I simply HAD to link this story when the news broke . . .

Remember Tyco? Remember how we "didn't give them a fair shake?" Remember how they were supposed to be superior to the Motorola equipment AND cheaper. Remember when SSHM said go with Motorola or BUST . . .

SSHM says: I TOLD YOU SO!!!

NY Comptroller: Ditch $2 Billion Wireless Network
http://www.reuters.com/article/technologyNews/idUSN2129659620080822?sp=true

The opening paragraph is GOLD:

NEW YORK (Reuters) - New York should ditch a $2 billion plan for a statewide wireless network for emergency workers unless a Tyco Electronics Ltd unit can fix the already-delayed system's problems, State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli said on Thursday.

Vindication . . . and just in time for cocktails at Sullivan's. I for one plan to raise my glass in toast to the good guys who CHOSE THE RIGHT SYSTEM from THE RIGHT VENDOR.

Enjoy that gem ... and have a GREAT WEEKEND!!!

And they were supposed to be psychic?

The concept is correct, look at options your post is off in that you seem to suggest considering other option is wrong.

Motorola has a proven track record for wireless communications. That's something important to be considered. Considering other options is always a good idea, but going with a proven winner is usually a good idea. Do Olympic Athletes go with the cheapest running shoes or do they go with the best? Now consider that the 900 system is focused on saving lives; is that worth trying to save a few pennies?

Of course they do but then again Microsoft was a new guy on the block and they did okay. My point is you should look at options.

Some work some like PeopleSoft were a disaster - oh and Vista, another disaster. Honey can I have my XP back please. Sometimes there is something better and sometimes not but for goodness sake, don't just brand name purchase.

the total inability of cindi wilson supporters to admit error, wrongdoing or mistakes by her is simply amazing....

she has been wrong so many more times than she has been right...

Sorry. Several months ago there was a story which showed Canada dumping a $10 billion Motorola system. I never bothered to link it becuase the 800MhZ is a done deal. Of course, when your screen name starts with the word Stupid, these things are bound to happen. Besides, wasn't it queen who recently reminded us that beating a dead horse can be a lot of fun? at least for some.

From Philadelphia Daily News, July 24th:

Police-radio failure prompts tough talk from Ramsay

They've had Motorola 800Mhz system since 2002, paid $63 million so far.

This quote from the story is PLATINUM:

"We would be better off going to a department store and buying our guys little walkie-talkies," said FOP president John McNesby.

OMG, Cindy & Bob might have been right!

Oops! 2 deaths and a maiming, that's going to push the price up of those phones up! 63M to buy it and another 30M to upgrade the system? Point is, it's all technology so BID IT!

Sounds to Mr. Hankey that they are not keeping their equipment in good working order.
But hay when you can misuse it and not keep it up to date, then call out the manufacture to fix the mess you helped make. What the hell right.
Did he really say “walkie-talkies”. What a dumb comment. Maybe if they had any understanding about how their system works this kind of thing would not happen.
Just get sprint phones for goodness sakes.

after Cindy gets done blowing those hundreds of thousands ( or was it $2.5 million that was quoted....)  theer should be P-L-E-N-T-Y  left over to buy a upgrades communications system for our EMS and emergency personnel ( like a few dixie cups and string from the Dollar store)

I can see the cartoon in the AIM now...... "will work for telecommunications devices"

Your back - I think he meant the old "walkie-talkies" would have worked better and three back-up systems failed. I know given our maintenance budget they have one too so it may have just failed. yikes! Imagine that, but most would rather swallow their own tongues than admit MCW and BW might have had a valid point. So sad, can't get past the people onto the issues.

Hmmm, wonder what company had the maintenance contract?

Well we have a really good amount budgeted for maintenance and so does every other major city....part of the contract. Come on, the system failed, it happens.

The point is, Scalawag, that they give it some thought, and try on more than one shoe. Or do they just wear the ones they are paid to wear? Nah, that couldn't happen in Anderson county.
