Thank you JD, I hadn’t thought I had resorted to any of those antics as they are ineffective but whatever it takes.

I have heard from reliable sources that Ms. Walukewicz can freeze a glass of water from 10 feet away simply by glaring at it over her reading glasses. I think I would just do what she wants, safer that way. Laughing

Sorry JD I expect when someone gets and answer they remember what they asked and what the answer they got. You're right, sometimes you have to repeat yourself.

Okay Nicole, First of all I am NO LONGER with the ACHS. I resigned off the board almost 2 1/2 yrs ago. Before you ask,I left due to personal reason.Even though I am not with the ACHS I still do my part. You are taking what I am saying the wrong way.I was trying to say that you cannnot get what you want by pissing off the people who can get it for you. When someone says "Please give us a little time to work on it" Does not mean you go and start badmouthing them. Anyone who knows me will tell you that I will fight with my last breath for ANY animal, small or large.I do however know that there has to be a give and take.I also know that MANY of the County employees want a holding area for large animals. What I am trying to say is just because it is not in the first phase does not mean that they are not going to do it. Oh and as far as leaving politics out of it,who called who on a Saturday night and said " I am waiting for Cindy Wilson to call me back after she gets off the phone with Bob Waldrep" Oh thats right it was yo..So please dont tell me you are not playing politics. The conversation we had that night was about the holding area.
By the way I stopped stomping my feet years ago.I find its easier to get whats needed by not burning my bridges..

The address listed for the Anderson County Humane Society is a business, Alpha Technologies owned by Dennis Tate. They pay over 23K in taxes every year to the county. The web site for the ACHS does not list officers, all links seem to go to Petfinders, Inc. Can anyone explain?

The new shelter includes a low cost spay neuter clinic that Angela Wallace is to run. Do they have a plan & budget they want to share? How will this work? Do they free lease the space from the county? How are they raising money for this and can they afford the costs? Can anyone answer what the deal is they made with the county to get this facility. Are the costs going to fall back on taxpayers? Just asking.

The address you have listed is actually where the president Wanda Crane runs her business with her husband. The ACHS has a PO BOX,seeing as they have no physical address. I will call Angela to see if I can the info you are asking about.

Yes Angel ( oops, Mrs. Montepara, now that we no longer need screen names here...)  I recall that late evening call from Nicole W. about how important this issue was to MCW and waiting ( and still waiting) for MCW or BW  to return that very call concerning how this will all play out.  Been several months, hasn't it?  Maybe MCW is a bit busy with other legal matters to return our calls? And maybe BW is asleep somewhere.   Don't recollect a return call from PEARL about it either.  Oh well, we address our concerns to Council (with achy-breaky foot-stomping) somewhat differently.   But not to worry, we're in the phone book!  Sure that call is coming momentarily.......

To address the rest of your reply.  Our contact with the ACHS is limited.  We chose to no longer participate in the partisan politics which permeated the group since the introduction of another rescue group to ACHS's rhelm.  Once it became more important to make money off selling animals instead of saving lives, we left completely. And that would help explain why we're left with dozens of Humane Society animals in our charge. Because we don't make money off animals like another local group does.  We're more interested in a safe environment, a low cost and a dedicated new family than if we make $80-$100 off a sale. As JD likes to point out, we didn't shut up, play along and got shut out.  And because we don't receive any funding, grants, loans or other support or can afford to enact another 501(c-3) program to get funds, we simply are not involved with groups like ACHS or UAR any longer. We support, in our own ways, the efforts of groups willing to work with Council and County for the best overall solutions. The suggestions made about working with Clemson University and a workig horse farm/holding area also came up during the Gloden Corral meeting a few months' ago, yet heard nothing about that from your group.  As we don't know anyone associated with CU or TCC, we can't help with that avenue. Our aspect of animals is with SMALL ones.  So if you choose to not want our help, so be it.  Just refrain from those 10:00 pm calls please.

Sucessfully making waves and making headway for 10 years.   The Montepara Family

Doreen - Every member of the County Council knows what we have asked for on behalf of the Sheriff's Office. I will try every avenue there is to pursue this including our US Senators.
Yes I was waiting to hear from Ms. Wilson after she hasdreceived a suggestion also received by several other County Council members. At least she responded. Only she and Mr. Walderp attempted to include this facility that is needed in the bond. Oddly I believe it was you that asked why they didn’t support the large animal issue. What I meant by "keep the politics out of this" is that given the current County Council it has been suggested that the vote will fail because of the acrimonious relationships not because the need is not there. That is what happened.
I am unaware I have "bad mouthed" any one most especially the Animal Shelter. You are exposing half our conversations and only the half that suits your purpose here to discredit PEARL and our efforts. The other half would be potentially damaging to a great need in our county. I know the blog is a place where much dirt is slung and that is why I try to remain on course with what PEARL has done, is accomplishing and wants to accomplish. I know what “rants and flames”” are and try to avoid those that participate in that style of blogging. It is unproductive.

BTW - cogats on the camera for the fire department. What a great tool to have in such a heavily populated area! Good work!

First off, it is a TOS violation to be using personal names and posting such information online Nicole. Clearly you should be aware of that. Addressing specific blog threads to an individual is also a TOS violation.  Just FYI.

I know all about "rants and flames". Have heard endlessly about that non-politics stuff from folks like Mary Wilson and other things which made politics even more present in this issue. I won't get all into that aspect either, as this is to address the issue of animals and not the interpersonal workings of relationships and politics.   I beg to differ with your assessment of whom you "badmouthed" about support. But thats neither here nor there in respect to our support of YOUR effort to address the animal holding facility. We've never "dissed" the project, just your mishandling of the matter .  Saying we're saboutaging your efforts is clearly another misinformation being posted here.  We posted what was said and what DIDN'T transpire as stated.  After three months, still no call from our "staunch supporter Cindy Wilson" or Bob Waldrep. They may have responded to you, but we're not on their "top 5 list" either.

But besides that,  No "Doreen" didn't advocate specifically for the large animal portion Nicole, she advocated for the SHELTER, PERIOD. She has been a strong advocate for a better environment for 1/2 a decade & her involvement goes back more than 5 years with  documentation, petitions and photo-presentation to Council about the Jockey Lot animal sales. Her information was part of the presentation made to make adjustments to legislation lacking about large animal laws and small animal sales.  THAT was our catalyst for becoming involved.  Her discussions with Gracie Floyd, Michael Thompson, Joey Preston, Environmental Enforcement Division and TWO previous Shelter managers( Dorothy Strewing and  Rick) before speaking with Michele Dodd, led to our involvement and support for this matter as a whole.  The undoubted 'suggestion' you refer to was likely from us to begin with.  We are already aware that incoming Council will be as helpful and supportive as a boil on the behind, and while it seems to be a done deal with the shelter it always amazes me at how the Council can f*%k up a wet dream.  That money could magically vanish into paying for......a $2.5 million dollar audit!!!

Oh, you forgot your tagline.....I kinda liked it!

First let me set the record straight.. In no way shape or form am I trying to discredit PEARL. There is only one animal rescue group I discredit in Anderson. I also never stated it was anyone from the shelter that you have badmouthed. I was very simply stating that I know where told that they were working on plans to help with the large animals. Ms.Wilson was one of the council members who wanted to hear nothing about changing the animal regulations. See the point I am getting at is if the county had the regulations in order the the county would have no choice but to have a place to keep the animals.US senators are not going to change county regs. When I spoke to the council it was about the shelter & the school zoning. By the way GOOD LUCK with the new council, they have their own agendas..You need to understand I am not saying I am against PEARL or having a holding facility for large animals, I am saying there is a way to get what you want & need, and I have already explained that.

BTW- I am also glad to see that HP fire dept got their camara, but I had nothing to do with that.It was donated by Firehouse subs on Clemson Blvd. All the kudos goes to them.

Agreed Angel,  the infrared camera imaging device was given via FIREHOUSE Subs, corp.  and the great support from them.  We, the Homeland Park Task Force, had absolutely no input or supplied this piece of equipment,  Just so THAT piece of disinformation doesn't start floating about!!!  We only take credit for things we ACTUALLY accomplish or do.

You and your wife have made your personal names known through all the good efforts that you make with Homeland Park. That is no secret. And keep at it, your approach is the best one, never quit in the face of adversity.

If you are speaking of Mary Wilson the former Animal Control Officer who faces charges in this county, you would be correct, she caused more problems for some personal agenda the courts will have the chance to rule on. That is also public record. However if you propose that one persons illegal activity or agenda dictates the actions of a county vs. the best interest of a county you have just made a huge statement about all that is wrong with what is happening here. Again thank you.
This is as far as I go with this kind of post. Your intent is clear and one I will not participate in. It is clearly not in the best interest of all the animals.

Regards,
Nicole

Be gone foul beasts. Y'all wouldn't know gracious if you bit yourselves in your own "azzes" and made yourselves look bad, which you did, again . Quit before you loose support for your own cause.

Sorry, not going anywhere.... Gracious,my azz ..I did not make myself look bad,if you do not like what I have said then to bad.I check my facts before I post anything. Can you say the same?I thought NOT.By the way,why do you have to post under two different names? As nobody knows who you really are.As far as my group,I do not need your advice or support,as I do not get involved with trouble makers and backstabbers.Worry about your own group, which by the way would get much more support if you did not piss everyone off. Have a lovely day.

Like I need lessons about grace from JaneDOPE!  Someone  who incessantly "casts away" those who aren't aligned with the Driver crowd and 19th century puritanical prudishness. Her posts are full of evil nonsense and negative responses towards everyone who doesn't suck their "thumbs-down".  And speaking of thumbs, stop wasting time going through ALL the threads and doing so. It shows your immaturity level more than your intelligence level. Not difficult to figure out who's lost "support" here, the one who has to pad her own posts with support!  But really, thanks for being anonymous. A better use for that thumb is to stick it!

Don't bother, I'll plus my own posts dearie.

I don't even listen to WAIM as you seem to do.
I think the system is dumb but as we have it we should all give ourselves thumbs up. If you don't agree with yourself, who do you agree with? <g>.

Yesterday I forgot to pass on a great idea of what a shelter can be beside just a sad holding facility. It was sent in by Dr. Rebecca Gimenez. I have forwarded this to the county but thought I would share it here as well.

http://www.lollypop.org/

It would be wonderful to take the 12 acres and include a "petting zoo" featuring some of the local farm animals in our county and maybe the owners of some of the more exotic animals would lend them to the "farm" for a couple weeks as well. We would love to see educational programs made available through the shelter. I failed to notice if classrooms were included in the plans. Dog obedience classes seem like a natural. Our local veterinarians are very agreeable to giving talks on subjects. PEARL had one of the 4-H groups out to talk about the effects of starvation on a horse, how to body score a horse and we even discussed euthanasia as that is a sad but real outcome for some horses. Dr. Keith Stafford led the discussion. He is very supportive of our efforts. I feel sure we could have programs with small animal veterinarians and different trainers.

This would give the Shelter a lot of positive public awareness and bring more people in. More people could mean more adoptive homes. These are the kind of ideas that we discuss to try to improve the lives of adoptable animals.

Does anyone know if the old shelter is to be used by animal control or torn down?
