Negative mailers, party politics, Rick Driver debate challenge??? What's up with all this apparent desperation. The runoff next Tuesday is about who will best represent District #1 on the County Council, not who supported Barry Goldwater in 1964. For God's sake, give it a rest. And why do we need more debates? It has been a long political season. There have been debates ad nauseum. The runoff is about getting your people out. The issues and candidate positions are well documented. Unfortunately, the Waldrep campaign does not have anything positive to show for his 18 months on Council, so they are desperately trying to divert attention away from the real issues by focusing on personal attacks and paritisanship. You expect that kind of junk out of the WAIM radio crowd, but come on Bob show some integrity and class. Bob you dealt this hand, the pot is right, everybody just needs to lay down their cards. The cards speak for themselves.
Desperate in District #1
Dude, this is a republican primary. It is supposed to be partisan. That is why it is a republican primary. The general election is where these two need to face off. Not a Republican primary. Raymond MacKay is a democrat! He votes in democratic primaries, he donates money to democrats, what more evidence do you need.
This type of junk didn't work for Chuck Allen when he ran as a republican and it won't work for Raymond MacKay. BTW, Raymond gave Chuck Allen money against Brian White when chuck ran as a democrat.
Above all this is a County Council race. It is about the future of Anderson County and who can best represent the district that is the standard bearer for all of Anderson County. I've attended literally hundreds of council meetings and not once has party ever been a factor, except maybe when Republican bullies Dan Harvell and Charles Crowe issued a political death warrant to Bill Dees a few years back.
Party matters in a primary. If Raymond wants this seat then he needs to join the ranks of Obama, Gracie, and Hillary Clinton.
Higher taxes, bigger government is what Raymond MacKay voted for in January. I think he will do it again if elected.
Typically, one votes the beliefs of one's party affiliation. That is why it matters in a county council race. Anderson doesn't need more taxes (the Democratic belief). We need less spending & smaller governmnet (the Republican beliefs). If you want a non-partisan race, run for City Council. You can't turn County Council into a non-partisan race. It wasn't one on June 10th and it won't be one on June 24th.
You're full of crap with your generalizations about parties and taxes. Come out from behind those rocks (I mean party labels) and debate the COUNTY COUNCIL issues at hand. For starters: economic development, civility, and consensus building. Or look at the embarrassing political stunts by the incumbent. Remember the infamous Finance department raid with Cindy Wilson and Channel 7. He is to Anderson County what Tony Trout is to Greenville County. The red, white and blue sign says it all: "It's time for a Change".
Ummm . . . talk about generalizations. I suppose you've never heard of the Blue Dogs or the Boll Weevils.
Boll Weevils??
Oh ... those were those folks, you know, Conservative Democrats that helped Reagan (aka Great Communicator) get his legislative agenda through Congress. Specifically, these Democrats supported:
1.) Voted in favor of tax cuts
2.) Increases in military spending
3.) Deregulation
Understand politics if you intend on spouting off about it.

Funny, funny, funny. If a liberal democrat attacks a Republican candidate with negative advertising, it's OK with them. But let a Republican attack a democrat and it's foul, not fair, slander, hatred, racists, un-American.
Funny, funny, funny. Go Mr. Waldrep. The honest people are with you.

I'm not as old as you are and don't quote books from the 1960s, but I can stick to "my party's" ideals. True conservatism doesn't compromise.
I think I've just about figured out who you are... Didn't your parents teach you how to be a good loser??
Let's put this to rest.
If Raymond MacKay is a lifelong Republican, have him produce evidence that he has given money to a republican. Have him produce evidence that he has voted in a Republican primary. Have him provide evidence that he has been supportive of the local, state, or national republican party.
It should be simple to produce a sign in sheet, a membership card, a candidate disclosure, something to prove he has supported republicans. There is proof to the contrary, he says he is a livelong republican.
MR. MACKAY, PROVE IT!
"Infamous Finance Department Raid????" This "raid" was only necessary when the sanctimonius County Administrator refused to provide the information. Bob Waldrep tried to instill some civility last year - - however, because he asked questions he was labeled as a CAVE person. Three of the other council members, who were truly the uncivil members of council, were shown the door last week. The voters spoke. I only hope the voters in District 1 support Bob Waldrep. There should be concern for Mackay's rumored ties to the Administrator - we've had enough of that with the current council. We need a council who will ask the hard questions without fear of being labeled and who will not be chastised by the other Council Members for asking these questions. Bob Waldrep has shown he isn't afraid to ask the questions. Give him a chance to work with a Council who hopefully will be interested in Anderson County rather than petty battles. Raymond Mackay's annoying pop up ads on the Independent website are enough for me to decide to vote against him. I'm tired of seeing him pop up every time I go onto the website.
District 1 and the entire county of Anderson do not want another RubberStamp-BowTie Democrat sitting on council. Mr. Mackay made a big first splash when he hit the water but he is sinking faster than Bill McAbee did and Mr. Waldrep will have the vote of all concerned honest citizens in his district. I hope the new council can get a new ordinance passed that will prohibit trashing neighborhoods and stop sign areas with thousands of signs. Mr. Mackay, like McAbee, R. Wilson, and Thompson, think their trashy signs mean more votes. Tell him Michael and Billy and Larry about signs.
Trashy, funny, Democrat Raymond Rubber-Stamp Mackay. Listen, I hear Barack Hussein Obama calling you Raymond. Go to him...and stay.
MacKay makes his living suing the Anderson Hospital, other hospitals and Doctors.
Man, this thread denigrated faster than the original one. I highly doubt that there is one single person in District 1 who does not already know who they will vote for.
Sounds more like Preston and his Pawns are desparate. They just got whacked in Districts 3, 4, and 5. The only things that have been progressive in Anderson County have been Preston's salary, credit card use, and his minions salaries. These things have just progressed upward.
So if an elected official seeks access to financial records of the county, by requesting them through proper channels, then waits from september till February to get an appointment to see those records, he is staging an infamous raid when he keeps the appointment? No elected official should have to wait morethan two business days to see any damn record of the county thattheywant. Joey Preston has squandered hundreds of tousands of dollars and virtually all of his miniscule cerdibility in his efforts to keep those in authority from learning the truth about his administration and its performance. And fools like you have supported him every step of the way. And you dare claim to serve anderson county and to care about its future?
We had change in Districts 3, 4 and 5. We don't need change in District 1.
Dude, you do know Steely Dan from Barely Manenough don't you?
plumbbob . . . the SC Supreme Court disagrees with you. In fact, if you go over "JRP vs MCW," you will see where an elected official does NOT have a "fast track" to public records, ergo, they are not any more special than you or I.

Please Freddie . . . finish what you started. Pitch the rest of council, or the rest that you can. If you are really for change, there must be a change in District 1. You don't WANT change in District 1. We NEED change in District 1.
