While in my favorite coffee shop, a conversation started among some Anderson County officials. The discussion can be summarized as follows:

Ms. Cindy Wilson and Mr. Bob Waldrep have succeeded in repeating allegations time after time until the public accepted them as truth. Part of the problem was the Independent Mail inability to present our side of the story. So, while their radio talk show continued to spread the allegations, we did not have an equal voice to defend us. However, most of the problem was due to Mr. Joey Preston’s lack of patience with what he considers stupid questions. Mr. Preston will need to change his methods of responding to allegations. Each time Ms. Wilson requests a special time on the agenda to raise questions against the Administration, Mr. Preston will need to request equal time to introduce power point presentation, answering each question in the clearest terms.

Weather it be power point or just answer the question just get it answered. It does not matter how stupid a question might be his refusal to answer them makes it look like he is hiding something weather he is or not. He should brake his answer down into the simplest of terms so it does not lead to any reason of doubt or confusion about it. He could make his life so much easier if he would just pull his head out of his ass and stop being so pig headed. He has no one to blame but himself for being in the situation he is looking at than himself. I learned a long time ago when you work for some one or with some one and they are looking to put your head on a plater don't fight them on every little thing it only makes you look bad. I am not saying you have to kiss up to them but if they ask for information give it to them if you do not you look like the problem not them.

I don't think I'd use PowerPoint.  Councilmember Wilson may be too distracted by the Magic Screen With Changing Pictures to pay attention to the answer, since she "[doesn't] know how to turn on a computer" (WSPA-TV: June 3, 2008).

Maybe they should install a fax machine at her desk in the Council chambers.  Preston could print out the presentation and send it that way.  Word has it that she has that technology down pat.

One of Preston's main problems is that he does not appear knowledgeable enough about the subject of the questions that Cindy and Bob have asked him.  I have noticed that Preston almost always passes the question on to one of his department heads, who are required to attend the council meetings, and Preston usually does not enter into the questions and answers now directed to the department head.  Yet, Preston will not allow Cindy or Bob to go directly to a department during working hours and ask questions.  This is illegal, in my opinion, that our elected officials cannot keep informed on county business unless they go through Preston.  By using PowerPoint to answer questions will only cost taxpayers more money and waste council time.  Preston should be required to answer all questions directed to him by elected council members.  The county attorney should not be allowed to sit by the administrator and whisper to Preston as to how he should reply to something.  The Party is over, now let's get back to county business.

OMG! I can't believe I just read that! I have been to so many council meetings where Ms wilson does not seem to know what to do with the answers to the questions she asks, I have often wondered if someone just gives her a list of questions because she sure doesn't seem prepared to process the answers.
And I have heard more than one dept head complain that they have asked and invited her to their dept to talk to them and she has refused every invitation yet continued to slam them. You have your facts backwards sir.

Art, so accordingto your post, Joey's side is your side. Well, if Joey wants equal time, I bet Stan Welch would love to have him come on the radio. So would Rick Driver for that matter. And Joey's problem isn't with someone asking stupid questions. Joey's problem is that anyone would dare to question him. When he was at Cehrokee county, he wouldgetso angry he would throw things at the reporters. And that is straight from one of the reporters involved. Joey doesn't like being questioned, and that is probably his biggest single problem, since a lot of elected officials have the silly idea that he should be ready to answer their questions.

"Ms. Cindy Wilson and Mr. Bob Waldrep have succeeded in repeating allegations time after time until the public accepted them as truth. Part of the problem was the Independent Mail inability to present our side of the story".

Mr. Preston has AIM, a FM radio station and the public checkbook to present his "truth". His suppoters still lost the recent election. It's time for another plan...what could it be?

OK. Time to call Bulls--t! Somebody's talking about something they know nothing about. Yes, Joey is self-confident and comes across as arrogant. No, he does not respect Cindy because neither she nor Bob have shown him any respect. He respects their position (Council representative) but not them personally. They, on the other hand, have shown ZERO respect for Him or his position (Administrator). They have publicly and repeatedly accused him of embezzlement, misappropriation and exceeding his authority - without ANY evidence. Personal respect is quite separate from respect of the office. If Cindy and Bob want personal respect, they should try earning some. A good starting point would be to stop attacking Preston's integrity. They might not like Joey's style, but to accuse him of criminal wrong doing without any evidence is unethical, immoral and unchristian. To hear them pray before a council meeting and then launch into all out character assassination after the pledge of allegiance is the ultimate in hypocrisy. And it certainly doesn't earn them the personal respect they so covet.

As for the ban on Council members talking to division/department heads, that is pure POPPYCOCK. Make NO MISTAKE, I know what I'm talking about on this false claim. Division Directors and Department Heads routinely meet and talk with Council members. For Bob and Cindy to say otherwise is FALSE. As for Preston deferring specific technical questions to Division Directors or Department heads, that's just good management. Management 101 prescribes that successful managers delegate details. Who's better equipped to answer Cindy's question about how many cats were processed at the animal shelter last month? The County Administrator or the Animal Shelter Manager?

Give it a rest folks. This sorry hand of poker has gone on long enough. All the cards have been dealt. The pot's right. Time for everybody to lay down their cards. And as always, the cards will speak for themselves.

White Plains Drifter:  When did MCW and Waldrep accuse Preston of embezzlement?  You should be able to give an instance since you said "publicly and repeatedly."

I missed the embezzlement allegations, too. What did that happen?

Art,

How right you are! The "fine art" of repeating lies enough times so that a majority of the people take it for truth was perfected by none other that Karl Rove. He is now officially an adviser for John Mc Cain. Expect more of the same.
I hope the bloggers here will try to seek the truth in both candidates and choose wisely. The Party affiliation is not the only thing to look for in a candidate for POTUS.

Came to me from a reliable source this week. I truly hope that Bob did not make such an outlandish assertion. But the history of Bob and Cindy and their stunts and personal attacks on Joey Preston makes just about any rumor about something they supposedly said plausible. Embezzlement would be impossible given the checks and balances in place at the County. But the realm of possibility has never come into play in the past when Cindy lets her accusations fly. Might as well throw in embezzlement too. She's accused him of paying prostitutes with county funds and taking real estate kickbacks. These two characters are over the top.

White Plains Drifter, if C.Wilson or Bob Waldrep had "very publicly and repeatedly" accused Joey Presto of embezzlement, it would seem to me you wouldn't need a "reliable" source to verify that. All of us - or at least most of us - would have heard it.

You have just stated an exagerated rumor as fact while you were complaining about somebody else using exaggerate rumors as facts. That's not a very smart thing to do. I'll call your bull**** and raise you a fact.

By the way, Petunia, that "fine art" you described of repeating lies often enough that they become facts in many minds was not perfected by Karl Rove. It was perfected by Democrats in Congress during the Reagan administration, refined by Newt Gingrich and Lee Atwater to help Republicans when it became obvious the Democrats' gameworked, refined by James Carville and George "Doogie" Stephanapoulos during Clinton's presidency, and enthusiastically used by both parties nowadays.

There seems to be an effort here to to focus on one sentence of White Plains post, which I agree may have been exaggerated, instead of the fact that - and remember I am not a big name caller and try to avoid the mud slinging- prevails post is full of bold faced lies and misrepresentations of the truth.

I have read and re-read Prevails post, and I see it simply as an expression of an opinion. It is perhaps wrongheaded at times (the county attorney sits by the County Administrator at Council meetings because that's what he's SUPPOSED to do), and fails to recognize the fact that the reason an Administrator hires competent department heads is so he doesn't have to be knowledgeable on every little detail of every single department.

BUT - it's still opinin. It is not filled with "bold-faced lies" and "misrepresenations of the truth." Now, it may be loaded with political spin, but if that's White Plains Drifter's complaint about, I would suggest that's like the pot calling the kettle black. (By the way, does anybody have another cliche for that?)

Somewhere between what the Prestonistas say about Joey and what the CAVE'ers say about him is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. I personally suspect it'll all sort itself out over the next year, and it'll be fun to watch. I suspect that both sides will be proven right in some areas, and both sides will be proven wrong in some areas. And, no matter what Chicken Little says, the sky will not fall on Anderson County.

Blogger you say the statement made by white plains drifter is "exagerated."  The statement is pretty strong, even when directed at a politician.

Tis sad theres so many personal attacks in todays politics.

RE: my quote "They have publicly and repeatedly accused him of embezzlement, misappropriation and exceeding his authority - without ANY evidence." You busted me JD. Misappropriation and exceeding authority claims have indeed repeatedly and publicly come out of the mouths of Cindy and Bob at Council meetings. That is fact. While Cindy has implied embezzlement in the past, she never directly called it that. The absurb "Embezzlement" claim was unconfirmed hearsay that someone claimed was being cooked up by Bob and Cindy as a bogus reason for attempting to terminate the Administrator's contract. However, I find the hearsay to be plausible in light of the malicious claims about the Administrator in Bob's negative campaign piece. Such claims would be in line with Wilson and Waldrep's past behavior towards Joey Preston. I will strive to be more factual in the future. However, keep your ears perked for the "E" word from the Wilson/Waldrep camp.

I too believe that sometime within the next year it will be sorted out, but take note of this.

One group states that JP has placed us (Anderson County) into a financial nightmare.
One group believes that JP is a wonderful manager that has done great things with managing AC's personnel and money.

I believe a jump to replace JP would cause Anderson County to spiral downward. The staff that is in place is doing a good job with meeting obligations.
That being said I believe that council (as a whole) should control spending, and debt reduction should be a priority. Have the audits as requested or required to make the new council comfortable. There is no reason this can't be done with the present administration.

You're implying that the County Administrator is the "heart" of Anderson County, A-venter. I would beg to differ with you on that. If he is, then Anderson County already had a "heart transplant" about 12 years ago. It didn't work. Wink
