew up in Hawaii true, educated and lived his adult life on the mainland however. In my limited research today I saw Palin moved to Alaska at 2 but haven't seen where she's lived anytime in the lower 48 since. I am not sure about school I haven't seen that yet, anyone know?

JD, my "Plain and Tall" stems from the fact that my dyslexic brain wants to read "Palin" as "Plain". And with "Sarah" already in the mix, it wasn't a giant leap from there. My apologies to women everywhere. Females are far and away my favorite gender. My mother is one, as are my daughters and my GF.

She's a J-school graduate, Blogger? What are you trying to do, sow doubts in my mind?

I've had to UN-teach every J-school graduate who ever worked for me. They're like teenagers - can't tell 'em anything they don't already know. Wink

Give me a history major, a poli-sci major or an English major any day. We already KNOW we don't know anything ... but we're willing to learn something new, and innovative, and NOT in the textbook.

That's good enough for me, WPD. I was just playin' with you anyway to make the point of my post.

And a part of that post is that I'm not a big fan of political correctness. I was once called a "sexist pig" by a lady for whom I had held a door open. After she had insulted me, I told her, "Ma'am, I didn't hold the door for you because of your gender. I held it for you because of your age."

Don't ever say that to a lady. Sealed

Nothing personal, WPD. Carry on.

I think McCain's pick is clearly pandering. He needs a gimmick to give him a "bounce" after the Dems' convention. - and to fire up interest in the R's upcoming convention.Problem is, she'll have to debate against Biden, who will have her for lunch. And, then there's the little matter of an investigation into her firing a public safety commissioner for allegedly failing to do her bidding in firing her sister's ex-husband. Nattering nabobs not withstanding.

Honesty, integrity, and determination will make the difference.  We have about 60 days.  Let's see what happens!!
