So, what you are saying, even if we 'drill, drill, drill' , the oil may be exported to other countries and have zero effect on our oil supplies.
It seems then that opening up more US areas to drill doesn't necessarily benefit US citizens, but definiterly will further benefit the oil companies that do so desparately need help.
Perhaps instead of asking those "evil" oil companies to explore for oil, we should ask those "evil" pharmaceutical companies explore for oil and let the oil companies makes drugs.
That way, everybody can lose out. Is that what we want here?

Oil companies are reporting record profits. More oil from off-shore, or Rocky Mountain shale, or ANWR will not end our dependence on oil. More oil on the market will reduce the price. Like more Nuke, wind, solar and coal use would do. But until Madam Speaker, SanFranNan allows debate, the US population will continue to see their standard of living fall.
President Bush issued the call to drill off shore. This and reduced consumption has driven down prices IMO
