please share with us the $25,000,000 in cuts that you tell us Waldrop has found, since he apparently is too scared to do so himself..

just remeber, last time cindi nd dan and stan and nan got up and proudly bragged of finding $5,000,000 in cuts..

that would have put them in jail if they had done so, because of their ineptitude and total ignorance of the law (like totally eliminating mandated functions of goverment)

Please PN! They were having so much fun and then you have to come in and call BS on them. Their whole campaign is a hate driven seige on Joey Preston. If they succeed in taking him out next year, a resulting vacuum in their overall political platform will cause them to implode on themselves.

Please show me where I said that I knew where the cuts could be made. I said that he said that there was enough room in the budget for funding salary increases etc without raising taxes. I am not a big fan of Waldrup, I do not know the guy personally. I preferred Mr Crowder over Mr Waldrup last election. Unfortunately our other choice this year is not very good.
My thing is fairness. Mr MacKay said that Mr Waldrup voted against those items and I simply pointed out that he was against the $25,0000,000 increase in the budget not those specific items.
By the way the $25,000,000 is increased tax money that us taxpayers have to pay.DO you understand that?

In economic times like we are in now our leaders should be trying to find ways to cut taxes not raise them. I could understand if you were moaning and groaning about him wanting to cut the present budget by $25,000,000 but he is only trying to stop the $25,000,000 increase.

And quite frankly I have never seen a budget that is as high as this counties budget that a prudent conservative could not find at least $25,000,000 that could be cut. Not everyone would be happy but it could be done.
Especially since over the last few years the budget for the most part has been rubberstamped by most of the councilpeople. Mr Preston(or most anyone in his position) loads up a proposed budget expecting some cuts. The problem is when he loads it up and the council OK's it without the cuts.

Im tell you what , you pay me Mr Prestons salary for two months and let me study the budget and I guarantee you I could find the cuts.

you are saying that 20% of the budget (more or less) could be cut without any affect on critical services?

Remember..cindi thought $5,000,000 was easy...and that was only about 5% of that budget.

Also, since you are willing to accept waldreps claim that he could find the money in the existing budget...then you are in essence syaing that you believe that statement to be true..so given that..then yes, you shoudl show where it is coming from..or at least ( as any concerned citizen would do)..ask him to show you..

after all..you would hate to find out that, Like cindi, he had eliminated a department that you were counting on being there...now wouldnt you?

Come Palmetto-native! You are presuming these Bob Waldrep supporters are about reducing taxes and fiscal responsibility instead of a power grab. Waldrep, and especially the Cindy Wilson/hate radio Rick Driver crowd are all about the power. They don't give two flips about your taxes. That's just political talk.

PN, There is a difference in cutting the budget 20% (more or less) and stopping a 20% increase (more or less)in the budget. Keep in mind we operated last year WITHOUT the $25,000,000 increase that is in this years budget. I guarantee you if the council had told Mr Preston to go back and find a way to give the employees a cost of living raise without raising the budget he could have done so. Again some people would not be happy about things that were cut but it could be done.

Mr MacKAy even said on the George Duckworth show that there were ways to cut the budget. He mentioned "controlled" spending and working with different businesses to give the county bulk rate discounts. I will give him credit, at least he has recoginized that there needs to be cuts and is thinking about how to do it (unless is is just political rhetoric).
If a conservative business person had time to study the budget, I am sure that employees could get raises without a $25,000,000 increase. Again I did not say CUT last years budget $25,000,000, I said you could not have the $25,000,000 increase and still give employees raises. So if we are talking about last years budget $25,000,000 probably could not be cut, but if you are talking about next years budget that was just passed then yes it could be cut 20% and still give raises.
Let me ask you, are you OK with a 20% increase in the budget in a recession year? If so I would not want you running a business of mine.

But the point is this..

Waldrop said he could find the money necessary for the increases "in the existing budget"..which means cutting current spending by the same amount..

Its not just pay raises..its also increases in insurance..increases in fuel..increases in utilities..increases in everything else..heck, the small businessman poster child of the Anderson right wing has raised the prices he charges twice in two months...so its not just "tax and spend liberalism" at work.. do you not want him to run your business too?

so again I ask..where does he find that amount of money to cut? Talk is cheap and what I hear is nothing more than what appears to me as being pandered too.
