Pollyanna Post
2. We also asked for some extra signs for our county road and got them promptly. Thanks County Sign department.
I hope this will continue in hard economic times.

EllieFant, you said to me "Surely in a lifetime, you have found something good about Anderson County."
Ellie, I have lived in this county all my life except for a time I was in GA and AL, about 3 years total. The reason I am still here is that there are many many good things about our county. I, and many others like me, support and contribute to numerous needed things as Hospice, Good Will, Salvation Army and lots of others. It is what has happened to our county government that we are so concerned about but you have to be fairly active in following politics to fully understand. Regardless of your view this county has been hijacked by a few and we want our county back in the hands of honest people that will have what is best for the county as their goal and NOT what is best for me as their goal. If you read the local newspapers, watch news on TV and read the news on the internet, you will see other cities and counties in our state that are continually finding wrongdoing in their local governments. It happens. When so much money is available even good men and women often take the path of dishonesty and deceit to get their hands in the pot for personal use. It may be happening in Anderson as it is elsewhere. Over and over throughout history the basic truth still prevails: The love of money is the root of all evil.
Anderson County and the good citizens of our county are worth fighting for and that's what I am doing. There will be no personal gain for me except the knowledge that good government has been returned to the people.
The part of history that Mister Wilson is opting to gloss over is this:
This is the second time in about 20 years that the group we will, for brevity, simply refer to as the CAVE, have taken power. The good citizens are the silent majorty, not the vocal minority, that keep this community going. They are the small business owners, the families with the 2.5 kids, the retail consumers that keep Clemson Blvd running and humming in all its glory (didn't say it was PRETTY, just glorious).
Deepthroat has referenced the turning point that set Anderson County on-track to rapid growth and development. Our last "bad" audit was that turning point. The cronies and the anti-development/anti-growth crowd began their departure and decline with the rise of the Republican Party in Anderson County (thank you Bill McAbee and others in the EARLY days).
Needless to say, the political pendulum has moved back towards the anti-growth/anti-development crowd. The silent majorty has yet to be re-awakened.
Why?
(and this is where I post the good in Anderson County and refrain from hijacking your thread Ellefant
)The continued growth and development of Anderson County. Retail, retail, retail ... the continued growth and development of quality of life. The normalization of Anderson County into Anywhere, USA. Don't get me wrong: Our history and traditions make us unique and, in my opinion, make us stand above the rest.

ellefant, you have taken up my song. I have been known as somewhat of a Pollyanna around here. I have become so disheartened that I have not posted as often.
I too moved back here after many years away in a very conservative but progressive state. It was with much trepidation that I did so. I now admit to days I see the glass half full and other days half empty.
You are a breath of fresh air. I hope you will join us at the next bloggers lunch so we can get acquainted.
SSHM, Please don't forget planning ,planning, planning
Finding good things about Anderson County is easy. Just look around you. We have a great library, the sports areas at the Civic Center are teeming with activity, the musuem is a wonderful glimpse into Anderson's past.
Our hospital offers local, high quality care. The cancer center in particular is a gem. Our non-profits are fantastic. Hospice House, Anderson Cancer, Anderson Interfaith Ministries, Calvary Home for Children, and on and on and on.
We have a fine group of citizens involved in civic organizations such as Keep America Beautiful. There are grassroots organizations such as the Homeland Park Task Force founded by fellow bloggers Wyatt & Angel.
Elliefant, there are always people who choose to dwell on the negative. Let's not let them get us down. We know there are good--make that great--things about Anderson.
Is it perfect? No. Is there room for improvement? Of course. Keep the accent on the positive. Accept that there will always be naysayers. Keep on keeping on...
Maybe people argue these points because they believe Anderson is a great place and want it to be better than the messy, "good ol' boy" system we have in place? We all live here by choice, job, family, retirement, so most of us like Anderson.
Okay my contribution - Botanical Garden walks all year!
" I for one would like to see more positive comments about our county, our elected officials, and the citizens of Anderson County. My mother always told me if you can't say something nice about someone don't say anything at all."
HA!
You're actually suggesting that we complement these turds that mass stupidity has elected? I guess in the name of politeness you're just gonna poke your head in the sand and pretend all is well as taxes go up and up? It's good to have a place where we can make unmoderated comments about what we think of our government and elected officials. Has it ever occurred to you that this forum wouldn't hardly exist if not for our local government's gross incompetence and the legions of the mentally challenged who elected them? Believe it or not, several local govt officials read this to see what people think about them, and maybe having this info and these opinions about them and their decisions in public view, may make them reconsider many of their future boneheaded decisions and actions. Its OUR money, not theirs and they need to be held accountable for their incompetence at every turn, in every way, shape and form possible. Why don't you try to force accountability for once? Passive attitudes like yours are the reason government is in a mess from the federal to the local level. I guess your mother taught you not to stand up for yourself, to shut-up and bend over and take it didn't she? As a kid you didn't even fight back when bullied did you?
If you can't say somthing nice don't say nuttin?
thats how sheep are made.
plug your ears and shove your head in the sand.
the others wanna see whats happening in the county and the world.

Oh another good thought - looks as if we will have three new councilmen this year.
Yea if they work good together they will become GOOD OLE BOYS to some.
I really wish more people were posting on this topic. In a very short time the spouted vile retorts on some posts becomes repetitive and boring. Give it a rest!
Why can't we think positive. I know the heat is frying our brains and the air we are breathing is unhealthy, but seriously (and if we are to be taken as such) things need to simmer down a bit. That would be really positive.

We've tried to be one of the group with "something nice to say"about Anderson, and it's subsidiary neighborhoods for a while now. Unfortunately, our little group, to not put too fine a point on it, is "pissin' in the wind". Nobody "likes" Homeland Park, nor feels it has any redeeming value or worth. This reflection is felt from cops, presumptive council members and the public at large. When the name Anderson comes up in casual conversations, the responses range from " Oh, didn't you USED to have a Ballonfest" or " isn't that the place with the freaky fish statues all over?" or commonly "oh you are where all that council crap is always happening..." Our direct involvement with HPTF has often been met with similar responses like " Why bother trying to do anything over THERE?" or "you're just wasting time, nothing good comes out of Homeland Park".
So based on general concensus, lack of positive spin, and replies from those like HANKEY or Prevail, we all should just do like our President has done for 8 years....ignore the issues, pat ourselves for doing such great deeds and pretend all is fine with the world ( and hope the next elected officials do a better job...)
Yeah......good luck on that one!
Well, that took longer than I expected before somebody took a misguided cheapshot at George Bush for absolutely no reason while whining about how hard it is to be taken seriously.
Maybe the board is returning to sanity.
This is a very good thread, Ellie. Thanks or starting it, but good luck on keeping it positive and local with this bunch of chronic cynics.
I'll GLADLY step forth with some good things I wish to share with the class;
1) David Crenshaw and his command staff. We've had thepleasures of workingclosely with about 1/2 dozen of the heirarchy of ACSD over the past few years. While everyone is eager to trounce DC for the financial debacle and rise in budget, he also has dramatically reduced the call response times, provided BETTER personal contact and community support, and has never closed his doors to our commentary or concerns, not ONCE. Working with those like Chad McBride, Capt. Black and so many others made us proud to have such dedicated officers working right here in our little ghetto.
2) Joey Preston. Now before all you yahoo's jump in and start with all your Joey-hatin', I think Mr. P has done well with what he is offered as cooperative leadership and societial support. In such an economically-devoid society America is in, this county could well be in FAR WORSE shape than we are. Far worse folks, think long and hard about other regional areas in the South who offer similar benefits and development, but have WORSE employment numbers, far more foreclosures and have not had any new employers, businesses or proposed changes occur.at all ( Darlington County, Marlboro, Richland, even golden child Charlston has bad numbers)
3) Volunteers. While our HPTF is on the short end of getting needed volunteers it needs, there is a great community support for things when the issues present themselves.
4) The Animal Shelter. I simply love the folks who endure the agony and heartache working in that place! Michele and Sherry ( both Micheles and Sherrys) work tirelessly and without much community support to help as many animals as they can. I pray that nobody f*cks up the proposed new shelter for them AND all those cats, dogs and large animals.
5) AIM and the Senior staff. Nick and Butch have been very supportive of our b*tch-site here, and allowed us the playground to vent, refute and debate without being severely censored or spanked too often ( well, at least most of us have anyways...)
....ignore the issues, pat ourselves for doing such great deeds and pretend all is fine with the world ( and hope the next elected officials do a better job...)
are you freaking for real?
you are a total dip sit ynot.
ignore the issues????? when????
pretend all is fine with the world ???? when?
you and your like minded tools are such twits that Mr. Hankey can not stand to eat with you due to the fact that you make real Americans sick.
