Obama wants you to speak Spanish.....

Io, sorry about the "moon" reference. See, Io is one of the moons of Jupiter, named after the Roman god Jupiter (also known as "Jove.")

In Greek mythology, Io was a priestess of Hera who was seduced by Zeus, who then turned her into a heifer. (I don't know why.)

In other words, Io, never mind.

As for demands, Io, you may not be aware of it, but if somebody shows up at, say, an Anderson County Council meeting and speaks only Spanish, the county (and, by extension, the taxpayers) are required by law to provide a translator - at taxpayer expense. In some jurisdictions, bi-lingual ballots are required. Now, in order to VOTE, one must be a citizen. But if someone becomes a citizen of the United States WITHOUT learning the language, THEY are not required to speak English - but it's is demanded that WE provide translators for them. So don't tell me a small minority isn't DEMANDING special treatment, and getting it.

And as for Obama "demanding" that we learn another language, I don't believe I said that. In fact, I think I noted that I am actually in favor of having our students learn a second language, "if only for the challenge."

But you know what? If his "recommendation" makes it into a politically correct public school curriculum, I'd almost guarantee it will be "mandatory" in no time. Did you know the word "mandatory" and "demand" come from the same Latin word ("mandare" - to command)?

Guess that wasn't an issue that came up during any of his 143 days in the U.S. Senate, huh?

Actually, if I recall, even when I was in  high school back in the 1960s, we were required to take at least one year of a foreign language. Our choices were French, Spanish or German.

Actually, I believe most anthropologists believe our Native American population is of Asian, not African, descent. The Afro-centrists probably disagree, but that would be no surprise.

I don't think anybody objects if any American wants to learn a second language, Guest. What many of us object to is that there is a mindset that says WE should learn to speak SPANISH to accomodate our illegal immigrant guests, rather than their having to learn English (the predominant language) to get along with us.

And being called "racist" over every opinion we might have regarding those who violate our immigration laws with impunity is wearing pretty thin. Such allegations cheapen the real meaning of the word "racist" to the point that, to many people, post like yours are not even worthy of serious review.

Now, whether I'm racist or not has nothing to do with my intelligence level or my education, Guest. I am not "ignorant" and neither are the majority of the people on this particular blog.

You, on the other hand, are a closed-minded bigot with a head full of mush - and I won't even call it LIBERAL mush because that would be insulting to all the thinking, rational liberals we have here.

I do hope you're just passing through, because with your low, insulting opinion of all of us here - an opinion you reached apparently without knowing any of us - I have certainly developed a strong prejudice against you - regardless or your race, national origin, gender, religion or sexual preference.
