Friends, Cockleburrians:

Lefora, the company that hosts TheCocklebur, has implemented a new site design to provide many of the long-awaited site enhancements requested by The Cocklebur community since the launch of the new, improved Cocklebur in June.

You'll notice faster loading and easier page navigation (less scrolling!), quoting and better marking of unread content.

The Lefora team is still working out the bugs on many of the improvements and they are eager to hear feedback from our pro users.

Lefora chief Vincent Lauria said:

"Please let (the users) know that we'll be making tweaks here and there over the next two weeks. We're in active development on this and there could be a few hiccups over the next few days, but nothing major."

Among the known issues:

- It will say '0 posts' count for every user, we'll put the real number here very soon

- Older posts may display '?' instead of 'founder/admin/member' (we're fixing)

- Quoting is very much work in progress - feedback here would be helpful

- The permalink is likely to move around a bit as we play with the layout.

- The topic listing/category page will be the next to get some attention, currently it doesn't show the number of pages, but it will.

- We'll also be adding support for locking threads.

We hope that you will find the new forum experience much improved. We believe that Lefora is committed to continual enhancements that you'll love.

Let us know what you think!

God bless. Nick

One quick thing to point: Some of you may have noticed a double-posting or triple-posting here and there. It looks as though some of you may have gotten used to doubleclicking on the submit button. You shouldn't have to do that now. One click is enough! Let me know if you're sure that's not the problem.

HELP!

Is there no way that we (the Cocklebur community) can ban the interlopers that are trying to to shut us down? I believe in free speech as much or more than the next person but this is piracy. How is this problem avoided on other forums? Nick, you have told us that we, the "members", are in control of what happens here. Can we "vote" them "off the island"?

Surely you and Butch are concerned. I would hate to see them win. Yes, I know that even if their URLs (what ever that is) are banned they will just turn up again under other aliases. It is their "assignment", to threaten any progress that this beautifully renewed City and prosperous County has accomplished. Cry  Please don't let them win!

I'm with you Petunia.  Surely the other posters must agree as well.

Patience, Petunia, patience. I think I hear the cavalry in the background.

Thank goodness you are there JD! I feel like I am about to lose my best friend. Actually I did lose a very good friend on Tuesday to Cancer. I wouldn't wish that on anyone but maybe a simple plague could wipe out some of the evil in our midst.

Oops! I'm not the cavalry, Petunia, especially since the "thumbs up/thumbs down" feature seems to be out of commission and I can't even state an opinion on anybody's post.

What I meant was that both Nick and Butch have been online frequently this morning. I'm sure they're reviewing what's going on here, and I trust their judgment. As I see it, there are three choices:

1. Do nothing. Let the flamers (Rino, Prevail, Zn, Hankey) continue to spout their venom unchallenged, in which case The Cocklebur will become an afterthought when civil debate becomes impossible.

2. Ban those flamers and any of those who refuse to understand that FREE SPEECH does have limits and doesn't really carry a whole lot of weight other than that philosophical respect the owners of the board want to ascribe to it.

3. Swallow really hard and start removing posts that are obscene, profane, or which represent nothing more than personal feuds between one or more bloggers that have nothing to do with the issues.

Of those three, I suspect Nick doesn't have time to engage in No. 3 (that's our job, if and when we get the "thumbs up/thumbs down" option back.

No. 1 isn't really an option, unless The Cocklebur is on the way out anyway and somebody's looking for a reason. I sincerely hope that's not the case, but one never knows.

That leaves Option 2. We'll see what happens, I guess.

Oh, I think you are the cavalry JD.  You are a voice of reason in a sea of cacophony( Remember Ralph ??? on WORD)  Thinks are getting really bad here.  I'm actually thinking about switching to sic Willie and Fitsnews for my blogging experiences.  I could join the high heel gang.  I can still wobble about on 5" heels.

How about a fourth option JD, do as I do read only what interest`s you, in my case it`s PREVERT and his gang of whiners,MY advice to you is if you don`t like it,or me don`t read it.

Nah, Rino, that's not an option. When somebody else's dog is crappin' in my yard, I'm going to notice.

Maybe if you ignore them they will go away, they remind me of children who misbehave to get attention.

Nah, Rino. Unless you have a computer that doubles as an automatic coffeemaker, I'm quite sure you have nothing that's of interest to me. And you certainly have nothing in ANY bag that intimidates or impresses me.

What are you some kind of perverse homo sex offender? Also, even though I don't always agree with JD, I don't think that he swings that direction there Elton John. From what the cops say, your kind like to hang out over at some park on Manse Jolly Rd....Keep it in your pants, no one here wants it....

JD, RHINO doesn't have a computer that doubles as an automatic coffee maker, he just thinks that the tray that slides out is a cup holder....
