I wonder how this is going to affect his performance review next year? Surprised

...and whatever happened to that libel suit filed against Ms. Wilson by Brandon Grace a few months ago?

What about the ethics charges against Cindy Wilson for illegally using campaign money to sue the County in SC Supreme Court? Oh the pain, the pain of it all!

Don't know, White Plains Drifter. Tell us all about it. Who filed it? When? What is the specific allegation?

Fascinating stuff. Flesh out the story for us, since you seem to be on top of it. Or just tell me your source and I'll do the story. Of course, that source can't be the person who FILED the complaint, you now.

The S.C. Ethics Commission actually considers it an ethics violation for the person who files an ethics complaint to talk about it before they're through investigating it. Dumb law, huh? It must be like a Grand Jury. They're all pledged to secrecy, simply because they're afraid somebody may be damaged in the public eye over a bogus allegation. What a bunch of wusses, looking out for possibly innocent people's reputations like that, huh?

Darnit, I'm already sitting on stories about two of those kinds of investigations over here in Pickens County right now because my only sources are parties to the investigation.

Laws. Who needs 'em? Surprised

I dunno about who filed the charges. I just read about them in the paper like everybody else. Kinda like I read all the crap about Preston. But if it's in the paper, it's gotta be true. Right JD?

Now. Back to what Deepthroat said this morning:

Below are some quotes from Bob Waldrep recorded on November 18, 2002 and printed on pages 562 and 563 of Richard Otter's "Anderson County Twentieth Century Memories and Reflections". These are Bob's reflections on his first term on Council in 1991-92:

"The County was in fiscal disarray. We had five councilmen and I think we did a lot to put the county on a fiscal basis that people could comprehend. We had an administrative form of government but the administrator had been totally emasculated. Council members were deciding where everything was going to be and how it was going to be done...............

David Watson was the county administrator. He had been curtailed and overruled to such an extent that he really was not calling the shots. Determinations were made by whomever constituted a majority of council. All you needed was three out of the five. I knew I had help from Republican Ed Allgood and we just had to get one more. We were able to persuade Harvie Bannister to come over. Harvie agreed that we were doing the right thing. At that time, I was a Democrat, Ed was a Republican and Harvie was a Democrat.

We would have Council meetings where people would accuse us of all kind of skulduggery for not going along with what they wanted. It was not pleasant at all. We felt like we were right and I think it formed a good basis for the future. I was a political science major and I knew we had a council/ administrator form of government that wasn't working the way it should. They were not allowing the system to work and what we were doing was really unlawful. After raising much cain and getting the ship back on course I think it set a good basis for the new council that came in. Council now is a very strong administrator type of government where the councilmen cannot meddle into the day to day affairs of the county. Our administrator has a pretty strong hand to do what he thinks is right"

This my fellow bloggers is not the same man who raided the finance department with Cindy Wilson and the Channel 7 reporter last December. It is not the same man who just ran the most negative political campaign in Anderson County history pledging to take back control from the county administrator. Nor is it the same man who last week hatched a plan to suspend the county administrator and finance director while a witch hunt is executed to find cause for their dismissal. It may never be publicly known what caused this pivotal transformation in the ideology of Bob Waldrep, but it certainly ranks among Anderson's greatest political disappointments and threatens to end a decade of remarkable achievement and advances. Many thanks to Richard Otter and others who chronicled this history of Anderson County for us all to peruse. We should all remember that those who choose to ignore to lessons of history are destined to repeat the mistakes they made.

Desperate men take desperate actions.
McNair has quite the conflict don't they?
I wonder how much this little stunt is going to cost us?
He should be fired. Obviously he can't work for the people that the county elects to represent them.

Obviously he can work for the people that the county elects to represent them. It's called The Body Politic. Not Ms. Wilson. Not Mr. Waldrep. The council as a whole.

Stroll back through time with me for a moment. In the late 1990's a fast food worker in Anderson, SC won a settlement against the local BK franchise for harrassment in the workplace. The settlement was awarded not because the employee was harrassed by her boss. She was actually harrassed by a customer. She complained to her boss who took no action to remedy the situation. She summarily sued her employer for failing to deal with the harrassing customer and thereby indirectly contributing to a hostile workplace. While BK had no direct authority to control the offending customer, the court found that they had a responsibility to protect their employees from a hostile work environment. Labor laws can be complex and a manager can never be too careful in trying to protect the rights of employees to a safe workplace. Failure to do so can earn you the title of " the Defendent". In the words of Deepthroat, "thoese who choose to ignore the lessons of history are destined to repeat past mistakes".

WPD, the charges were filed anonymously, in complete contradiction to SCEC rulkes. No telephone reorts are to be accepted, but these were, just weeks before the June primary.Imagine!
Ms. Wilson immediately provided documents from her attorney confirming his advice that she could in factuse those funds in that manner. So she actually went to the trouble to seek legal advice about her use of campaign funds? Imagine!
Nothing else has come of those allegations, andis unlikely to. they failed to serve their purpose, whcih was to try and hurtWilson before the primary. That was also the purpose of the Grace lawsuit, IMHO, and I suspect nothing more iwll come of that effort either. I also suspect youknew all that when you asked the question, you just didn't think anyone else did.White Plains ratchet jaw.

Joey ray may have a point when itcomes to Ms. Humphreys not being subject to the Council's direct control, but he certainly is. He can be suspended, with or w/o pay, or fired by a simple majority vote. This is a right to work state, and as such, that contract is useless. He may collect a pile of swag as he leaves, but if the vote is there, leave he will.

Sweet-p, Three of those he "can work for" received a vote of no confidence by being voted out so apparently the people in those districts feel differently about how things have been handled.

You will see more of these antics as November draws closer. It's just a foolish power play to avoid the inevitable future the management of the Administrator who has had free rein for a long time.

Perhaps, Jane. But perhaps the newly elected council members will be able to make their own informed decisions. Perhaps they will not allow the Driver crowd to lead them around by the nose. Perhaps we should all just wait and see instead of jumping to conclusions. There is too much of that around here anyway.

Sweet-p There are claims the "Driver crowd" is small in numbers so the actual influence they have(according to this blog) is therefore minimal at best. The people in 3 districts spoke and showed things must change. One could also say we hope JP doesn't find the new Councilman's weak spot and turn them to the dark side. This time however his actions may well backfire. Desperate men take desperate not well thought out actions.
Having Ms. Floyd face a good opponent wouldn't hurt either - SSHM's "call sign" about sums that seat occupancy up.
We will have to put up with these actions until Nov. then if things go as it appear they will from Nov - Jan will be smoking with stupidity.

Why don't we get Jimmy Carter to come broker a deal where all three of them resign and  bring peace to the County.

Hot Lips,

As sweet p suggests, let's wait and see.

I recall that Michael Thompson won the first time because he gave JP a zero rating. After one term he went 180 degrees and gave him a 10 out of 10.

Only The Shadow knows for sure. . .
