Waldrep is an incumbent . . .
Bryant is an incumbent . . .
Before you point to the far end of the desk of County Council, let me remind you that the ethics investigation is on-going. We'll see if she gets to keep her seat . . . oops!
. . . political accumen of a DEAD SEA TURTLE . . .

No Marge, it's called an anti-Democrat movement, and it's the kind of pruging that's good for body and soul.
I don't see your current elections for Council as anti-incumbent (incumbents Cindy Wilson and Ron Wilson won, you know, and if Gracie Floyd had been up for re-election this time, she would have won, too) or anti-Democrat (they have their own slate of candidates.) I see it as a referendum on Joey Preston, and based on the vote earlier this week for a complete forensic audit, I'd say JP has lost regardless of how the Waldrep-MacKay runoff turns out.
Sorry, folks. It seems that a lot of voters this year want their elected officials and hired hands to do more than just pay lip service to the concept of openness and honesty in local government. Joey Preston may well survive, but he is certainly going to have to change his attitude toward the people he serves.
Take a step back and look at elections ACROSS THE STATE. There was a concerted anti-incumbent movement without a central theme. There was success with the anti-incumbent movement. but it was not a total victory (see also, your examples of C. Wilson [still waiting to see if she gets to keep the seat - pesky ethics charges] and R. Wilson).
Now, as for this nonsense about "open government"
Open government is one of those "nice, feel-good" terms used to unify the electorate. It's an issue thats simple, most, if not everyone can agree on, and can be boiled down into super-simple terms to make it easy to speak to.
Reality is something entirely different.
Remember when Senator Kevin "I still need to go to State Senator Finishing School" Bryant got on the bandwagon of open government? When he went so far as to recruit Richard Eckstrom and demonstrat that this (open government/website/report the expenditures) would be free?
Oh wait . . . it's not free . . . (as stated by the Comptroller General's Office)
Oh wait . . . it only lists expenses . . . no explanations (e.g. - American Express - $1000)
Oh wait . . . open government is just political grandstanding without anything to stand on.
Sure JD, people agree in CONCEPT to the idea of open government. However, when the individual selling the proverbial can of open government is nothing more than ANOTHER snake-oil salesman . . . well, you have to wonder.

It did win the day, in Anderson. Cindy campaigned on it, Eddie Moore campaigned on it, Tommy Dunn Campaigned on it, Tom Allen campaigned on it. That's 4-0. I think it won.
Now McAbee campaigned on it, but no one believed him. That's why he got 39% of the vote. That's a whopping 61% vote against Bill McAbee. He should be proud. He obviously had a great campaign manager. He should have stuck with McCarty.
First of all, Waldrep was elected to the National Convention at the district level, not state. You have your facts wrong. Mary McAbee ran at both conventions and lost very badly.
The party is as strong if not stronger than it has ever been. Lee Rogers is doing an excellent job. Senator Bryant is working hard for families and the taxpayer in columbia. I can't think of a more principled conservative. He went to Columbia and did exactly what he said he would do.
Now, let's look at the Independent Mail. They have run a story about Raymond MacKay being a democrat for 3 straight days. Bonnie Williams doesn't know politics, and she certainly doesn't know Republican politics. Remember in 2004, they lost over 60% of their endorsements. The ones they won were way to easy to pick.
You and your ILK lost because you have lost touch with the voters in Anderson county. People are tired of elected officials spending their money like drunken sailors (apologies to all drunken sailors, at least they spend their own money).
Economic Development obvious was not as big an issue as you wanted people to believe. Continuity and reigning in spending was much more prominent issues.
Amy, Bill, Mary whoever you are go back in your hole. And go get the rest of your signs. You lost. How embarrassing.
Here's something open--the door. There are several other parties out there. Choose one and take your leave. If the Republican party dies by the exit of "you and your ILK" then you'll be around to reconstruct the ashes in your own vision. If not, you'll save yourself further torture--unless you like that kind of thing.
Daaaamn. Punch to da face.
We'll talk again early next year.
One of these days you might actually have a real discussion with me. One that involves facts, figures, and something other than just your opinion. Opinion with facts is a powerful thing. Just your opinion makes you like everyone else . . .
. . . and we all know what opinions are like . . . and that everybody has one too.
Here - since you HINTED at wanting to talk about the party, let me clue you in on the dynamics of the party. If you run off those that donate to the party (hint-hint, the ultra-conservatives you are surrounding yourself with DON'T GIVE nor do they FUNDRAISE), what will you do to raise money, hmmm?
Going to have Suzie Creamcheese bake a cake and sell it?
Your moderates and not-so-conservatives give to the party and are the main fundraisers within the party. Alienate them and you'll go broke in no time flat. Oh wait . . . you ARE.
STUPID.

Bad picture . . .
This one is much better :)

Whoa, SSHM. Timeout here.
Are you saying you're disappointed because you just found out conservative principles can't be BOUGHT, or are you disappointed that you've found out YOU can't afford 'em?
Clarify, please.
I am disappointed in the fact that the "open tent" party has now taken a hard right . . . and is about 2-3 miles beyond G. Gordon Liddy conservative. For some time the state and national Republican party has been the open party, focused on economic principles, jobs, and progress. Apparently, this is no longer the case. Conservative and moderate Republicans are being shown the door in what major-taylor has called a purge (I think I've heard that term somewhere before from some German regime - but I digress).
As for your misinterpretation, I'm shocked, no, SHOCKED you will/are supporting both Waldrep and Wilson.
I thought you were a pro-growth progressive over there in Pickens.
Oh wait . . . thats right too, Mr. "I don't have a dog in this fight." You cross the border, throw support at the nutjobs, anti-progressives, and ultra-conservatives here in hopes of slowing growth and development. As I've said before - aiding Pickens County in getting that leg up on us here in Anderson.
If you want to be that way . . . then fine. I hope your County Government is over-run with folks from Upstate Forever. Have fun crawling towards prosperity.

SSHM,
You should know by now that JD doesn't have a problem throwing in with a bunch of racist, bigoted, anti-intellectual, 6th grade educated, good 'ole boys like the Cindy Wilson crowd.
JD and the Cindy Wilson crowd are just nuts who enjoy bringing people down, spreading nasty rumors, and destroying people's families.
How else do you explain their continued support for people who make false 911 calls, make harassing calls to the families of Joey Preston and his employees, write harassing letters to council members with opposing viewpoints, send private information about them to the newspaper, and so on.
I wouldn't quite go THAT far Andrew, but I would stand behind the assertion that JD is a bit of a chameleon. Pro-growth and development in Pickens and anti-growth and anti-development in Anderson.
A leopard can not change it's spots . . . well . . . it sure can try anyway.

Nice, Andrew, very nice, coming from someone who doesn't hesitate to throw in with a bunch of Islamist, America hating, anti-military liberal freaks who don't have a clue about how the American economy works.
Now, do we want to discuss local issues, or do we want to lie about each other? I'll play any game you want to play, Andrew, but let me remind you that I do have more experience.
Now, back to SSHM. I haven't said I support either Bob Waldrep or Cindy Wilson, and it wouldn't matter if I did. I don't vote over there. My comment had nothing to do with a specific candidate, in fact. It was just a response to your comment about withholding contributions to a party with whom you disagree. And I say you have every right to do so.
But the implication there is, if YOU give them money, that guarantees they will vote YOUR way when issues come up. Bought and paid for, see? I give money to candidates that I think will vote my way most of the time (Republicans) or a candidate who favors my position on a CRITICAL ISSUE (as in Joe Lieberman, who votes with the liberals 90 percent of the time but has been steadfast in his support of the War on Terror.)
And now, back to Andrew. Your comment indicates that you think anybody who does support Cindy Wilson or Bob Waldrep is a "racist, bigoted, anti-intellectual, 6th-graded educated good ol' boy." Congratulations, my sarcastic, arrogant, thinks-he-s-always-right little idiot friend. You've just insulted 60 percent of the people in CWs district and more than half the people in Anderson County.
And you wonder why you aren't taken seriously?
JD, I'm not always right, but I sometimes am.
The type of person that supports CW thinks my type is ALWAYS wrong... Thats what pisses me off :)
They think anybody who doesn't have a knee-jerk reaction and doesn't think Mexicans are the scourge of the earth are a bunch of Islamist loving liberals...
Funny how your response was the exact same thing I get from arch-nazi KKK grandmaster Charles Crow.
And, SSHM, I'm pro-growth and pro-development for both Anderson and Pickens counties - the entire Upstate and state in fact.
What I am tired of - and I referenced this in my rant the night of last week's primary - is the mindset that seems to be pervasive on BOTH sides of the political aisle that certain people shouldn't be allowed to participate in the American politcal system. Those on the left want to drive all things religious out of the public forum, while those on the right are constantly trying to silence critics of anything conservative.
I think everybody has a right to an opinion, everybody has a right to vote, and everybody has a right to participate in the process without being demeaned by the other side. We should discuss the issues, debate the solutions, and make informed choices. Instead, we have people like Anderw Hammett, who seems to be intelligent, but immediately went right to the gutter in response to my post.
Both sides need to get out of that gutter and stop the namecalling. BOTH SIDES. Do you two understand, or shall I type slowly? (And, SSHM, in fairness to you, you usually DON'T stoop to Hammet's lows, although you're quite capable of doing so.)
That the Anderson County political process has become something of a joke is a function of the fact that so many people who participate vocally in that process are jokes. THE IDEA IS TO REACH A CONSENSUS that will allow you to get something accomplished, not to piss off the opponents to the point they wouldn't work for you even if you DO occasionally have a good idea.
