MANDATE: For Conservative Government

Today, the people of district 1 (like those in District 3, 4, and 5 two weeks ago) spoke with a loud voice that we want our government back. Anderson District 1 is known more than not as the "city" seat on county council. It is also considered by many to be the least conservative next to district 2. Today, even this district has said "we have had enough".

We have had enough of the "good ole boy" politics as usual. We have had enough of the wasteful spending and over taxation. We have had enough of the arrogance. We have had enough.

The Anderson County Republican Party finally took charge of their party and exposed a democrat in hiding. We wanted our party back. We wanted our conservative values back. We wanted our party to start being the "conservative" party once again. We finally did what we should have done years ago. We have taken back our party.

Folks this is a mandate of epic proportions. I predicted that Bob Waldrep would win 54-46. I had no idea that it would be 56-43.

It is quite obvious now, that the voters were "snowed" by Mr. MacKay's conservative talk. When he was exposed as someone who voted for democrats, and gave money to no other party other than democrats, the tide changed. Bob Waldrep's mail pieces were not attack pieces they informed the electorate of Mr. MacKay's leanings.

SSHM, John Cleese your time is up. Your ship has sailed. Your time for gloating isn't going to be happen.

As I have said before, it is ok to be a democrat, but be a democrat. Don't be something that you are not. You will always be found out.

I'm out. Never to post again.

What does defeat taste like to a turd? You always have another pus filled sore to squeeze, Hankey, no matter what. It isn't easy tobe a good loser, and even harder to be a good winner. But you are simulatenously neither, anbd that is damn near impossible. But you're still a turd. And turds end up on the bottom of people's shoes.

This is absolutely incredible. I really thought that Bob wasn't going to pull it out. Do you really know how big this is? Bob lost by what 180 votes in the primary. He won by 450 votes in the run-off. Brooks Brown got a total of 220 votes. What does all this mean. It means that a lot of people that voted for MacKay did one of two things. They either stayed home, or they changed their vote. Obviously, the Obama, Hillary piece hit the mark.

Some stayed home, but I bet a lot changed their vote. Good job Republicans and the Republican party.

This also means that there is a 5-2 vote for conservative government in Anderson county. While many thought if MacKay won, JRP could buy one vote. But I can tell you MCW, Bob W., Eddie M., and Tom A., cannot be bought. I bet that Tommy D. can't either. That leaves just 2 water toters for JRP. That is a very, very bad place to be.

Democrats and liberals be assured that Gracie will handle her competition easily in the fall. But it won't really make much difference.

Have a great day. I sure am.

Amy, I was talking about YOUR MAN, Howdy Doody!Haven't youever seen him whenhe's sitting up their watching the stopwatch so he can holler, "Time, Mr. Chairman!" He looks just like Howdy Doody, especially when his arm jerks up to vote. And you're right. It is a sad, sad testimony to his leadership. Billy went into a snit the day Bob Waldrep beat him for the Chairmanship of the Council, and Billy pouted and refused to accept a nomination as vice chairman. He never did come out of that snit, and it cost him his seat and justabout every shred of political capital he had. And that too is sad. But it is true.

Now, it is time for the Anderson County Republican Party to censure South Carolina Senator Kevin Bryant. He has been working on this “take over” behind the scenes even while in office while hiding behind “transparency”. Can he support local candidates as a State Senator? Methinks not. Methinks there are laws being broken here. Wake up Andersonians!! WOOOOOO!

This isn't just a victory for conservatives, just so you know.

Democrats had no one to vote for, so they had to choose between two Republicans in this primary. Yes -- GASP!!! -- Democrats are often pressed to vote in GOP primaries in this part of the world. The lack of a Democratic candidate in District 1 doesn't mean the district lacks any Democratic voters -- and I'm almost certain they didn't all just stay home. Democrats have a right -- when presented with no candidates -- to weigh in on who will represent them.

And don't assume, either, that MacKay's votes in District 1 were dominated by Democrats crossing over to the GOP side to keep Preston -- the king Democrat of Anderson County -- in power. MacKay's support base was more about maintaining the status quo and keeping the people in power who were drinking the Preston Kool-Aid of inside deals and favors. Ron Wilson got his Conferderate convention and Dan Cooper got his daddy's park. They are both big Republicans, of course, and close associates of Preston's. Heck, Cordes Seabrooks, a long-standing conservative businessman, sent out multiple e-mails urging his friends and associates to vote for MacKay.

Just so you know, I'm a District 5 Democrat and stayed away from Michael Thompson, the so-called "progressive" Preston candidate, because he lacked the intellect and courage to ask tough questions of the administration. I would expect no less of anyone -- regardless of their party -- who claims to represent the people. So I voted for Tommy Dunn.

Somehow I just don't buy into the benevolent dictator theory of county government that Preston seems to espouse.

So, at the risk of sounding melodramatic, I consider Waldrep's victory a victory for democracy -- something that transcends party. Americans -- period -- want open government, and I like to think the people of District 1 saw in Waldrep a man determined to fight for that.

Politics often makes odd bed-fellows, my friends, and I can say that Rick Driver and company started to make a lot of sense to me in recent years -- at least on local issues. In my opinion, local politics isn't an appropriate realm for party politics anyway. Look at how the City Council dropped party affiliations. I'm just grateful that District 1 produced two formidable candidates with very distinctive differences. And those differences weren't over the GOP pet issues of abortion and gay marriage. They were over meaningful local issues: economic development, open and honest government, efficiency in government, etc.

Don't forget: Waldrep himself wore the Democratic badge for a time. So does declaring this a "conservative" victory really make sense? Let's keep our fingers crossed that the incoming council has that courage and intellect so lacking in the old crew necessary to confront Preston on tough, time-consuming issues.

I will sleep happy tonight.

So your position is that a hired adminsitrator can be openly involved in recruiting and financing challengers to seated incumbents and no law is broken, but if a state Senator is in any way involved, then Wooooo!Get your brain out of that figure four and start using it man.

Unfortunately many good citizens of Anderson County are asleep. That's how we get state representatives like Bryant and Bowen, among others.

I hope you enjoyed your sleep last night. Going forward, be afraid, be very afraid. Rick Driver is sooo afraid of the so called "victory" that he is running from it on the air. He's already trying to spread the dirty deeds among "the many" so when it all crashes, he'll claim it was "the people." What a sham!
