Anderson County has accomplished a great deal during the past decade. I asked around and somebody forwarded me a list of some of the major achievments. And while much has been bantered about on this blog in recent months about what's wrong with the County, it might be worth considering what's been right at the county for the past 12 years.

"Economic Development Division Facilitated the creation of more than 10,000 new jobs with a capital investment in excess of $3 Billion (1997 to present – nuff said)"

AH, but what did the COUNTY BRING in on it's own pray tell without the assistance of the State or Upstate Alliance? Records from The State are very disparate from this reporting as mentioned many months ago on a thread labeled Economic Development.....Findings were reported based on information the State furnished, not the county."

One does have to wonder how did you manage to get your hands on this document unless you're entrenched in the Joey camp and working from the inside to sway public opinion? Just a thought that possibly the pendulum swings both ways:)

Yeah, yeah, but what have they done lately? Laughing

That's quite an impressive list there, Deepthroat, but how DARE you throw a bunch of verifiable facts into a political debate on The Cocklebur? You're gonna confuse somebody. Wink

Springs-sprung, my guess is that document would have been available to anybody who asked - even Cindy Wilson or Bob Waldrep. Nothing top secret about it. It was probably compiled by the PR Department. Good job, by the way.

Economic Development is a team sport. How many games will Clemson win this year if they don't put anybody but the quarterback on the field? As receivers, the Anderson County economic development squad must not only be on the field, they must get open and make the catch. Re: what has the County has done lately? Much of the list was accomplished despite a prolonged blitz by Cindy and the naysayers. For the past year, the game has suffered through an interminable official timeout while instant replays are reviewed to determine in either side has engaged in unsportsmanlike conduct. Hopefully play will resume soon.

Wow, what a list! good to see Joey Ray polishing up that resume. But I guess the 10,000 new jobs slipped past me.He had tripled the size of the county government, though, so he can claim 500-600 new jobs, all paid for with public funds.
Most of that stuff was nuts and bolts maintenance and repair.New convenience centers are not economic development, even in Anderson county, okay?
This is just the next step in the public relations blitz Joey has underway. Hey, who can blame him? He's fighting for his political life, if not his actual freedom. Go to the county website and read his new and improved bio. It's like Mother Teresa and Pope Paul had a baby.Could there be a more wonderful humanbeing anywhere? I think not!
Then ask yourself why the biggest single entry on the county website is about Joey in the first place. Sorry, deepthroat, I know we're all supposed to be in a new spirit of conviviality, but as far as I can tell your name should be kissass, not deepthroat.

I'm not taking a side here just sharing something I thought was funny. Earlier when deepthroat started the thread for a few minutes it was empty. Get it?

Sorry, doesn't take much to amuse me which is why I'm the best girlfriend ever!

Poeple like you get credit for lost opportunities. You are too negative. Who wants to be around a negative atmosphere? I'm leaving!

Heck if I know Stringcheese. George W. Bush? Adam Smith (father of capitalism)? Omar the tentmaker? One thing is certain, textiles began their skid when JP was a kid. And as odd as it may seem, you and the Joey haters will have to find some other boogeyman on which to blame the decline of the textile economy.

Yes, Plumbob. Despite the continued hemorrhaging of local textile jobs, the county economic development has been successful in the Joey years. Michelin built a new plant here and expanded their Sandy Springs plant. Walgreens put a major new facility on the ground. Electrolux and Glen Raven consolidated major operations here, as did Torrington and Bosch and many other small/medium size companies. The county has made some big kills during the past decade. But a group of small-minded people seem to be obsessed who might have gotten a free hamburger at a restaurant in Orangeburg.

Plumbob, I agree with you that the bio stuff on the website is superfluous and doesn't have a whole lot of relevance to the county. And by the same token, the list I posted is not all about Joey either. It was a team effort orchestrated by Joey with the committed leadership of people like William Floyd, Fred Tolly, Clint Wright, Harvie Bannister, Mike Holden, Larry Greer, Gracie Floyd, Bill Dees, Bill McAbee, Michael Thompson and Ron Wilson. And yes, even Bob Waldrep and Cindy Wilson might have even made inadvertent occasional contributions to the team when they were not faxing the playbook to the opponents.

Wow! I've been wondering who was responsible for the collapse of the textile industry. I thought it was Bill Clinton and NAFTA! Silly me! I should have known it was Bob and Cindy.
If Joey was as good at seducing industry as he is at seducing others, whooo! Spartanburg would be over here taking notes.

Textile was dead here long before Clinton was elected.
