(since our resident Joe McCarthy/Communist-want-to-censor the great folks in Anderson County, it's time for a Top 10 list)

Top 10 List of Anderson County: I Can't Believe These People Think They Are Credible or Relevant.

(Ask yourself ... what have these folks done for the county. Ask yourself ... are they educated. Ask yourself ... are they employed.)

Number 10
Kevin Bryant - While employed, we are hard-pressed to actually find anything "our senator" has done for the county, let alone his constituents in District 3. If his claim to fame is spending more time at the SC Policy Council Office rather than the floor of the Senate, then he could win an award. Alas, we're not giving out awards for being a senate truant.

Number 9
John Staed - One half of "team news editor" at the Independent Mail, Mr. Staed couldn't find anything positive about Anderson even if a press release were to walk up and smack him senseless. It appears you have to do what you must to sell newspapers. While the TV adage of "if it bleeds, it leads" does not exactly apply here, Mr. Staed uses the equivalent of "bleed" to "lead" in the papers.

Number 8
Charles Wilson - If there was ever living proof of a dinosaur, Charles Wilson would qualify as a grumpasaurous rex. Never have I met someone so down on where he lives or the state of his community as Charles Wilson. Really, if you sir are this down on this community, there are more than enough people willing to PAY FOR YOU TO LEAVE and take that grumpy, sour cloud with you.

Number 7
Rick Freemantle - Our resident "wreck-and-dismantle" expert has yet to ever win an election - EVER. Abraham Lincoln has a better track record at elections that wreck-and-dismantle. Do us a favor fellow Andersonians: Spend your money at the new Kohls rather than on "dismantles" elections campaigns.

Number 6
Eddie Moore -  Mr. Snore wakes up and finds himself at number six on our survey. From insulting and demeaning women to not bothering to check with the Highway Department about his missing signs and right-of-way, Mr. Moore might find a clue. We're betting it won't happen until January, 2011.

Number 5
Rick Driver - Anderson's original OMGITSLITTLEGREENMEN broadcaster somehow became the "single most credible source of knowledge of government malfeasants" sometime after 2000. Now how one goes from total conspiracy crackpot to Edward R. Murrow is beyond the realm of comprehension. Oh wait . . . that was dripping sarcasm . . .

Number 4
Charles Crow - All hail Davros. Oh wait, wrong board. The ancient architect of the CAVE lands here at number 4 on our survey. Aside from being Rick Driver's #1 caller, we're still not sure what Crow has done for anybody in the county for the last, oh, FIFTY years. He's just relevant enough to make this list ... not much more than that (including County Council meetings).

Number 3
Dan Harvell - The King of Aquanet, the "I've been bought and paid for by Howard Rich," and "I bear a STRIKING resemblance to John Kerry," lands here at Number 3. Rumor has it that Dan's speeches to council would be at LEAST entertaining if he would don a clown suit with a big red nose. Think about that: Visualize Dan Harvell as an overgrown clown . . . Yeah, I just spewed Pepsi too . . .

Number 2
M. Cindy Wilson - Anderson's resident teflon queen somehow manages to avoid having ANYTHING stick to her. From Beaverdam to 800MHz, Cindy somehow manages to step around things that would sink others. Then again, I have to believe the electorate that KEEPS electing her must believe you can sell icemakers to eskimos living in igloos living north of the Arctic Circle. Dumb dumb dumb . . .

/drumroll . . . . .

Number 1
Bob Waldrep - Who else could you place at the top of this list other that MISTER "MY DOG ATE MY ORDINANCE." Rip van Waldrep take the cake at somehow managing to both sleep through everything and collect an apparent record number of chairmanships of County Council. Will someone please buy an electric cattle prod from their rec fund and use it on Bob to keep him awake, please.

Not bad, but I think you're a bit off about Eddie Moore.  He was once an independent man from what I hear.  He wanted to do the right thing back when he first ran for this office.

Even when he ran as a petition candidate, I felt there was a whiff of indepence still left.

Now, he seems to be CAVE through and through... but he was pushed into that camp by overzealous Preston supporters fighting to keep Larry Greer 2 years ago.  Eddie got treated like an enemy and thus became one.

I was actually rooting for Eddie Moore while campaigning for Ed Jean against Cindy Wilson two years ago.  Larry has been the member of council most likely to support Cindy on "NO" votes if you look at his history.  An independent Eddie Moore would have been better for the County.

Now, we have the same man, with seemingly different views, some hostility towards county employees, and talking points that show no independence from Cindy Wilson and Bob Waldrep.  In fact, Eddie was at downtown sounds with a Waldrep just this past Thursday.

If there is one person in this county that I would label as a communist, it would be ...... bet you know exactly who don't you?  He/she hates everything that conservatives stand for and adores every left-wing liberal in the country.  He/she is a disgrace to these forums.  This county is made up by a majority of conservatives and he/she can't face that reality.  I invite him/her to join his/her comrades in CA where the communist party often parades down the main streets to the cheers of others of the same. I have rooted out a student of Karl Marx within us.  He/she does not belong here.  Go.

funny. You can tell very few Republicans are posting on this thread.  Me and prevail.

Funny again, SSHM, you have a terrible record in picking winners.  Did anyone that you picked to "win" even get 40%?

You are pathetic.  You think you are smart enough to pick a top 10 hit list?  Not hardly.

The top 10 people that we as a county need to get shed of doesn't need to be written.  It will be taken care of by itself, starting in January.  Three will be gone to start.  The others will leave because they won't be able to run over everyone as they have in the past.

Mark my words.............

SSHM,

I wanted to comment on your comment on another forum from earlier today, but can't find it so I'll do it here. You said that prevail needed some "re-education" which is in line with some previous comments you've made. You've said that Animal Farm is required reading, but from comments like that it seems like 1984 should also be required reading. It seems like I remember a lot of re-education going on in that book.

It's not surprising since some posters seem like they're not going to be satisfied with anything less than big brother government. I encourage you to look watch the video and read the article at this link http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/local/bal-mayor0807,0,4563211.story
to see what a possible outcome of big brother government is. The thugs claiming to be police and uphold the law in a "progressive" Washington, D.C. suburb busted in this poor guy's house, handcuffed his family, and killed his dogs. The saddest thing is the only reason this has made national news is because the guy was an elected official. I wonder how much it happens to regular people and goes unnoticed. Whatever happened to the doctrine that a man's home was his castle?

Your are correct Yankee.  Most Republicans have dropped out of the forums because the liberals will not accept real facts.  They love to twist a fact until it becomes a lie and they run with it then.  Republicans stand on the platform of doing what is right for America whereas, the liberals believe in the destruction of most ideals that have made America great.  I'm afraid they are winning and in a few years America as it was founded will cease to exist.

"America as it was founded" owned slaves, killed indians to steal their land, and executed witches. Is that what you're pining for?

Rome fell and we are heading down a similar path. Doomed doomed I say. The first thing we need to do is kill all the lawyers, then get rid of fast food, liquor & cigarettes (tobacco products) then make laws that people have to be within their weight allowance or pay penalties.Weekly drug tests for those on the public dole, jail if you fail 30 days. Jail would be a military boot camp. Mandatory military service for all people between the ages of 18 - 21- two years of discipline. No career politics. Campaign promises are contracts, breech of contract mean forfeiture of the office. I can go have breakfast at I hop I have solved our problems.

Lee,

If we are handing out a list of required reading, you need the following:

Animal Farm - George Orwell
1984 - George Orwell
Atlas Shrugged - Ayn Rand

What will those three books tell you when compared and contrasted with the current political climate here in Anderson County?

Animal Farm - Petty, revenge-based politics is unchanged.

1984 - Would never happen here as you actually have to provide government funding for 1984 to happen. As we all know, Andersonians are inherently cheap individuals and believe in underfunding just about everything.

Atlas Shrugged - The outbound class of county councilmembers represent the citizens that held up this community - the progressive efforts - were forced to shrug by the voters that bothered to show up June 10th.

Lee - the URL/story you provided is not an outgrowth of "big brother government." You can look to your own southern history and see examples of where identical behavior occured.

Bull Connor, Lee? Think, please . . . If fact Lee, if you go back to the 1960s, you can see where that "big brother government" took a VERY active role in STOPPING activities like that of Bull Connor and other racists, bigots, and generally evil people.

Sorry guys but you've tee'd it up for me. The following picture sums up how we got to where we are with regards to our local politics.

I think the county logo is - treat the people like mushrooms, keep them in the dark & feed em' poo. At least McDonald's hides the taste with special sauce.

SSHM,

We should also add Walter Edgar's history of South Carolina to our reading list. The history of our state could help you understand the prevailing thinking patterns of regular people, and the history of our government shows the reasons for many of today's problems. There's also a good quote that might apply to Anderson County. "A government that is not seen as legitimate by a significant portion of its people is vulnerable to insurgency" (pg. 386).

As for the link I provided about the mayor in Maryland, the cops in that county have obviously let their power go to their heads because this was not the first time something like this has happened. All the cops that took part in that raid need to be fired and the supervisor who ordered it needs to be held liable and criminally responsible to set an example.

Lee,

The problem now becomes the fact that the "thinking patterns of regular people" do not match with the "transparent and open government, begone with the 1895 Constitution" crowd.

In fact, understanding the 1895 Constitution is key if you intend to have any success from a legislative standpoint, either here in Anderson or across the state. Ask yourself this:

Who were the authors behind the 1895 Constitution?

Under what conditions were they writing said Constitution?

Why does the SC State Constitution of 1895 promote a decentralized power base?

Think about that ... make the logical leap ... and understand.

It also serves to explain why the Barnwell Ring was so successful for so many years.
