I had a friend send this along to me. Here is how a PROFESSIONAL ADULT deals with substantial issues:

Media Alert and Press Release

July 22, 2008

Anderson, SC- Marshall Meadors, candidate for State Senate District 3 issued the following statement regarding Kevin Bryant’s recent blog post; “On Friday, July 18, my opponent, Kevin Bryant, posted a tasteless, inappropriate picture on his blog depicting Osama Bin Laden and Barack Obama as being separated only by a little BS. The posting has been picked up by national news services and blogs and is now being sent around the world on the internet.”

“Not only is this offensive to all Americans and shows extreme insensitivity regarding the old racial and cultural stereotypes we have been struggling to change, but it also brings ridicule to South Carolina and the people of Anderson County. It is the same kind of poor judgment we have seen over the last four years and shows Mr. Bryant’s complete lack of understanding of the issues that are of real importance to the people of Anderson County and South Carolina: education, health care, economic development and the environment.”

Meadors continued, “This lack of good judgment and the atmosphere it creates are reasons I am running for the State Senate. My opponent’s actions show a kind of political arrogance that has created an atmosphere where politics takes precedence over policy. This preoccupation with political advantage at the expense of substantive dialogue on the issues illustrates why we are making such slow progress with the improvement of our public schools, the provision of health care, the creation of new jobs and the protection of our natural resources. It is conduct unbefitting any elected official, particularly a member of the South Carolina Senate.”

He continued, “When elected, I will spend my time in the Senate seeking to earn the trust of Andersonians and South Carolinians by working to improve our State and create opportunities for our families. I am determined to see improvement in our public schools; provide access to our health care for approximately 700,000 uninsured or under insured individuals in our state; bring new and higher paying jobs to Anderson and South Carolina, and put policies in place to protect our natural resources and environment. It is time for a change and a new direction in Columbia.”

Marshall Meadors purports to speak for "all" Americans, as in, "...Not only is this offensive to ALL AMERICANS ..."

Isn't that what the original Anderson County Taxpayers Association caught so much grief about? Are we going to be consistent here and call his hand on it, or let it go? Innocent

Wait, wait! Meadors is a Democrat. I know the answer to that question already. Never mind. Laughing

Jeez JD . . .

Sooo bitter these days. Someone change the brand of coffee at your local Hardees or something? Tell you what: If this offends you so much, draw a smaller Venn Diagram, m'kay?

I know more folks that agree with this press release than folks that think you are both fair and open-minded.

Did you diagram that, JD?

It didn't offend me, SSHM. I was just pointing out a double standard to you. Meadors can speak for "all Americans" if he wants to, just as Harvell and Crowe can speak for "the taxpayers of Anderson County."

And just as Kevin Bryant can post whatever he wants to on his personal blog.

So you want to rehash ALL of the double-standards from the 2008 election season? Or shall we just ignore this one, as I am tired of screaming "double-standard," only to be greeted with either a "duh-huh" or no response at all.

Then again, I think it would be funny for SSHM to "win" a censure from the ACRP . . .

Well, we do have something in common, SSHM. I'm still waiting for MY censure from the Republican Party for saying prior to the June 24 runoff that I've voted for Democrats before and probably will vote for Democrats again. How 'bout that?

Political party censure? Do yo get a piece of paper or something from them that you can drop on the floor in front of them and pee on?

I'm not sure, Zn, but I think it's something like that. Raymond MacKay got one, remember, so we'll have to ask him what he did with his.

I once got "censured" by our local Pickens County Public Service Commission, but I'm still waiting for something I can frame. I was luckier than our former County Administrator, Tom Hendricks, though. He actually got a letter from the idiot chairman of that Commission noting that he was being "censored."

That took away about 80 percent of Hendricks' really funny jokes, but he still had enough good Bob Nash/Joey Preston stories to keep us amused. Wink

Censored uh?
Did he correct it, wipe his rear end with it then send it back to him postage due?

JD,

You are not that important. Why would the ACRP care who you vote for. You don't even live in Anderson, and you are not running for a republican seat. I can't believe you have nothing better to do than yap on this blog 24/7.

Get a life.

They shouldn't care who I vote for any more than they care who MacKay voted for in the Presidential lprimary, Yankeefan. That's the point I was making. Why do you ask? (You do realize, of course, that the candidates on the ballot in this year's Presidential primary in Pickens County were the same ones y'all had in Anderson County, don't you?)

I'm down to 22/6 on the blog. I'm working on it. And I have plenty of other things do to (go Red Sox, for example.)

So what Meadors (or whoever wrote this for him) is really saying:

"I'm appalled at this comparison on Bryant's website. I want to make sure to play this up as much as possible because I can relate it to race, and I need all the black votes I can get in November to have a chance at winning.

"Osama or Obama neither one have anything to do with SC State government, so let me switch in this second paragraph to how Kevin Bryant is a sorry Senator.

"Bryant is a bad Senator because he doesn't comprimse his principles easily enough and doesn't play Columbia political games well. He has refused to follow the status quo on education and doesn't believe that raising taxes is the key to solving all our state's problems. This kind of behavior is unacceptable.

"When elected, I will continue sending millions of dollars to our state's failing public schools in hopes that we might jump from 50th to 49th in the nation; raise taxes on small businesses and those who already have health insurance so that those who do not have it can buy some; bring more government jobs to Anderson County, and increase state environmental regulations which will slow economic development and increase the size of government. It's time for Anderson County to have another Senator who's anti-reform, committed to the good ole boy status quo, and wants to raise our taxes even more!"

One a side note now... Lee, do you let a stockbroker fix your car? Then why do you think politicians have any hope of fixing the schools? They have no clue, and if they did they would realize that its the PARENTS who are the root of the problem, not the educators and teachers who the politicians and parents blame while they tie their their hands behind their backs. Politicians setting policies for the schools is like letting the passengers on the short bus drive the bus, nothing good is going to happen and its just going to get really ugly really fast. Has it ever occurred to you that these a-holes we elected in Columbia actually created these "problems" with their regulations and now they try to convince you that they have the answers to the very problems they themselves created. Meanwhile they secretly harbor the hope that you're dumb enough to believe that they have the answers so you'll send them back to Columbia next term and prevent them from having to get a real job and just repeat the cycle. Don't trust ANY of them. Now with that in mind, Bryant meddling in education just proves what we all already know, the man has shit for brains.

Give it up Prevail and Lee. Just admit that Kevin has crossed the line on this one. I'll repeat myself on this one. Nobody is saying Kevin the man did not have the right to slander whichever politician he wants. However, if he does so publicly, with his Senate nametag on (as he campaigned at the polls for the dishonorable Bob Waldrep and slandered Joey Preston), then he must ACCOUNT for his actions as our SENATOR. The politically prudent thing to do as a seated Senator would be to publicly focus on your own race, and let your hacks (he's got plenty - a magistrate and a US Senate staffer for starters) do your dirty bidding. However, if you choose to put yourself out there with some slanderous nonsense on your blog right below your smiling face saying re-elect me, then you deserve whatever you get. For the charge of "Conduct unbecoming of the South Carolina Senator", we the people's court fine Kevin Bryant to be guilty as charged. Kevin, sometimes you just have to do the right thing and admit the you were wrong when you clearly are wrong. Or in other words, when you find yourself in a hole, quit digging. You are the elected representative of all of your district, including people of color and people of different religions from you and the fundamentalist right that you spend every waking moment pandering to. Act like it.
