The point is that Bryant is just a party line bobble head thats been about as effective in Columbia as a retarded quadriplegic in a vegetative state. Since it's clear that Bryant either doesn't know how to do anything, or just doesn't want to do anything, lets put someone else in Columbia who at least might try something (and to think I actually voted for him last time, what a disappointment). Hell the only thing Bryant has learned to do since being elected is ride around on the coattails of others. Positive change is voting for anyone but Bryant.

Actually, Bryant is only one of a few that supports spending less and returning more money to the taxpayers. The majorities of both parties in both chambers support spending almost everything that makes it to Columbia, and, as the list shows, they spend it on political favors. So, the only party line Bryant totes is the leave your money in your wallet party.
You indeed should be disappointed with your vote for Bryant inasmuch as you're happy with Columbia taking your money and sending it to frog jump festivals and cultural centers instead of buying school buses or paying for correctional officers. Bear in mind however, that if you send Meadors to Columbia nothing will change. Columbia will simply keep taking money out of your pocket, and now your senator will be voting for it.
Good luck.

No Private-Taylor . . .

That is your ASSumption. There is not a relationship between "pork" and Meadors. There IS a relationship between "taking away health care choices from the individual" and Bryant.

So what your saying is that since he clearly doesn't know what actually needs financial help in this state, he'll just vote against everything.....

Not at all. Bryant has voted to send hundreds of millions of dollars from the state budget to our roads. The porkers won. Bryant has offered amendments to reduce the cost of medicaid. The special interests won out. Bryant, most importantly, has voted to send hundreds of millions of dollars back to the taxpayers, the folks that earned the money in the first place. The porkers won again. So, it really boils down to whom you believe the money belongs to. Vote against Bryant if you support the status quo mentality that the money belongs to the legislature to dole out to its favorites. Vote for Bryant if you ever want to see your money either go true state needs, i.e. roads, prisons, etc or ever, ever back into your pocket

Let's look more closely at private-taylor's assertions about Bryant.

"Bryant has voted to send hundreds of millions of dollars from the state budget to our roads."

The questions I have about this statement are pretty simple:
1.) Was he funding state roads and bridges or county roads and bridges?
2.) Could someone from say, Horry County, argue that providing hundreds of millions of dollars for "our roads" is simple pork for Anderson and not Horry?
3.) How is pork any better if its is brought home by a DIFFERENT member of the Anderson County Legislative Delegation? It all comes from the same pig, afterall.
4.) Isn't pork just an unfriendly term for "constituent service?"

"Bryant, most importantly, has voted to send hundreds of millions of dollars back to the taxpayers . . ."

Still more simple, logical questions here folks:
1.) Above, we can see, according to private-taylor, that Bryant SPENT hundreds of millions of dollars on "our roads," yet "our roads" remain a mess. I'd like to know where that money went - anyone else?
2.) Bryant is for good roads, yes?
3.) The money he voted for, according to you private-taylor, was hundreds of millions of dollars, correct?
4.) Private-taylor, your above quote shows where that same funding, aka "hundreds of millions of dollars," was VOTED DOWN by Bryant in an effort to "send hundreds of millions of dollars back to the taxpayer" . . . SO HOW WAS HE FUNDING THE ROADS, HMMMM?

What this REALLY boils down to is this:

We've had four years of Dudley-Do-Nothing in the SC Senate as our Senator. What he has failed to learn in those four years is this: You have to go with the flow until you develop CREDIBILITY. As much as people say they abhor pork, I've yet to meet a person that would say "don't pave that road" or "that dangerous intersection does not need a traffic signal."

It's a little thing called constituent service - something that Dudley-Do-Nothing failed to discover in his four years in office.

I would call for a vote of no confidence . . . if I could.

Just hang on Rick Driver, Charles Crowe, Rodney Sanders, Tom Clark, Bennie Sue West and Rick Freesomething will be bringing "recall votes" to Anderson County via the State legislature. Let them dream on. :=0

That is also the same crowd that is pushing for closed primaries here in SC - a move that would serve to cut the Republican Party off at the knees . . . OOPS . . . did I just say that OUT LOUD?

Understand the demographics of this state before you make a move that would bring about your own demise. Oh, and the state is more PURPLE than RED these days . . .

. . . poorly played game of checkers . . .

That debate revolves around this question. Party primaries are:
1-General Elections in June for whoever or
2-the nomination process for the political party
Republican activists have been split on this isssue, yet at the last meeting of the Anderson County Republican Party, there was a resolution that passed unanimously from voting members of the executive committee calling for closed primaries.

I'd like to hear from any Democrat activist. What do ya'll think?

IMO South Carolina needs to open up all elections to all voters with all the candidates of both parties on each ballot or make the County elections non partisan like the City elections. To not do this is an infringment on voter's rights.

Okay, do we WANT a two-party system in South Carolina, or is everybody just happy as a pig in mud to go to a one-party system? If you want a two-party system, then party primaries to select candidates for the general election is a part of it.

On the county level, though - at least as far as County Council, Sheriff, Treasurer, Auditor, etc. - I actually have long been in favor of non-partisan elections, just as they have for the school boards. Once you get to the state level (State Senator, State Representative, Governor, etc.) it starts to make a big difference.

And as far as  party primaries being "an infringement on voters' rights" Petunia, how to you figure that? If you ren't a REPUBLICAN, why do you care who the Republican candidate is? If you aren't a Democrat, why do you care who the DEMOCRAT candidate is? THOSE ARE PARTY PRIMARIES, not elections.

Petunia,

That basically mitigates the need for a primary all together. To use a basketball analogy, and following the logic, March Madness should happen on one night, all 65 teams, same court, same time.

I'm not saying it wouldn't be interesting, but really . . . LOL. :)

JD,

Depending on the outcome of this Presidential Election the two party system may already in the last gasps of viability.

Bryant never voted so that money would pay for paving in Anderson County. He was in favor of letting the Governor have the authority to spend the money as he (the Governor) saw fit and voted accordingly. We all know what a mistake that would have been. Cry

It's a mistake to let the Governor of South Carolina, who is elected by a majority of the voters of the state, have a say in how taxpayer money is being spent? Oh, come on, Petunia.

I'll bet you were one of those screaming LOUDEST when Jim Hodges wanted to throw more money at education and the General Assembly was blocking him at every turn. I mean, heaven help us that the GOVERNOR'S priorities weren't respected. Wink

By the way, the GOVERNOR does not "have the authority to spend ... money as he (sees) fit." The Governor can only spend money as authorized by the General Assembly - which should, regardless of his party, at least show him some respect and try to work with him on his priorities..
