Negative Campaigning

This has been one of the most disgusting political primary seasons in local history. Sure, people gained seats. But in the end, nobody wins from this kind of acrimonious campaigning that took place. Folks our nation's at war, our economy's in the tank and rather than unifying in adversity as previous generations of American's did, we here in Anderson County choose to focus on kicking each other's butts. We would be well served to reject those who continue with negative campaigning and repeated character assassinations. There's plenty of room for the negative curmudgeons in the local coffee shops and on morning call-in radio shows. Save for the run-off campaign between incumbent Bob Waldrep and challenger Raymond Mackay on June 24th, this sorry primary season is over. Let's begin today by holding our politicians to a higher standard. We'll all be the better for it.

JC,

Allow me to quote you from your role in Fawlty Towers:

"ARSE I have to put up with from you people. You ponce in here expecting to be waited on hand and foot, while I'm trying to run a hotel here. Have you any idea of how much there is to do? Do you ever think of that? Of course not, you're all too busy sticking your noses into every corner, poking around for things to complain about, aren't you? Well let me tell you something - this is exactly how Nazi Germany started. A lot of layabouts with nothing better to do than to cause trouble. Well I've had fifteen years of pandering to the likes of you, and I've had enough. I've had it. Come on, pack your bags and get out."

It's a shame we couldn't have had that on a billboard or something.

Carry on . . . this primary season should be over faster than an MP can call for a vote of no confidence.

Please be careful how you classify "negative campaigning". I, personally, like to know facts about a candidate. If the facts shed a negative light on that candidate, some are quick to throw the "negative campaign" card. Facts are facts and they need to be shared. When you file for office, your opinions and past actions are fair game. We all need to be informed.

It's not negative campaigning if you have cold-hard facts. Face it the facts are that Raymond MacKay has said he is a lifelong Republican. Yet he has consistently given money to only democrats! The last time he had an opportunity to vote in a Republican Primary (before he signed up to be a republican candidate) he voted for a tax and spend liberal, doctor suing, trial lawyer. Because he was a "homeboy". Give me a break!

If it quacks like a duck, acts like a duck, it must be a duck. You can substitute democrat for duck.

So lifelong . . .

Giving money to Billy O'Dell, Cordell Maddox, and Chuck Allen, who are all Republicans is what? Oh, it's all there at that link you provided. Nice gloss job there.

PS: Care to retract the lie about MacKay only contributing to Democrats? After all ... it IS your source.

MacKay makes his living suing Anderson Hospital and Doctors.

SSHM,

keep it up. It helped lose the election for your boy Willie Horton, and it will do the same for MacKay.

Everyone of those contributions were made when those three were democrats. I don't think Cordell has ever denounced his liberal leanings. Neither has Chuck. He just saw it as a way to possibly win. He was wrong. He only won once out of about 8 tries. You have to give him an "A" for effort, but an "F" for realizing what the electorate wants.

Jim Hodges was the top democrat in the state and Mr. MacKay handed him a fat $1,000.00 check. You cannot deny the fact that MacKay has supported more democrats with his money and his voting in recent years. What he did in the 70's, is well, in the 70's. This is now, and this is real and can be proven.

Talk is cheap. Proof is priceless. We have proof, he just talks.

No, SSHM, your statement is misleading. When MacKay donated to those individuals they were all Democrats.

Yawn . . . again . . . any real issues here?

Because what I see is someone supporting native Andersonians. O'Dell, Maddox, and Allen all have made significant contributions to Anderson over the years. Now you seek to saddle them as Dems and somehow not worthy of support? Much like the both of you accused me of not properly understanding the dynamics of District 7, I too shall accuse you of not understanding the politics of District 1.

Bob Waldrep is the second representative to District 7, he simply resides in District 1. Oh wait . . . who does that leave representing District 1?

Desperation of a desperate incumbent.

So now, it's ok to support a native Andersonian regardless of party affiliation??? Interesting. Nice try to divert the attention from the topic at hand. Can you find where MacKay supported a Republican candidate?? There are some fine ones that are "native Andersonians".(yourself excluded, of course)
